Yes, he's still at that stage of regression, where his good is outweighing his bad ......do we have an immediate replacement though?

May have have less time this year if Draper and Curtin take next steps. But he will play next year as well. Would be foolish to just think he is gone.

Daniel is built like one of those nuggety tractor like players, Sholl has arms like noodles. He's short and thin.
Have you really looked at Sholl's physique lately, the 2025/2026 Sholl is a far different specimen to the kid we drafted. He's 186cm and was 82 kg before the AFL stopped publishing weights last year and if anything he looks bigger this preseason. Size is not the problem.

I think there’s a fair bit of overrating (edit- or unrealistic expectations) of McAndrew going on around here. He was delisted by the Swans and none of the 18 clubs thought him worthy to even have him as a train on. All that has happened so far is that he’s surpassed ROB, who was garbage soon after signing an extension (surprise to all) and has had a rule change that directly impacts how he competes at centre bounce.

I hope McAndrew guns it up for us, but so far, he’s not beaten an AFL level ruck in a game for premiership points.

Did they? They effectively took it to the glue factory by scrapping it in 2013. Mind you, I can't remember why unless this was an AFLPA thing, seeing it wasn't doing too bad on the spectator front.
Wasn't it junked because if it aint for points...

You dont reckon ?? He wasn't just anonymous, he may as well not have been out there.

They cant possibly trust him after a performance like that.

Yup, his name is Max Michaelanney.

You forgot T Murray?

Not a silly option.

Cook potentially, he played there a bit in the 2nd half and looked good.

Playing Marsh there, until he conks out, is at least a strong investment in the future. I still have faith that Jones can be an AFL quality footballer. Reckon defence is his go where he is taken to the ball and he can then use his speed and strength to impact. I’d play him in Laird’s spot in a heartbeat. Marsh looks like he might be a difference maker, I’d be prioritising getting games into him.

"The bigger they are, the longer they (usually) take,"

Nobody would disagree, particularly the 18 clubs who would have looked at him and taken that into account when deciding he wasn’t worthy of a lifeline. I’m not saying they weren’t all wrong, just that some might need to temper expectations a tad.

From what I’ve been told, our wingmen aren’t meant to get the football, they sacrifice their game for the greater good by just running to certain places. You can’t judge a wingman by their stats.

Whilst that is true, we did see Nank get himself involved in the game yesterday, and Cook when he was pushed upheld.

As a rule though, we don't use our wingers. We got roughly 30 touches on average per game from Curtin and Cumming combined last year. A poor use of 2 potentially big weapons.

I think we would look much better without Laird.
We (fans) probably take his good stuff for granted and he did plenty of good things yesterday

However his errors were glaring, several under zero pressure, plus cost goals directly

Playing in front and bodied under the ball when the opposition is kicking with a howling gale... Does Nicks need to set up the drink bottles again but bring an electric fan?

The rookie errors our senior players make is absolutely criminal

Modern game is ball movement. Laird actively turns the ball over and doesn't help with ball movement because he looks for short option first.

Not sure we can carry him.

Sounds like Nank and Cook played against instructions. Obviously I’m being facetious, to support Cimming being good, the game where he had 10 touches in the first quarter was used and I’m pretty sure everyone was happy when Curtain had high 20s. I don’t recall anyone wondering whether we had suffered because he focussed on getting the pill instead of keeping shape.
