Was actually watching the game rather than posting every 5 seconds. I post 90% of the time during quarter time breaks or TV ads.

Maybe if you actually watched the games instead of posting every 5 seconds in the gameday thread you wouldn't get so much wrong.

I watched the game, that's how I knew Reilly has plenty of shanks and errors.

You just chose to stop at half time as it became too hard to defend Reilly.

Please define "plenty" with reference to the AFL stats.
And before you go on about the errors late in the game, please note that an error late in the game counts the same as an error early in the game. That would be 1.

Don't need to worry about Brent's errors late in the game as he only has 1 or 2 touches.

Yeah we had some luck - so did they - the goal from Hartigans HTB was a horrible decision and inconsistent with the interpretation all day.

They missed some easy ones - so did we - all evens out

I love it how 'some' boneheads continue to have a go at me fir not enjoying the win, yet still have to actually post the remark.

Why don't you just enjoy the win - unless you live vicariously through an Internet forum to get your endorphins flowing about.

Play on.

Ah, OK then. You may be right, I don't have quarter-by-quarter stats to hand.
- Let's return, then, to the definition of "plenty". Sorry I confused things with the second part of my post, let's refer to the first sentence. You know, the one you avoided :)

I've been thinking about this for a little while now and think it's relevent here.

How does Bigfooty enhance your enjoyment of the game?

Because we choose to support a football team for enjoyment but I find myself avoiding any matchday threads (even of other teams) because it seems like 90% frustration and negativity. Sure, we are hardly worldbeaters at the moment but there doesnt seem to be much recognition for the great bits and pieces players put in each match.

'Plenty' - very Liberal with the meaning.

Completely agree.

Ironic that you posted that in the match day thread, but you make a fair point.

If I could watch the game I wouldn't use the match-day thread either, but I had to stream the radio commentary over the internet, and the match day thread complements that do a reasonable degree.

Because people post with emotions about the negative things they see and the stand up and celebrate with enjoyment the positive things. One they have finished celebrating, the game as moved on and it's too late to post.

Its the same as being at the ground, the first time most people do is moan and groan about the mistakes and then clap, yell and scream about the positive things. You use a different part of your brain.

Haha, yes, good point. I used to be a frequent poster here (I had to kill off my habit because it was taking way too much of my time, I was turning in to that "but someone on the internet is wrong!" person) and it did enhance my enjoyment, because there were/are many people here who understand the game, and spend much time analysing the game and the players, and I would learn things from reading their posts, and I would look out for the thing they wrote about, when I was watching the game myself.

This is a good thing, and I still lurk now and then to read such things. I just have learned not to post so much, to avoid getting in to lengthy debates.

(If you look at my replies to alex above, you will see this tendency of mine re-emerging :p )

Tonight (here) is the first time I have read a game day thread, and I have read it all the way through. It was, as I said in an earlier post, like looking inside my own head during a game.

I wouldn't criticise the negative posters on this thread too much, because I think and shout those things myself when watching a game :D but it doesn't make for very illuminating reading for other people. Reading other people's "frustration and negativity" doesn't enhance my enjoyment of the game. But it is fun watching the tone change, sometimes with the same poster, throughout the game from "it's over, we've lost, we're crap" 10 minutes in, to "come on! Good work!" to "OMG we're going to give up a lead AGAIN".

Which, again, is like looking inside my own head - so I won't bag people too much for that :)

Great response by the champ! Oh, the pressure is rising here at Etihad! It's a cauldron!

What are you talking about?

The vision was of Tex at Glenelg oval and Dwayne said that was today. The vision ended and the camera went back to Dwayne and he corrected himself by saying Friday night.

Unless you are referring to something very different, we have our wires crossed.

I used to sit near people like that, at the games. (Except they never really got going with the positive stuff) I moved seats because they were spoiling my enjoyment of the game.

There's a limit to how much "moaning about mistakes" is reasonable (even though we all do it) before actually supporting and encouraging the team needs to kick in. Which is, I would think, what supporters are kind of supposed to do.

Heck, even the coaching staff, whose job it is to identify and correct mistakes, wouldn't moan and groan as much as some supporters do.

I used to post a fair bit too and liked your posts from way back (under another name). I find myself not posting so much for the same reason.
