Are we reading too much into the Dangerfield situation?

His 2008 season finished early when he was barred from playing for the Falcons in the finals because he had by then debuted in the AFL. He would have been quite match fit at the time he debuted from his regular Falcons games.

After that, though there was an extended off-season break during which he had to study for Year 12 exams. It seems to me that he might have put more effort into that and fell behind in his conditioning. If so, its hardly being irresponsible - as opposed to going surfing etc.

Craig has stated that he arrived for the start of training (later than everyone else and after his exams) in a less perfect physical condition than they had expected. Then he was on track to make that up when he suffered a hamstring stain followed by the whiplash from the taxi accident and had to be transferred to light training duties.

He simply isn't in the same condition as those being selected - Cooke, Petrenko, Otten etc all of whom have done a full pre-season and started in better shape than him.

Yes he played in Darwin but took a heavy knock and may well have been rested because of that as well.

At this stage I don't think its any big deal - he will come up to speed and when form permits he will be selected. Kite, Walker, Petrenko, Otten and to a much lesser extent Cook all have sound SANFL experience from last year playing against men that would also put them in front.

totally agree

in addition I do not believe Danger will pick up his bat and ball and go home...

still plenty of footy left in the year

Big Gazoongas is onto something, in that we're not getting the full story. Word I have (and you don't have to believe it), is that young Patty is not exactly in Craigy's good books at the moment. Nothing major or anything, just that they're making him work for his spot in the side.

I think you are right on the money. The club wants to make sure Danger doesn't think he is a walk up start without doing the work...and that's OK. But lets hope to god they don't completely shit him off and he then wants to head back to Melbourne, just because Craig wants to make a point.

The point I am trying to make here is that Danger is no less fit than some of the 2008 draftees already being played by their AFL club. But we have this knack of holding back our draftees and then coming up with waffle that they aren't fit.
A bloke with pace to burn and huge potential should be played regardless of age, especially in the NAB cup.

stabby, what did your contact in the club say about Danger? i think i remember you mentioning something, but i can't remember what it was.

Stabby might be able to get more from his contact, but from what I've heard fitness isn't really the issue, more so just the size of his head:eek: Last weekend he was serving time for a couple of off-field issues that needed improving on. I wouldn't read too much into it though, not a major issue I don't believe, I wouldn't be surprised if he's in calculations for round 1.

I'm not so sure it's just a point Craig wants to make, and who cares what other clubs are doing. We don't know that Danger is more fit than, say, Otten, Cook, Martin, Petrenko, Jacky, etc. Like it or not, we have a game plan that requires elite fitness to execute, which is probably why we try to recruit extremely fit players.

However, I certainly would like to see him played soon.

Actually, if my memory serves, he didn't say much at all, other than he was one of the main reasons that they changed training this year, because last year the preseason (ie the one going on at the time Danger was drafted) was too much for him and he basically carried an injury for the rest of the year from it. For this year though, mostly his comments on Danger are along the lines of "he'll make it" but not being super enthusiastic about it. The guy isn't very enthusiastic about much though. Even with Walker, he admitted Walker had lots of talent but spent more time talking about how he's a completely over-the-top character :D

Unless it was a disciplinary thing as one poster suggested, it was absolutely ilogical not to pick Dangerfield against Geelong.

With the number of interchange players it is rubbish to suggest that he's not fit enough.

Surely injury and fitness can't be argued by Neil Craig because he considered Dangerfield fit enough to be chosen against the IA in Darwin 2 weeks ago.

I hope King Craig thinks that he has made his point now and plays Dangerfield this week onwards.

I think we should care, think of the likes of Dale Thomas heaps of pace and talent and given an opportunity early on and hasn't looked back. Was he super fit in his first year, no, did he have a big body, no...but he was given the opportunity non the less. His enthusiasm was exceptional because he was given a chance.

Didn't Craigy say last week that Danger's attitude has been fabtastic

I hope King Craig ****s off so we can take this club upto the next level.

Hopefully Danger can get a game this week. There is probably more to gain by playing him, than by playing Thompson and Edwards who are already match fit, and we know what we are going to get from them. Come on Craigy, give Tys a week off to go fishing and give Danger a game!

The guy has obvious talent and should be given every opportunity in this NAB cup to gain valuable match time.

I'm looking forward to (and hoping) Schmidt, Moss and Danger getting some game time this week.

Part of the issue is that we will require someone to replace him - any suggestions ?

Terry Wallett may be available after this year.

Craig isn't going anywhere. But if he was I wouldn't mind Nathan Buckley. The more I hear from him the more I think he would be a very good coach.

And yes get Dangerfield out there, and give Sellar a few NAB games as well. Not a quarter here or there, but some real game time.

Only issue with Buckley would be Collingwood and pulling him out from under them, other option I would consider would be Robert Harvey:thumbsu:

What?

They've already started the club renovations.

Eventually you can only tolerate so many finals losses before some has to go well, look this person doesnt have the nouse to take the club to the ultimate goal, Craig doesnt have that nouse and has proven it time and time again, I mean geez the club isnt short of funds and can surround him with all the expertise in thw orld, but if you have a stubborn old mule who wont budge you might aswell have saved the money and not bothered, on Saturday night I was truely amazed at the amount of coaching support staff we have its astounding:eek:
