I can't see us winning this. In the last two years we've dropped off so much that there's no real reason to think we could compete with the top teams.

And yet we nearly beat a full strength West Coast side at home being ****** by the umpires in the third quarter?

My confidence may be misplaced however we can win and you certainly can win on your home deck.

We lost at home to West Coast two weeks ago from an impregnable position, who are far below their best. Not sure I'd be bragging about it. Once they turned up in the second half, we were crushed. Our competitiveness against Geelong is significantly overstated. If they had kicked straight, they smash us. We were never winning.

And that's our high watermark. Honourable losses.

We're not beating the top teams. We're back to where we were before 2016. It's like the progress we made in the 2017 season when we finally got some of these clubs didnt happen.

Are you actually watching games? Just wondering.

At some point it is going to click for 4 quarters. When? Who knows.

There's a difference playing catch up when it's against average teams that you should never be behind in the first place

If GWS lead by 5 goals at any stage, you wight as well pack up. Game will be over. You wont comeback from that kind of deficit. They are not Melbourne.

GWS can take the foot of the pedal once the game is killed, but they wont let you back in to win it.

Drugs Are Bad Mackay? INCOMMING!!!!!....in 5,4,3,2,........

But seriously, MacKay, you've done it again. Uncanny.

Surely he is not considered the next best player to come in. This truly shows the state of the AC list. No injuries and that's the best we have.

No injuries doesn't necessarily mean all players are at their peak fitness - some may be a bit sore and they think not able to run out a game as well as some others.

They rolled Geelong in Geelong. Probably the measuring stick of the competition.

They can turn it on when they want to. If they turn up. Thats the issue here tonight.

See my earlier post, where I pointed out that the 4 point win against Geelong was their only decent away win. The point I'm making is that we will beat them if we turn up, regardless of whether they turn up. I will put one caveat on that: if it turns into a massive shootout, we will probably lose.

Is it? That's not a guarantee.

He's not the best we have, it's just the coaching dept. have significant misplaced faith in him for whatever reason.

Thats contradictory.

If its a shootout it implies they turned up. It wont matter whether we turn up or not.

Our best chance to roll them is if we make it a tight congested contest thats low scoring.

My reasons for not winning is a bit deeper than them just being the better team, I am more worried abput our players recovering from the Darwin game. I expect us to be outscored in the 2nd half comfortably.

In terms of reputation in the AFL, that away win at Geelong especially against a team that would be ready for them, gives them weight of credibility.

So Greenwood playing SANFL

The idea that he was being held back as he couldn't play 3 games in 12 days shot down.

A bit like the posters who claimed Seedsman not brought straight back whereas others were was due to the specific type of injury, lay off length blah blah blah and not on ability (Seedsman was named emergency and ended up playing).

We legitimately didn't pick Greenwood on merit. We are fools. The ghost of Massie on Franklin lives on.
Greenwood is a match winner and comes through in big moments...we need him in the side.

The only possible excuse is that he plays modified minutes/role (permanent forward) in SANFL to manage workload whilst still keeping touch and then back in for Richmond.

If he plays in the SANFL and he doesnt play next week, the blow torch on our selectors will be unleashed.

It was fairly obvious what was going to happen in both cases. Greenwood especially was named to play SANFL from the moment he was dropped. Nothing said about being secretly rested.

Making up a story about him being rested was a nice automatic club defense mechanism from some posters but ultimately the evidence wasn't there to support it

Yes, the recovery may be an issue. The benefit is Crouch, Douglas and Hartigan didn't go.

In 2017, we played in Darwin on a Sat night then backed up 6 days later on a Friday night against Geelong (who were 2nd on the ladder, we were first). We didn't score a goal in the last quarter.

I basically agree with the bolded, except that I would express it as bringing pressure, not low scoring per se.

Unfortunately that trio is not blessed with pace and Douglas is playing his first game back in a long while, so he may be a liability late in the game. As it is the guy jogs to contests in the first quarter let alone in the 4th.

That 2017 team was a great team. Thats not the team we have in 2019. It may appear we have a lot of players from that side still with us, but so much has happened and changed since then, it is rather irrelevant. We are more like the 2018 side than the 2017 side.

Thanks for pointing out that stat about the last qtr v Geelong, yes I was aware we were outscored 0.4 to 3.2 in the last. That is a massive concern. For me about tonight. Then we follow up 5 days later.

We disagree thats fine nothing wrong in differences of opinion.

I guess my concerns come from the fact the Giants have hit 100pts 7/11 games this season and we did it just the once. So going toe to toe with them is daunting esp with their midfield and forwardline.

The only possibility is that he’s doing the old SANFL managed minutes thing. So playing and being rested at the same time.

It’s a long shot, but it’s the only way it makes any sense to me.

If Mackay replaces Sloane we’ve officially lost the plot.

2 mids down, Crouch in and the guy who tagged Oliver out of the game doesn’t get to repeat the job on Coniglio?

Shakes head

Hartigan actually did go. He sat in the heat outside the coaches box along with Knight :)
