McDermott is going on about we shoulda played Perrie instead of Douglas but Perrie would have been underdone....
Yet if we didn't lose Rutten we would have won!

-Ben

Douglas would've outperformed Perrie. He did some fantastic things.

What the **** can you do when you get treatment like that. What a disgrace

I don't care how many possesions Michael Doughty got, he was a turnover merchant.

Positives - The kids. Maric, Douglas had great games.

Reilly was great, as was Macca. Thommo was good, not great, but good.

Mate, I'd hardly call Douglas great.

Had 8 possessions, about 4 of which came in a 5 minute burst in the second quarter. Couldn't find the ball after half time unfortunately.

Needs to find more of the ball.

Great game of what was expected. Not to mention how was he meant to get a kick in that forwardline?

No surprise that he got pretty much all of his possesions on ball. He's no small forward.

I thought the umpiring was pretty good. The reason we lost is because our midfield disappeared from the ground after quarter time.

You have to feel for Massie. He was killed by Riewoldt. Ridiculous to play him on Big Nick if Perrie was fit.

If we do make the finals we will be limping in on one leg, AGAIN. We yet again suffer an injury to a key player. Time for a review of our training regime.

If Perrie was underdone we have another tall marking forward who has strung a few good games together, Gill! If your not going to give him a go when you are a tall short and your playing a tall team at the TD, when are you going to play him? Why bloody draft him.

Total agreement again Spingy, 4 goal lead at quarter time and they thought they could coast.... Disposals were a huge issue, and the umpiring was ok to me other than we should have had a deliberate out of bounds in the dying minutes.

2 points was flattering really, if the Saints had of kicked straight would have been a much greater loss.

I thought the Crows did well to hang in there. St Kilda were the better team for most of the game and had 7 more scoring shots. Riewoldt absolutely killed them all night. God knows why they didn't check Fisher more closely. He was far more effective than Adelaide's loose player (Knights I think?). Gehrig provided an option all night, even when Rutten was on the ground. Harvey was everywhere and their talented midfield of Dal Santo, Hayes and Ball gradually out classed Adelaide. Baker did a great job on Edwards after Edwards got plenty of the ball early.

I though McLeod was easily the Crows best player over 4 quarters. Ricciuto, Burton and Welsh provided some options occasionally, but no one over 6'2 had any sort of positive influence on the game. Gee the Crows miss Hentschel. I was impressed with Maric. Too many of the Crows players went in and out of the game.

The endeavour was there for both teams, but the talent and class of St Kilda won out tonight. Adelaide must take a gamble soon with the untried Nick Gill, because a tight defence will choke the athletically deficient duo of McGregor and Bock.

Good point. What was the point of recruiting him if we have no intention of playing him.

I am sorry! I know you get movement down stars when ever Douglas gets mentioned or goes near the ball but this is not a popularity contest. While Douglas played OK and did some good things, we were CLEARLY a man short. Injuries or no injuries.

You don't deliberately go into the game one tall players shot and with intention of playing Massie on St. Nick. I like Massie and rate him probably higher than a lot of people but that was a shithouse match up which ever way you slice it.

Playing Massie on Franklin on a wet night is COMPLETELY different than playing him on Reiwoldt at Telstra Dome. St. Nick is INFINITELY better overhead than Franklin and that match up was a nightmare.

Perrie or any other tall for that matter would have given us a MUCH MUCH better flexibility than a small, regardless if its Douglas, Vince, Pfieffer, Porplyzia..... I don't care who is in question.

I agree with Bone on this one 100%. This game was lost in the match committee meetings this week. We were a tall player shot going in, and when Rutten was done for the night, and Bock injured himself, we were dead in the water.

19 marks to 7 inside 50 is a MONSTEROUS margin and a telling statistic.

Can't fault the players. They gave it their all, tried their guts out. Sure then made some blews but the structure was shithouse because we were playing one tall man short.

Douglas is a great prospect for us but a tall should have been picked instead of him.

If both Rutten and Bock didn't get injured we would've been fine.

As I've previously stated Gill should've been picked over Perrie anyway, if we wanted a tall option.

Ian Perrie is an absolute liability returning from a lay-off.

BTW, I thought that was the best umpired game I've seen all year in both AFL and SANFL. They didn't fall for those soft in the back and too high free kicks which was great :thumbsu:
I thought they were whistle happy early for holding the ball decisions but to a degree I blame our players a bit here. Once they call the first couple you realise they are hot on them for the game and you adjust accordingly.

I thought the umpiring tonight was consistent. What they called for one team, they called for the other.

Plenty of player assessments tonight...

How do people rate Craig's performance ?

  • non selection of Mattner
  • going in against a tall side on a dry ground one tall short.
  • sending McGregor back
  • Failure to act on reivoldt

FFS, IF this and IF that.......

Going into the game everyone was saying how we are backing in the speed against the tall timber and we are playing a tall man short. All of a sudden it wouldn't have been an issue

It was an issue well before the ball was bounced in anger. It was an issue as soon as the final side was named.

Douglas shouldn't have played tonight. It should have been a tall player, especially at Telstra Dome and against a tall side like St. Kilda.

19 marks inside 50 tells us everything and Reiwoldt and Gehrig were taking those marks and dominating well before Rutten and Bock got injured. Reiwoldt had 10 marks at half time and Gehrig had 7 and for the big G-String, most of those were inside 50 and ON Rutten.

Questions need to be asked about our selection.

Even if Perrie was thought to be underdone, surely Gill should have played.

We had no flexibility with talls in an inside stadium!

I said questions needed to be asked of Craigy's coaching after the Eagles game and I was accused of being a bandwagoner.

His match day coaching leaves a lot to be desired.

I think it was arguably his worst coaching performance IMHO. Selections were all wrong, match ups were all wrong. Opening bounce, Rutten lines up of Gehrig :thumbsu: Massie on Reiwoldt :thumbsd: , Stevens on Clarke

I must saying, moving Kenny back is what I sould have done, especially with Bock injured. At least Kenny had the height and strength to go with G-String but some of the delivery he got was excellent.

I'm a big wrap for Craigy MD but heres my thoughts on your points:
  • non selection of Mattner
Yep, he's hard done by to not be in there ahead of some others IMO, perhaps more significantly is his choice to play Marty down back in the first place?
  • going in against a tall side on a dry ground one tall short.
You cant go into a game anticipating that we're going to have two injuries to two key big men, we missed Perrie tonight, but not in the first quarter when we had everyone on deck.
  • sending McGregor back
Had little choice, thought it was a good move actually and I thought it turned out alright, Kenny did pretty well on Gehrig, arguably better than truck did originally.
  • Failure to act on reivoldt
Thats the one I am critical of, the original decision was wrong IMO and then not to act on it, felt like we were back to the days of Gary.
