Half of those Port supporters will confuse it with getting an enema!! :D

Rather, I shouldn't use it because I got it wrong myself.

The word I had in mind was actually "anathema" - and when I look up its meaning it is not exactly what I thought it was. It means "A detested person" rather than what I thought "A detested concept".

Oh well, I'm sure there is a lesson there somewhere.

Well, using them is fine, but please spell them correctly. Contrary to popular belief around here many Port fans are highly educated. I know a considerable number who have done postgraduate study.

Anathema. Greek word. Curse or denunciation.

Beat you to it (re spelling), and I have yet another definition - "A formal ecclesiastical curse accompanied by excommunication" - which somewhat concurs with yours.

From dictionary.com:

a·nath·e·ma ( P ) Pronunciation Key (-nth-m)
n. pl. a·nath·e·mas

  1. A formal ecclesiastical ban, curse, or excommunication.
  2. A vehement denunciation; a curse: The sound of a witch's anathemas in some unknown tongueE(Nathaniel Hawthorne).
  3. One that is cursed or damned.
  4. One that is greatly reviled, loathed, or shunned.

Anyway enough of that. There is a game coming up.

In the paper, Rucci has given his prediction of selection

B: Hart__________Bassett___________Bickley
__Lade__________Tredrea________S. Burgoyne

HB: Johnco.ck_____McGregor__________Smart
___P. Burgoyne___C. Cornes_________Pickett

C: Goodwin______Stenglein_________Torney
__Schofield______N. Stevens________James

HF: Edwards_____M Stevens_________Bode
___Montgomery___Wakelin______Wanganeen

F: Perrie________Carey___________Ladhams
__Bishop________Paxman_________Hardwick

1R:Biglands, Ricciuto, McLeod
Brogan, Carr, K. Cornes

Inter: Clarke, Gallagher, Burns, Reilly
Co.ckatoo-Collins, Cochrane, Wilson, Thurstans

I think that Jason Torney on Roger James, should be a interesting match-up!

Bickley on Shaun Burgoyne should also be interesting.

How do you think Stiffy would go on Peter Burgoyne? They're best of mates, and there's the "tradition" of younger aboriginal players deferring to their older "cousins" in footy.

Rucci has no idea, but then again that is not exactly new news. :o Like we would play Bicks on Jnr B. Would be very suprised if he got many of our backline matchups correct at all.

I'm sorry, but in my personal opinion, Paxman on Carey is suicide. Carey would tear Paco a new a*sehole and the poor old guy wouldnt even realise until three quarter time.

Just a few solutions I came up with this morning. (Bear in mind, I've only started studying the on field positions and until I have an in-depth understanding of each one, it will probably appear that I have no idea what I'm talking about.)

- Chad to CHB, Wakelin to FB, Tredrea to CHF and Paxman to FF. Dont know how well Paxman would do in the forward line but anything to get him off Carey, for christs sake.

- Bench Paxman, move Bishop onto Carey at FB and Thurstans plays on Perrie in the back pocket.

- Chad to FB, Paxman to CHB and Wakes to CHF. Once again, I dont know how well Wakes would perform at CHF but arent they both the same sort of position, except one's attacking and the other is defending?

I really have no idea. But I'll learn.

Further proof that The Advertiser is a rag... do yourself a favour and get a subscription to The Australian.

Anyway, Ben Hart on Brendon Lade? Erm...? Do I need a whiteboard marker and some measuring tape to point out why that's a problem or?...

We'll have to play the three talls to combat Port's height - especially forward. Unless Ben Marsh is injured he'll have to get a guernsey - as much as he doesn't deserve it - alongside Biggles and the vet.

Another thing... forget Matthew Primus... Port's biggest loss is undoubtedly Josh Francou. That bloke is Mr. Showdown. They should just rename the thing "West End Francou Day". Whether it's racking up 30 touches or hitting/scragging blokes behind play (his favourite target was Dr. Liptak) the man is a wonder - and luckily for us he won't be lining up on the Saturday night.

And to think, if Port didn't come into the competition Francou would've most likely spent the rest of his career in the SANFL - a la Brodie Atkinson and Damien Squire - as just another good midfielder who wasn't good enough to be drafted/forge a career on an AFL list, robbing the football public of one of the game's premier midfielders.

Can't wait... should be a cracker.

I'm the same boat. They gave me a great idea the other day, in lectures and tutes just fool around with team line-ups, now only if I had a photographic memory of the other 15 clubs' playing lists!

Well done for having a decent crack at it mate!;)

- With your first case it looks OK. It would certainly be a bit out of the blue if it happens. If my memory serves me correctly Paxman has played up forward on an odd occassion but has mainly struggled.

- This one looks pretty good and is a possibility. However, I think that Paxman's experience and toughness in the backlines is just what is needed in games like showdowns.

- Wakes at CHF is a bit of a worry. I just don't see him as a forward. He is a great backman.

I think the best thing for Port is to play Tredrea and Cornes up forward as they would no doubt cause headaches when it comes to match ups.

I think Wakelin will get Stevens and he did well on Stevens on a few occasions.

I think Paxman is the man for Carey. Both lack a bit of pace and both are strong one on one.

Bishop will probably get remaining tall which will probably be Perrie.

Cheers ;)

For every single one of Francou's possessions in those games? Had nothing to do with Francou's hard and loose ball gets at all?...

I'm impressed!
