Game Day Crows vs Port: Showdown 57

This is the strangest I've ever felt after a Showdown win. I've never felt this down. Haha. I'm sure I'll be happy tomorrow but right now I'm more angry at Nick's then I am happy with the win.
You'll be right mate, just drink more alcohol while watching Crows games.

It works for me. :drunk:

No. The problem was poor execution and brain-dead decisions (Milera, Laird, etc., etc.)
They certainly didnt help
The coaching was fine.
No - too many mistakes that in a more important game get exposed

Happy with the win but we could have and should have won by 6 goals going away

Now yes thats bad kicking but the moments like letting Rozee and Butters run wild without any seeming correction

Look at the replay with 10 minutes to go and we see Nicks panicking and asking how much time left - I noticed and made the comment he would stop the game

And the game stopped - we got lucky

Couple of genuine questions for people here.
Do people seriously think Rozee didn’t deserve the medal?
Also, why is there so much hate on Nicks?

I think Rozee deserved the medal, although Thilthorpe and Butters had legitimate claims as well.

Nicks is in his sixth season and has yet to really fire a shot. I liked him early on, I think he was what we needed after our culture fell apart in the 2017-19 period. He's done a good job of getting the group united and (mostly) pulling in the same direction, and we're not losing players every off-season anymore. But that's team manager stuff... he has yet to demonstrate that he can take the next step needed to become a quality coach. He has a demonstrated history of making safe, risk-averse calls on everything from selection to on-field strategy. And when he does finally try something unusual, it almost always backfires.

There doesn't appear to be anything special about him as a coach, no x-factor or tactical genius or force of personality. He's just kind of... there. We have a bad record of either losing close matches, or falling over the line only because our opponent misses their opportunities. And every time it seems like we're getting somewhere, we have a big fall from grace and go back behind the pack. He's uninspiring to listen to, speaks in vapid cliches, and for someone who is constantly talking about "learnings" and "work ons", he doesn't seem to have developed his coaching capacity since the day he walked in the door. As a club, our entire coaching strategy appears to be to find other talented people to backfill his areas of weakness, which begs the question what value he is actually providing.

Based on that last quarter, Port should have won by several goals. The fact that they didn't says a whole lot more about them, than it does about us and Nicks.

We deserved too, we still don't have any idea in close games. We give the opposition so many chances to win the game.

Great grab by Keane and ROB in the dying minute.

Brillance from Rankine got us over the line

The worst part was this wasn’t even a close game. We were 22 points up with all the momentum.

Nicks made it a close game with his incompetence.

I've never really felt flat after winning a showdown before but everything I saw tonight just screams finish 7th and lose a final and everyone will be patting each other on the back like it's a great season when in reality we just won a couple of close games at some point and we have a healthy percentage due to flat tracking and that's the only reason we made the 8
I think if we'd not taken the foot off the pedal and kicked away by a few more goals we'd feel totally different about the result.

There is very often games where one team is clearly better than the other, however, the underdog team puts in a really strong effort, their best players turn it on (Rozee and Butters), and the game remains close for three quarters or so. Eventually though, the cream rises to the top and the better team pulls away. This happens all the time. That’s precisely what last night was with 10 minutes to go. We were going to pull away, until Nicks applied the handbrake for no good reason.

All night, Port looked great at stoppage, and very vulnerable on turnover. So what does Nicks do? Switch to a style that increases the number of stoppages, and allows them to turn it over without being punished. Genius.
