The last few years we’ve been underdogs and got the win. This is definitely no lock in. I’m hoping our forward line can capitalise and our mids are on song. I guess we wait and see. I’m going to be at the game for both the SANFL and AFL matches. Winning both would be a great day

That's become the MO of Nicks against the 4 to 14 ranked sides unfortunately. Even if we're favourites and should be in for a win we're still reliably capable of not showing up and getting trounced.

When I last checked this out, there was no evidence to support this.

The favourite (according to the betting) in AFL wins just under 70% of matches. This weekend the “favourites” according to the bookies are already 0 - 2.

In fairness, over the last 7 years the “underdogs” have won more than 30% of showdowns. I think the “every game is 50/50” initially stems from the Crows losing the first Showdown. I was a young naive lad and I remember walking to the game with not a single care. I was subsequently scarred.


This game is a genuine 50/50. Both teams have played some good footy this year (Pear v Hawks) and some disappointing games. This has been typical of almost every team this year. Strangely we have been one of the more consistent teams.

A win today sets up our season and puts a dagger through the heart of the Pear season.

In the end, I think Port is struggling and we'll get the job done handily.

Prediction: Time for Thilthorpe to get back to BOG form and win the medal, kicking 6.

I think par is out the window. Agree that’s what we’re looking at, but Port’s absolute best is pretty good and we could be up against that all night and just scrape in.

Just watching last week’s Sunday footy show. Lloyd did a bit with vision on Carlton’s defence, and even though they have some issues, no way Port will be that bad. Well, not against us anyway.

Is this correct though? I guess it depends on defining ‘often’. There has been a handful of big upsets, but gut feel is the expected side usually gets up.

I’ll be expecting a big game from him, love the way he goes about. Every chance he’s their only forward half winner though. I like Georgiades too, but reckon he needs ball to be a fair bit cleaner than SPP. Doubt there’ll be a lot of that, for either side. Especially earlier in quarters.
