Yep forgot about Bock. He needs to be the go to guy at CHF and the other forwards can work around him. How come we kept picking out Staker when we were trying to go forward ? Rushing ? Panicking a bit ?
What we still lack is that strong body to stand under the long bomb coming in high. Because our forward line is smallish - no Lynch types it forces us to be a bit cute with our disposal and under pressure that's hard to do.

IMO we need Kenny Mac at FF to take the blows and get the ball to ground - catches the defence out often due to unpredictability where it will go off hands. Bock is doing the job at CHF but Welsh needs to be a leading forward with kenny taking the contests for the high ball.

Without that contest the ball came out too easily from our forward line.

Some great signs tonight with the youngsters really stepping up. Douglas found a heap of the ball and had plenty of clearances, VB easily had the best game of his pre-season with 23 possessions and Reilly and Knights also did well. And Pfeiffer sounded pretty impressive in the last quarter. :thumbsu:

I don’t care that we lost, what does concern me though is the influence of Kerr and Embley again. It’s only a trial game however we simply cannot stop these guys and when it counts they will destroy us again. We must find a way to curb their influence.

We are no where near as fit as we was this time last year so my guess is we will be changing our fitness regime to finish stronger at the pointy end of the the season proper.

Be patient we will win against them. Remember Colling...........Colling........no can't even bring myself to say it.

Just need to kick those bloody goals in the close ones. That's cost us in the last two years.

I'm not a massive Kenny fan - but he seems destined for this role this year. I agree that we need a stationary deep marking target - and Ken seems to be the one who can do the business

The tactic with Pfeiffer so far is to bring him on in the 2nd half.

IMO pfeiffer is just a tad slow and my suspicion is that Craig waits for the speed to go out of the game to bring him on to help build up his confidence. He played well when he was on. :thumbsu:

Paul Hamilton on.

Happy with a lot of aspects of the game. Some things towards the end were not great. Ran out of the legs a bit. Execution when tired fell away a little bit as a result not as great in defensive pressure.

Really happy with young midfielders especially Douglas. Reilly had a strong game around stoppages. Kept Goodwin out of the midfield. Edwards had cameos there. Wanted to play the kids in there and we are pretty happy with how they went about it.

Planned to play Johncock for only a half so played McLeod in the first half and Johncock in the 2nd. Conditions were very trying. Pretty hot. Tried to kept the rotations up. Difficult to breath. Great game, some really hard running, teriffic tackles which is a credit to both sides in those conditions.

In closing, REALLY happy with a lot of aspects of the game. Disappointed with the execution under pressure and fatigue in the last quarter but overall pretty happy.

I agree re Kenny. His lack of mobility wont get exposed, he has sticky fingers and gives us a real option at the front of the square should we need to go there under pressure.

What was the story with Kenny tonight ? Did he actually even play ?

Tad slow is not the impression I had of Pfeiffer. However, the reality is, that if he is fit but not in Neil Craig's immediate plans, he should perform for the Legs and put pressure on for a spot in the AFC side from round 1.

Rubbish.

I disagree with that macca. Sure he's not the fastest going around but there's no way he isn’t playing because of his pace. You think Vince is a speedster?

Who mentioned Vince?

Perish the thought that I said what I think about a Norwood player.

If he's not slow by leg, then his reflexes at this level are on the slowish side.

He never seems to have a lot of time to get rid of it, although his disposal under pressure is good.

Get an ice-pack and cool down Drummond - I said he played well.

I’m just stressed, the Legs lost to the Magpies tonight. Same skill errors and poor decision making was on offer again, only a trial game but you don't like seeing the same mistakes. :( But we'll beat them in Round 1. ;)

Pfeiffer is a top notch youngster; and I know what you’re saying, I just think he’s a little better than what you’re giving him credit for. Good skills, great courage, tremendous vertical leap and great tackler. I’m just a little disappointing with Craigy for only giving him one quarter of action, he deserves more time. Why not give him a real chance to see if he’s ready to play Round 1, however with the minimal game time he’s bound to play for the Legs. By all reports he was very impressive in the quarter he was on, so why not give him more time?

I agree, seemed a little odd to only give him one quarter in a praccy match. Odd.

Slowly slowly. If we gave all our youngsters a full game time, then our main team will be underdone.

I think he is just giving him exposure. Other players need to get re-adjusted to the pace early on in the game. Pfeiffer is a good prospect - but no regular this year.
