Win lose or draw, this is the most important thing to come out of tonight.
We need new midfield blood so we can have the privilege of resting our veterans forward, down back or on the bench for longer periods of time.
Correct , bugger the result this is what these games are for. To give confidence to the younger brigade to realise they can play this game

Sounded like a good sharp hitout for both sides- if any team in competition has a tactic to stop Hunter doing his thing in the last quarter, I'd love to know what it is.

Looking forward to seeing Douglas in the season proper, sounded like he was owning.

Is it just me, is the guy who 5aa had reporting in from the port game -Justin Rowe, or whatever his name is- afflicted with a pretty serious learning disability? At one point, he referred to someone's long goal as a 'a good 60 metre-y'

Slowly slowly. If we gave all our youngsters a full game time, then our main team will be underdone.

I think he is just giving him exposure. Other players need to get re-adjusted to the pace early on in the game. Pfeiffer is a good prospect - but no regular this year.
I wasn't suggesting a full game, perhaps half a game ?

Not much point in revealing any 'stop Hunter secrets' in a practise match is there ?
Well, you know, if said secrets existed, I would have thought there was quite a bit of point in revealing them during a cut throat Preliminary Final, but hey, that would be going off topic ;)

So would I. As would the other 15 clubs. Has that move ever failed?

Dougie Douglas,
He's my man,
If he can't do it
No-one can

He's an absolute gem, definitely keep an eye out for him.

Comical isn't it ? It may have been 2001, but I reckon Essendon didnt even win a pre season game. Think they were 0/5 ? Don't quote me, but I remember Essendon having a pre season shocker.
In 2003, Port lost all 4 trial matches plus the first two games of the season. I think we then lost 2 more games for the rest of the season.

Doesnt mean much.

Yes, Stephen Rowe and the english language are not constant companions. ;)

It may only be a praccy match, but it is extremely disappointing that we coughed it up against West Coast again.

We seem to have a serious mental impediment when it comes to them...

One worries.

How much game time did tippett get, heard him take a couple of marks in the last five minutes, but didn't hear the first half, and was kind of watchin Lions, and listening to Adelaide second half.

Cheers

Sounded like he only had one run in the first half and another in the last quarter.

This was our young midfield versus their guns in the form of Judd, Kerr, Embley and co.. I am ****ing sick of the Eagles as well, but honestly, this match tells me we have a serious chance against them in the season proper. We don't play them until Round 13, and it's at AAMI so I would suggest that with Douglas, Knights, VB, Vince and Griffin all hopefully getting another 10 or so games under their belts, we'll really come at them.
I hope we do too but the sad thing is they have young guns who are good players too plus that midfield. In saying that, the percentages are that they have to lose to us sometime. :)

I have a little theory on this. When youngsters come into a top side the illusion is often created of them being better than they actually are. They're surrounded by top-tier gun players, and make small links in the chain comparatively, but surrounded by silk they APPEAR to be great. I'm not inclined to give kudos to young players unless they are actually making their own plays, taking charge to some extent, you know? I don't see too many West Coast youngsters doing that, but I thought our extremely young midfield combination did it last night, Douglas and VB especially, did it against seriously good opposition with very little support from our established midfield guns.

I thought Hurn was probably the standout youngster for them, but again, he wasn't noticeably good in the realm of a Douglas or a VB.
I know what you are saying but I am confident our young players are good enough. Priddis, Rosa, Butler, Hurn all averaged over 27 touches a game in the WAFL last year. All guys aged between 18-21. They carried their respective midfields at that level. Last week Rosa and Priddis got 27 and 29 posessions respectively in the match against the bombers. Hurn has had an outstanding preseason playing up the ground aswell, has always been around 20 touches.

These guys can play, just with our top tier midfielders back, they are not going to get the TOG they needed to shine. Especially since we were trying to get some miles into the legs of Judd, Embley and Kerr because they had missed quite abit of footy in the preseason.

I also couldnt understand why Douglas wasnt listed in the best for you guys. AFL site is a joke though.

Just another thing you'll have to add Cousins , Glass , Wirrapanda & Fletcher back in and considering it was Judd , Kerr & Embers first hitout for this season rnd 13 looks good from here.;)

Have to agree. Had a few reds last night and read up to 3/4 time then posted my thoughts, thinking we had won, read the paper this am to see they kicked 6 goals to nil. Whether that was NC rersting or tinkering Im not sure, I would have thought even a practice game, when your so far in front that you go on with it, break the hoodoo or whatever it is

Dont start getting arrogant on us now.

There is a couple of other sides supporters who contantly do that after a premiership and they came crashing down.

No names no pack drill. ;)

hahaha let me guess one of those other side's supporters love boasting about things that supposedly (according to them) will happen in the future and celebrating achievements not yet achieved.

Very interesting comment by Rowey on the Sunday Roast in the am.

He explained why Huddo spent most of the game on the pine.

Huddo's mission for the game was to watch Cox and see how he played, where he went, and how he got on his own etc.To learn from the best.

It undoubtedly would have been a twofold lesson - one being how to curb Cox's influence, and the other to be ble to replicate what he does.

Very strategic and a worthwhile exercise IMO. :thumbsu:
