Anyone hopped on to this yet?

At the moment it kinda sucks for Australians, as the most you can buy is $300 USD using CEX.IO.

Plus there isn't really a good ETH wallet out there yet.

In the past month ETH has gone from about $150 aus to $460. I wonder if it'll hold up.

Any similar investments made by anyone here? Share your tips/experiences.
 
I've had quite a bit of discussion around ETH/BTC/XRP in this thread and have been following and trading crpyto for the last 3-4 years. Personally I see ETH and Ripple (XRP) as the two major players over the next 2-3 years with possibly SIA as well.

Would I buy more ETH? Not at this price, I bought it between $7-$46 and it's due for a correction at some stage.
Would I buy more XRP? If it's a long term play sure, it's got enormous potential.
Would I buy BTC? No, it's horribly outdated and only serves as a currency pair for getting money in/out of other cryptos. Once ETH or XRP currency pairs are added BTC will no longer have a purpose.
Would I buy SIA? Yep, I think it's still undervalued.

All views are my own obviously.
 
Eth trading 1billion a day on volume now and closing about 2 billion per day on Bitcoins total market cap. It could be number 1 total market cap within a week.

BTC is still good because it has a few things going for it if you're an investor. Its circulating supply is limited and its currency used by traders to buy altcoins. When the cryptocurrency market continues to mature and more altcoins like Sia become niche markets BTC demand will increase and limited supply will push its value.


I've made a few investments. Ethereum is my largest holding, after that I have Bitcoin and also some altcoins that I see with potential or undervalued. The one's I would recommend are: Siacoin, Steem, Lisk. You can also take a high risk punt on shitcoins that look legit that could make you rich: Reddcoin is one I'd say has potential. Honorable mentions that I'm not in but I think have good projects: BAT, Swarm City, Stratis, Litecoin, Golem.

I would advise to pick a few that you believe in and hold them long term. This market is still young and maturing. Some of these cryptos will take off, the potential for niche markets in this is huge. I see them replacing FIAT currencies and early investors will make bank.

could you explain why/how crypto currencies which you declare as potential "investments" and recommend people "buy and hold", will replace fiat currencies that act as actual mediums of exchange? ie if everyone followed your advice here, how would anyone use bitcoin et al to purchase anything given the market was hoarding most of the units?

A lot of them already act as mediums of exchange and are beginning to become adopted in Japan and China. Investing in them would be no different to Forex. People will buy and hold now because the market is growing, as it reaches maturity (the point where its adopted by more platforms as an exchange) less people will be doing this because the growth would have reached maturity and the profits will be lower. The infancy of the market makes it more volatile, as the swing margins are very turbulent but it makes for good gains if you're investing.

they're really good if you're into drugs, illegal pr0n, weapons or ransomware. not so good if you just wanna buy a loaf of bread at the supermarket.

ok that sounds reasonable. however, it doesn't address why you think they will replace real currencies. why would a government (for example) want to replace their national currency with something over which they have no regulatory oversight or control?

Buy on btcmarkets and send it to Bittrex exchange for holding / trading. I've found that to be the best value. I don't use wallets so I can't speak on that.

Btcmarkets accepts deposits from Aus banks using poli payment. Their fees are the best I know of.

Bittrex is a trading platform and secure for holding too. They trade a lot alts and offer USDT as well which is good. Their support has been fast for me. During Bitcoin fork this month they paid out Bitcoin Cash on the first day, I think they were the fastest to do it.

Hey buddy...
I jumped into crypto just over a week ago - have had my eye on it for awhile but got sick of a mate of mine carrying on about how his coins were going (rising in value) on facebook - so thought I'm going to get in on this.
Admittedly I was waiting until I cleared all my debt (apart from property)..which I did with my tax return this year.
So now i feel a little more free to look at different investments outside of property (which I will still invest in by the way).

So far mainly Eth...with some BTC as well.
I'm using Coinbase as my exchange.
So far so good...already over 10% gained. My wives seen what I've done and jumped on as well although she's not as consumed by it like me.
I use CoinTracking site to track my purchases.

At present I dont have the time to 'trade', I'm thinking more along the lines of hold for at least a few years and see what comes of it.
Also my lack of 'knowledge' doesnt make me confident enough to trade.

I've been reading everything possible...listening to some podcasts and watching youtube clips to help me get my head around it all.

Only real issue I have right now is storage. For my mind Paper Wallet is the best avenue but I'm still open to other methods. Just not finding it easy to understand that side of things. I'm looking for ways to create the paper wallet but struggling with it.
The online security issues make me nervous and I wont go to hard on investing until this is clear to me.

I think we're quite limited here in Australia unfortunately with what we can do with it.

Onwards and upwards...hopefully!

There are ways to get other currencies. I've now jumped onto Golem, but it's a fair screw around. I use Exodus to trade, but it's not available on mobile.

Hodl hodl hodl....buy buy buy... I haven't been into this for very long so im having a bit of a 'woah' moment...
But understand whats happening in China and that dude from jp morgans 'views' of bitcoin (w***er) have been highlighted by the media are catalysts for whats going on...I also believe btc (in particular) was due for a correction so it all feels like a perfect storm.
Watching the markets...my gut feel is that we will start to see an upswing again if not today then by Monday.
Reason I say Monday, people tend to sell more than buy crypto over weekends.
 
I've got around $15k I've set aside for an initial dabble into crypto investment.

Any decent blogs, investors etc that people recommend, which are the best AUS sites etc to use currently.

Not looking at bitcoin more the smaller price, longer term investments; ripple, ark, golem, ethereum

Anyone looking atm?

I have been involved for a big chunk of this year basically buying/trading cryptos on Bittrex. I am also involved in a couple of different investment sites for BTC which are holding up ok. The rate of return is ridiculous and I'm already up over 100% there are plenty that are scams but I'm trying to select the good ones amongst the crap and make money that way. The returns then get reinvested into more coins! haha! :)

The only aussie i follow is Cryptocurrency Australia on youtube. Seems to have a good educated grasp of crypto and does relate many of his videos to Australian investors.
Otherwise I also watch on youtube Boxmining, Crypto News, DataDash, Real-Crypto and CryptO.
Theres plenty more but I've refined my youtube subscriptions to these guys as they're pretty good at guiding you through the charts etc.
Otherwise I use Reddit, CryptoCompare and bitcointalk for forums etc.
I'm still relatively new to all this so finding more sites and avenues every day. So if you've found some good bloggers, investors etc I'm keen to hear about them.
I've honed in on ripple, verge, civic and tenx (also bitcoin, eth and ltc).

I too use bittrex for trading (although I hodl what I purchase) as I'm long term...no real time for short term trading although i'd love to dive into it...
