I’m talking in general.. people should be onto this now. Almost stupidity not be doing this.
I agree if you have an idea of what you're doing and you're only putting in money you're willing and able to lose.

Many would argue it's absolute stupidity to be doing this right now. But it's all risk appetite.

Interested in getting involved... just want to have a dabble, drop $500 in and see what happens for fun.
Seeking anyone who could give advice on good exchanges/getting set up.

Coinspot is an Aussie exchange,it's easy to use, good variety of crypto to buy, down side, fees are high.

To buy ETH or BTC -Independent reserve is very cheap.Buy ETH or BTC there, then send your ETH or BTC to other exchanges wallets to buy the crypto you want-this is the cheapest way to buy & sell crypto.

Just do your research & read up a lot on the crypto you want to buy.

Once you buy a good idea is to take the crypto off the exchange and store offline either in a Nano ledger S or a Trezor ($150 each give or take).Or you set up my etherwallet.com for free.

You think independent reserves fees are cheap?

This should point you in the right direction....

IT DEPENDS ON WHAT COINS YOU WANT TO BUY. Not every exchange will have the specific coin you're chasing. Go to coinmarketcap.com and do a search for the coin you're interested in. Scroll down and click on the "Markets" tab and it will show you what exchanges you can purchase the coin at.

As far as australian exchanges go, BTC Markets is the pick of the bunch but your purchases will be limited to btc, bch, eth, ltc, xrp.

Cointree, Coinspot, Coinjar, Independent Reserve are other australian exchanges but they all have limitations and problems. So you will need to use binance, poloniex or bittrex. Of all the international exchanges, Binance is my personal favorite, but again their selection of coins is somewhat limited (although this may have improved as I see they've recently added LSK, which is shaping up to be a major player in the cryptosphere).

That's what I've been trying to explain to others on here. Coinspot is not a proper trading platform where you can set buy and sell orders, stop losses etc. It's a marketplace designed for simpletons who are intimidated by proper exchanges like bittrex. And it charges stupid fees. Just a waste of money.

Anyway, there are other better exchanges on the horizon.

Cobinhood is a decentralized, zero-fee exchange that has a product in beta phase atm.

ethbit.co.uk is a foreign exchange that is under maintenance right now to accept aussie users.

Edit: The Cobinhood exchange is now live but is not accepting aussie users as yet.

TokenPay are currently running an ICO. https://www.tokenpay.com/

The 50% bonus expires in 1 day.

TokenPay is Fully Integrated with the Tor Network for MAXIMUM Coin Security, Anonymity and Privacy.

The TPAY coin is the ONLY token that contains ALL of the most vital anonymity features. It has Stealth Addresses, Ring Signatures, Zero Knowledge Proofs and is Untraceable, End to End Anonymous and Unlinkable. It also has a Secure P2P and Group Chat function that is built directly in to the custom configured wallets. All of this is wrapped in a complete root level Tor Network Integration.

Out of all the other so-called "Privacy Coins" only Monero boasts many of the features similar to TPAY but it falls well short. Monero does not support Tor Network Integration or have a Secure Chat Interface. And Zcash, while heralded for its privacy features, does not support End to End Anonymity and is linkable and has no Secure Chat or Tor Network integration. And Dash basically has nothing in terms of true privacy coin attributes.

TokenPay's TPAY is the World's Most Secure Coin. It has been thoroughly audited by Sunerok. He is a TokenPay Advisor and also the Lead Developer of Verge. Watch this video below in order to understand the TPAY difference and why it is called The World's Most Secure Coin:
