Ok so Im setup on coinspot but they aren't taking deposits. Anyone have a recommendation on an alternative?

In terms of getting started I was thinking about buying chunks of all the tiny coins and sitting on them - Btyecoin, SiaCoin, Digibyte etc - I figure if one takes off then that covers me pretty well.

Your best bet would be BTC Markets, if they're taking new accounts.

Not sure how true but I read that you can only get hacked on an exchange if you're logged in to your exchange account.

I'm bit a worried as I've got an ETH's worth of IOTA stuck on Bitfinex.

Have you tried the IOTA wallet? It was a pain when I looked at it.

Better yet just sell the IOTA for Walton or Vechain ;)

EDIT: I don't own those 2 coins but wish I did.

EDIT 2: Bitfinex has been hacked before.

If you have to have coins on an exchange for a while, 2FA is a must I reckon. But even this doesn't protect if the back end is hacked.

Also, if you read believe some tin-hats on reddit, sometimes these 'hacks' aren't hacks at all, but flat-out theft. I've never had any issues myself but I'm new to the game. I get the feeling the level of worry outweighs the probability a-la shark attacks.

Yes please make sure you've stashed your coins away.

Know someone personally who's lost a lot of crypto on bitfinex without any explanation either.

looks like another terrible day for crypto. Whales have taken 50b out of the marketcap. Guess its more buying opportunities.

These huge dips and fluctuations are starting to make me realise that we should always reserve some coin in tether. So whenever the whales dump the market like this we have our own opportunity to buy back in and get some discounts.

Currently holding $30 of embercoin which is about 1.3million tokens.

With the huge hype the wallets have crashed and ceased trading on multiple exchanges. Currently now worth $1300 usd but will dump like crazy when people havr access again.

Its been a fun ride though

Thanks very much. Way easier to get it all started!

Less options in coins but thinking I might dump a heap into Ripple and hope for a spike? Feel like I'd be better off with a few hundred there vs a dozen ETH?

Unless you are day trading dont be concerned with drops. Prices will kick up again in the new year when people have accounts verified and can deposit again.

Thats why I was so keen to get in now. I know that the hype has well and truly hit and people will be throwing their money in after the Christmas rush dies down.

Got some Ripple, Verge, Tron and Iota for now.
A couple with real potential there after looking at what their plans are.

So everybody go out and buy them ;)

I've been very actively "re-shuffling" since I started early this month. Close to an overall position I'm happy with. Made some nice profits on XRP, TRX and to a lesser extent XVG, which I was able to diversify with. Made a few trades that have cost me money too, whilst working out which coins I want to hold. Ah well. I figure you need enough on each coin that you'd be satisfied enough w/ the return should the coin do well. No point having a real small amount spread too thin. Reverse of that is there's no way I could have all my eggs in one basket. More like half a dozen baskets rn. Starting to like the spread of things and fingers crossed for the NY that's for damned sure.

I think XRP will grow again early 2018, but most people say ETH is certain to grow. You might want to transfer some out to an exchange if you've joined one and trade for an alt coin as well. Up to you.

i know its a bit crass to discuss personal investment amounts as we all are in different financial positions, and instead talking in percentages would be better. How have you guys broken up your portfolio?

Im gearing towards having 75% being long-term hodls. XRP, DASH, Neo.
About another 20% being liquid trades where i can move funds around with news, rumours, developments, etc.
And for something a bit different, im going to use 5% on long shot speculative coins.

The 5% would be on those coins at <$0.01 I noticed that Ember coin go up over 100x on Boxing Day, and even just a $10 investment would yield $1000+ Those "shitcoins" outside the top 100 marketcap are the ones more likely to have those huge 10x gains in the short term, and i might as well throw a handful of darts at the board and hope to hit bullseye.

Its like backing a winner in a Melbourne Cup field of 10,000.

Ive got at the moment around 25% in 4 different coins mentioned above. No idea if this is a sound strategy or not.

I have a lot of experience in financial markets, but this is impossible to read. Guess its low risk for potential high reward if you're not in for too much.

Just read that there now is an IOTA cold storage card...might do a little research on it.

I look at coingecko to check the xrp price, it’s 1.73, I look at btcmarkets and it’s 1.64

What’s the go?

How are you guys managing this for tax? I've been wanting to get in for a while, but from what I've been reading every coin trade needs to be recorded. For instance, even trading ETH for TRX is a "transaction". Seems like hodling would be ok, but day trading would be a nightmare at tax time.

What do you guys think about ICON (ICX)? haven't seen much chat about it here.
