my litecoin only up 4000% since this time last year. Ffs.

How much lower can litecoin go from here? Or is it steadying? Or is crypto doomed in general from here? Expected litecoin to be in the thousands by now. The hype seems over and the trust isn’t there, but if there is litecoin is one to trust out of maybe 5 coins at best

Imagine if you'd bought BTC at the ATH a bit over a month ago. Ouch.

The majority of people in this thread probably purchased for the first time in December. Plenty of bag holding going on right now I'd imagine.

I bought in in early December. Have taken some profit in fiat and also increased and diversified positions along the way, have had some very nice breaks but also made a few dumb moves. Was 3 - 4 X my investment for a while there but that's come back to the pack. January has been brutal no doubt, without a couple of high profit deals it would have been more so. However, still well and truly up and looking forward to an excellent 2018. Bags are only bags if you let them become bags. The only rule that matters is to make money.

What I fail to understand is, how anyone who has been in this game more than 12 months doesn't take at least half of their PF out to fiat sometime in early January. This has happened what, the last 3 years? If I had sat through all of them I'd be feeing mighty silly right about now.

Time's like this highlight those that are inpatient or short sighted.
Perspective for the noobs;
BTC (USD)
01/02/17 - $970 (1 year ago)
01/08/17 - $2,871 (6 months ago)
01/02/18 - $10,169 (Today)

Plenty of coins out there that have outperformed BTC so take the broader view.

Patience is key.
HOLD!!!

That's what I don't understand.

"don't invest in bitcoin, at one stage it was 6c, and it boomed to 36c, and then it CRASHED to 21c and then another time it was 85c and it went all the way to $29 and then it CRASHED to $3 and then the next time it went from $15 all the way to $213 and then it CRASHED to $70. It keeps crashing you will lose money!!!"

People have to understand that prices don't go up forever, they will correct after a big run up. This isn't a new thing. The issue is when you jump in and then look at the figure and go OMG its going down I have to make sure I don't lose everything and you sell at a loss.

If there is no news around and the fundamentals of the investment haven't changed from when you first invested (yes the fundamentals that you read up on and understood before investing) and the price is dropping why would you jump off?
So you are throwing away all the information you read up on and the logic when you made your decision because the figure is red now instead of green? That isn't smart.
Now of course if there is actual tangible change in the prospects of the company/stock/crypto then you may re-evaluate the investment decision and cut your losses. The lesson then is, do better research to start with.

Well said mate...

Frustrates me no end when I see someone sprouting on about how they have 'lost money' after buying at a high...firstly, you haven't sold yet...secondly, look past your purchase date!!!
I don't see this so much on here...it's social media - for my mind the bane of cryptos existence.
