Yes it might be ephemeral.

But it is important.

Culture is more than ethics, it is more than leaning on the past.

It is about striving.

Striving to be the best.

Every day, every year.

In the last 15 years we have not been doing that. We have tried to be some form of Carlton we might remember rather than being the best as the present demands.

History is fantastic, but in terms of a football and admin department it should only be a spark and nothing more.

The flame should be created and built by the players, coaches, employees, supporters and volunteers of today.

Everyone pulling together to one goal.

Its all well and good to harbour aspirations of being the best club in the land again one day, but I do hope the old mantra of 'We are Carlton **** The Rest' arrogance is long gone.

We has a football club have been humbled in the last 15 years, a downfall of our own choosing somewhat.

Have to stop living in the past, stop with this 'we expect top 4/premierships every year' expectation and just show a bit more humility towards our opponents (well except Essendon, bugger them, hope we crush them for the next ten years)

Collingwood and Eddie did suffer delusions of grandeur (biggest sporting club in Southern Hemisphere crap) after their 2010 flag, and look where they now are.

And James Hird, and his arrogant delusions of 'whatever it takes' has resulted in a massive hubris for that footy club, one that will take many years to erode, should the verdicts we are all hoping for happen on March 31st.

Pride comes before a Fall, we should all remember the mistakes the George Harris/John Elliott administrations made at our great club, and make sure we never repeat them !!!.
