Cummings dropped,Wellman out

Surely the news of cummings being dropped will help north. Even if he didnt make a contribution he'll probably take our best defender (Macca). Wellman will miss the north game which should free up our forwards.

Watch out for Sav I think he'll kick a bag against the Coasters.

Actually I'm not sure if Cummings' omission does help us.

Usually Martyn is as.signed to Cummings, and Cummings has been soundly beaten on the last few occasions we have played the Parrots. He has struggled to get more than 2 or 3 kicks a game on Martyn, and spends large parts of the game on the bench.

This means that if selected, Cummings renders useless one spot on the Parrots' team.

If he is on the field they have 17 men + the useless Cummings.
If he is on the bench, they are down to 3 interchange + the useless Cummings.
Note : This is not a general opinion that Cummings is useless, just that he is useless when Martyn plays on him.

Cummings strength is his body size, which is why he plays so poorly on Martyn, who can match him for size and strength. Put Cummings on a smaller fullback, and he will kick goals. Against Martyn he is useless. Quite literally, a white elephant.

Having Wellman out should hurt Essendon, given that he provides them with run out of the backline, and can also take a tall opponent, which would probably have been either Carey or McKernan. I don't think it will be enough of a hole in their side to have us beat them, but any bit of good fortune our way is well overdue considering the circumstances of the injury crisis when we last played Essendon in Round 1.

Martyn will take Wilson and it should be a fairly even dual. Both are strong players but Wilson will beat Martyn if he gets to lead as he is damn fast for someone built like that. Cummings out is if anything bad for you as it means Martyn cant have a lazy "punch the ball away" day out as Wilson will give him a run for his money.
