Cunnington to Duryea

Was very sloppy of him. No duty of care towards the player on the ground. But 1 week seems a bit tough.

Problem is leaving the ground bleeding makes it hard to call it Low impact, so a fine was going to be a tough one to swing, even for the magicians in the MRP.
Yeah agree - he definitely went in too far, but I think it's fair to say he had no intent to hurt the bloke. To the letter of the laws it might be worth a week but a common sense test means it is a fine at worst.

In Summary:
MRP = Was it Careless? Did it hit him in the Head? Did Duryea leave the field?

Somehow they forgot the most important part - INTENT. He was charged under Rough Conduct - this is NOT an example of "Rough conduct"

Unlucky for Duryea, but he got a free out of it. Even that was arguable.

Ridiculous that Cunnington misses for that.

Stupid rule due to maxwells hobby of breaking rookies jaws in meaningless games

Also the threat of two games if challenged is gutless by the MRP they make any old shit up and hide behind that

Agree with everyone else calling it stupid. What is supposed to do, not contest the ball. When he sees Duryea has knocked the ball away he tries to slow down.

Contest the ball while also trying to avoid putting his knee in to someone's head.

He managed to knee 3 players in the head in a single game. Not a bad effort. The MRP penalised him for the most obviously avoidable one.

Yeah, that's exactly what this means. In a completely hyperbowl free way.

What is that? Like a Harold and Kumar kind of thing?

Unfortunately the MRP is a completely cynical exercise now. They decide it is either almost worth 1 or 100% worth 1 week. Once they make the latter decision they ensure that it is a 2 week suspension down on appeal. Anyone that isn't quite cynical enough to believe the AFL doing it's utmost to engineer the result they want need only look at the last few years of debacle brought on by Essendon.

You're surely not referring to him taking a hanger as kneeing someone in the head?

A guy got a week for kneeing someone in the head and sending him off the ground with blood coming from the wound.

It has nothing to do with Essendon or any other massive conspiracy.

If he had copped a fine would people have been upset?

All the MRP have said here is, dont run through someone on the ground. Try and avoid hitting them.

Its just a shame they didnt take Buddy to task when he cleaned up Edwards a few years back....

Just answer the question you squib. Or is a question "hyperbowl"?

2 awful decisions

1 by the MRP, the second by North to accept.

I am getting pissed off by the gutless clubs (all of them, mine included) refusing to challenge sanctions,

As such the MRP get emboldened and start creeping further and further so that any injury is punishable. Soon we will have a bloke suspended if he is running next to someone who tears a hamstring. "His duty of care was not to run so fast"

My club benefits from this - but it remains a crock of shit

Forget that Duryea was the bumbling spud who made contact below the knee and now we're suffering for it, but take a look at the record of cases where head high contact with blood drawn have been challenged and won. Then you'll realise why we didn't. Not worth the risk.

What was largely a 50/50 round 1 game has now tipped it in the Eagles favour, with a fit and in form Cunners in the stands.

The question the MRP may have asked itself was, did Cunnington do anything to avoid the collision?

Like what? You are running full tilt towards someone who you think you are going to have to tackle in another step or two. The opposing player then knocks the ball back the way you've come from. You stop as fast as you can and turn back towards the ball, unfortunately putting your leg too far towards that player and kneeing him in the head.

What was he supposed to do? Transform into a mole and burrow under the earth beneath Duryea?

It seems you are suggesting Cunnington made some choices, just not the welfare of his opponents face.

I'm suggesting that in that split second real-time, he did as anyone would do; he stopped and turned back for the ball. It was an accident. If you have a problem with what Cunnington did, you have no idea.
