Simpkin is interesting.

I would've thought with the interest in Delaney, Bruce and a young tall that he would be expendible. Re-signing him puts more weight on the idea of losing one or both of Fisher and Gwilt as that 3rd tall, midsize lock down player.

I reckon once we get a couple of Key defenders Tom Simpkin will have a break out year with the pressure released from him having to play on the oppositions best forwards etc.

I'm very happy for Simpkin! As the older HBFs move on, I think he'll be able to make his way into our top 22.

Also good for Jones, good to see that the club didn't turn on him for one indiscretion. He's perennially underrated IMO, and had a very good year on field.

Not overly happy with Jones - forgetting the whole dwarf incident, I think we would be a much better side if he wasn't able to crack the 22. Anyway if he is there as a back up for one more year and plays 5-10 games when injuries occur, I'm cool with that.

Stoked about Simpkin and TC...was worried the Simpkin was on the way out, but love the way he goes about it, hopefully an injury free run will see him play more.

TC - well he has massive guns, enough said.

Was pretty confident Simpkin would stay and I'm glad he is. At the very least he's a handy depth player which keeps guys like Dempster and Roberton off key forwards. Not sure he'll ever be best 22 with the need for flankers to be creators but maybe his physicality makes up for It.

I'm not Jones' biggest fan but it looks like we're going to be losing a fair bit of experience so might be worth keeping him around for another year. Our young mids aren't ready to play 22 games yet and it's probably better if they force him out. Will be his last year anyway IMO.

You only do that by playing your best football. Kids who fall into games because theres no one better will never develop as well as someone who pushes themselves hard.

that iwas what was said by in the Reiwoldt / Watters interview. next year they won't be gifting games as much to kids, they will have to esrn it. therefore they will be pushed to take on jones.

Me personally have a lot of time for Ledger as a footballer, unfortunately I don't think the club thinks the same & reckon he may be gone. Hopefully it doesn't happen coz reckon it just might just come back and bite us on the arse.<(oops can I say that here?)

Dwarf stuff aside, from a purely footballing perspective Jones did more than enough this year to gain another year. I thought he was excellent for us and took his game to another level with improved disposal so am pretty happy to see him re-signed.

Simpkin will work really well I feel if we get some bigger bodies down back so really happy that we kept him. We also keep our hard nut from Colac quota going: Bakes and now Simpkin.

Jones will be 30 next season. Played well this year but he's in that stop gap age and thats probably the only reason why he's re-contracted.

The re-signing of jones may be an indicated of the dal santo situation. Losing 2 experienced mids would hurt alot. Even if he isnt an A grade player u cant question his effort which we need to show to the next group of mids.

Just keep him away from anything that makes a flame.
