Right now we have Pick #9 in the draft. Doubt that will be enough to land a big fish through trading

Come on Essendon hurry up and sign McKenna and Zaharakis. Goddard gets an automatic 1 year extension due to a games trigger in his existing contract this week. With those 3 signed up can focus on trade targets as the remaining OTC players are depth/role players.

Looks like a fairly big list turnover this year for us I think, with at least 7-8 off the senior list.

I expect given that we will look for some mature age recruits and take about 5 in the draft.

Retire

Stanton, Brent
Watson, Jobe - confirmed
Hocking, Heath
Kelly, James - confirmed

Delist
Merrett, Jackson
Morgan, Alex
Eades, Yestin
McKernan, Shaun

Maybe 1 year
Bird, Craig
Long, Jake (probs delist and re-rookie though)

1 year
Green, Josh
Baguley, Mark
Howlett, Ben

2+ years
McKenna, Conor
Zaharakis, David

Re-Rookie

(got bored at work)

As far as i can tell right now as it stands we have 16 players who are not contracted for 2018, and its very likely 10 or 11 of them will be gone;-

5 safe;-

Draper, Sam

Baguley, Mark

Green, Josh

McKenna, Conor

McNiece, Ben

A couple who are borderline;-

Bird, Craig

Howlett, Ben

5 likely to be shown the door;-

Long, Jake

McKernan, Shaun

Hocking, Heath

Merrett, Jackson

Morgan, Alex

4 players who definitely are gone;-

Stanton, Brent

Eades, Yestin

Watson, Jobe

Kelly, James

It's interesting to look at our list and say, I don't think there's one player who is superfluous to our needs that we can trade (That has any trade value).

For mine, I don't think we will be adding too many players to those already confirmed.

Confirmed: Watson, Kelly, Standon and Eades (Rookie)
I suspect, Two of three (Hocking, Bird and Howlett) will be kept, simply for depth.

With these confirmed retirings/delistings, the age demographic of our list will shift significantly and as some have mentioned previously - if there's any injuries to those in our best 22-24, the players that are to come in are in there first season or two. I see this as a risk for next year, as we won't have the depth to cover substantial injuries. That said, if we did nail a few of these picks, it could become our strength come 2019-2020.

Having a look at some of our key players, I'd assume the club would be aiming for a tilt at something special while Hurley, Hooker, Zaharakis, Bellchambers are still around - this group is basically our spine, with a few younger additions.

Hurley - 27
Hooker - 28
Zaharakis - 27
Bellchambers - 28
Heppell - 25
Zach Merrett - 21
Joe D - 23
Andy McGrath - 19

Looking at the ages of these players, you would assume it would be between (2018-2020).

So, I went through our best 22 players, and I think there's a strong room for improvement in these areas

1-2 : Strong, contested and line breaking midfielders (there's not many of these around).
1: Running HBF
1: FWD/MID

I also wanted to say that I don't necessarily agree with all the calls that we need a BIG inside mid, JPK is one of those sure, but overall the Swans beat us up with their intent to attack the football, it wasn't Zach Merett's and the mosquito fleet's smaller stature that cost us.

Yeah I'd put McNiece in the borderline category
He was ok on debut. Though got raved about on here.

But really. The blokes depth, it was a cheeky move to get him as a cat B but he's not a world beater. Is there any point?

I spose I answered my question when I called him depth.

Unless we have 3 Cat B signings lined up I don't see why we'd get rid of him. Not much point unless his neck issues basically ruin any chance of him getting a run at it.

All the out of contract players we needed to retain we have.
Now Dodoro can solely focus on landing some talent via the draft or other clubs.

Cal Twomey said:
List changes: The Bombers have already had three retirements – Jobe Watson, James Kelly and Brent Stanton – with more likely, while rookie Yestin Eades was delisted earlier in the year.

More retirements likely?

With Baguley and Goddard getting triggers for 2018, who else might retire? Hocking, Howlett? Bird may or may not be out of contract, if he is he's the next eldest uncontracted player.

Done, although Duckworth there are a lot of contract end years in the same colour scheme now. :p
The colour scheme is as follows: Final year of contract, 1 year to go, more than a year.

I am currently investigating the option of including a bar/graphical representation as previously posted by lysp but haven't decided on a final option yet.
