I've previously been a critic of Nicholls - would far prefer Currie as #1 - even though he's played very few games. If we got Witts he would take the Currie role IMO. Maybe it is better that we have 2 very different type of ruckman - as we only play one at a time.Becomes a bit of a trade off - greater ruck craft, physical presence and more likely to take a contested grab up forward v a ruck that is more mobile and better on the deck

However if Nicholls asks for top dollar salary wise - happy to see him go. (Providing we can get Witts -who must be a target of a lot of other clubs).
Forget Sydney they have Ruckmen for sale - Brisbane is looking to replace West (though 2 ruck role) Fremantle looking to replace Sandilands . Port Adelaide have no ruckmen at all ... yes we can throw in a good draft pick - but it's not a guarantee of a sale.If Witts is looking for an opportunity to play you would think Bulldogs, Sydney, Tigers and us would be his best chances.
How many would be prepared to spend a relatively early pick to get him is the question. Pies need picks to get their father-son's in Brown and Daicos.

Agreed.Just thinking if you look at premiership ruck men since the early 2000s it is the bash and crash monsters that teams need - your Keating, Lade, Ottens, Cox (had skill as well), Jolly, Mumford, McEvoy/Hale. I'm not sure if I could see Nicholls in the same light as those guys, he strikes me more as a finesse ruck man like Josh Fraser.
So thoughts on current contract status:
Gone: Russell, Tape, Stanley
On the cusp of being gone: Cameron
Possible trade (club initiated): Matera, Shaw, Schade
Possible trade (player initiated): Prestia, JOM, Nicholls, Leslie
So 4 players likely to be delisted and 7 players that for various reasons could be traded. You would think that they would only be getting 5-6 new players (draftees/experienced players traded in) and potentially a couple of rookie upgrades between Davis, Joyce or McPherson.
Ok, I'll run with it.So thoughts on current contract status:

Boner warning whoo whoooOk, I'll run with it.
So we give Prestia to the Bombers with Melb's pick(5-9) for pick one (as per Iva's suggestion). Pick up Mcluggage, Ainsworth, Bowes and Scheer in the draft. Use the money we were going to pay Prestia to somehow entice Hurley up here. We keep JOM on a one year deal, Keep Leslie and Nicholls hopefully.
Matera, Shaw and Schade - trade out for whatever we can get...
So next year's team is this,
Saad May Mckenzie
KK Hurley Martin
Rosa Swallow Sexton
Ablett Lynch McCluggage
Day Wright Ainsworth
Nicholls Bowes O'Meara
Miller Ah Chee Harbrow Hall
Bit young with the three 18/19 year olds in there, but you get the idea.
First tier depth; Leslie, Thompson, Lemmens
Mal, Fiorini Lonergan Scheer,
Davis Garlett Rischa(inj) Willis, Curry, Joyce. Geez that's pretty much everyone!
Others; Grant, Schoenfeld, Mcpherson,
What about Russell and Lemmens, I think they need to go even if they are still contractedGeez that would be amazing if they could pull that off!
How do we get both McLuggage and Ainsworth? Is this conditional on no one bidding on Bowes before our our second top ten pick at 4/5?Ok, I'll run with it.

Yeah, under this scenario we have pick one ( mcluggage). That means we only have to avoid Bowes being bid on at 2 or 3. There are plenty of draft boards that have Bowes rated below pick 3, practically all of them... I would say Freo owe us a favour after the Bennell trade and I reckon we might have a Friendly understanding with Brisbane as well. I agree with OB about getting Hurley up here but its not totally out of the question... Surely Hurley can see the possibilities and he looks like a surfer for sure...How do we get both McLuggage and Ainsworth? I'm hopeful that's the case but was listening to the Road to the Draft podcast this morning and apparently Brisbane are very keen on Bowes at pick 2?Yeah, under this scenario we have pick one ( mcluggage). But if not we have Rory and Leslie and maybe we go hard for another free agent... I reckon we have dollars after losing Dixon, Bennell, possibly Prestia... Matera would be on decent coin as well if we indeed lose him too.
Thanks for the update SG, I will have a listen when I get a chance...I'm hopeful that's the case but was listening to the Road to the Draft podcast this morning and apparently Brisbane are very keen on Bowes at pick 2?
And this is why I don't think they will bid, at some point the shoe is on the other foot so it's not really worth your while. Thanks for the update SG, I will have a listen when I get a chance...
This makes no sense to me, they know they won't get him, so they are just doing it to screw us which is fair enough if we couldn't to exactly the same thing back with Jacob Allison... it makes much more sense to have a little gentleman's agreement, that we don't bid on each other academy players... if It's not feasible to for us to reach for Allison this year I'm sure we will get our revenge at some point...
He is a stick thin receiver, and we have more of them than Kings crossRussell is probably gone, but I have all the time in the world for Lemmens, hard at the ball, hard at the man. At the very least he is handy depth.
Cant kick, and coming out of the half back line that is to much of a liability. Hawthorn have shown that you need atleast 20 players on the field who can nail a target.Lemmens, hard at the ball, hard at the man.
Yeah Lemmens won't be going anywhere rocket loves players like him, give everything and puts his body on the line for the team, it's also only his 3rd year so all the people bagging him pull your head inRussell is probably gone, but I have all the time in the world for Lemmens, hard at the ball, hard at the man.
