Guys the rumours come from Barrett. The same guy that said Dave Swallow was gone last trade period before he re-signed and that we would have a mass exodus.

my guess is he has a wheel of off contract players and next to it a wheel of Vic clubs. He spins both and whatever it lands on is his rumour for the day
Gold

To be fair Damo did report on the draftees signing extensions, which must have killed him to write given it goes against pretty much everything he has ever said about us. It probably left a bad taste in his mouth so he had to chuck something out as quick as he could to restore order.

All I got from this is that Maysie is gonna get paid . Which he absolutely should.

Im still waiting on none of our players to re-sign ever again while the Coch is in charge.

And a spoke that says "HAVE A TUG :)" that it seems to land on far too often to be a coincidence.

So after unsuccessfully trying to offload Matera onto Essendon, Carlton & the Eagles last year, he has finally flicked his on switch.

If he continues this form throughout the year, do we offer a contract extension or trade at his maximum worth?
Extend, extend, extend....
We have put up with a lot from Fish but at his best he is beyond handy... a link up guy with great skills who can sniff a goal like noone else... dare i say a cross between Beams and Betts... haha definitely not but a very very good player all the same...
Imagine enduring the 80% crud he has served up thus far and then trading him and watching him kick 50 a year at Essendon!
On a completely unrelated train of thought, haven't heard from OB11 lately... Where u at OB??

Extend

Took a while and maybe worth waiting at least a couple more games but have to at least give him an offer for turning it around imo, valuable asset as he is now, if he wants to leave so be it...

Wait and see IMO, see how he is travelling when the bye comes around.

I'm here Greendogg, lurking in the shadows since Matera decided to turn it on.

Can't deny some truths:

1. His last 2 games have been real good - saw him last week in person and was impressed, that goal he kicked from the boundary was due to his hussle to force the OOTF
2. We need a small player who knows where the goals are and can apply pressure, link up play and have good skills
3. He has needed to be 're-programmed' to give more pressure and not just ducking out the back to get goals

My thoughts are not to extend just yet and give him a chance to keep rolling and proving his worth. If 7-8 rounds to go he keeps this up then look to extend, but only on another 2 year deal on reasonable money to keep him on edge.

If he wants to leave for a longer deal or more money then trade him at his highest value as a Matera who wants to stay comfortable and lazy is not the Matera we need.

So right now who do people think we won't renew for next season:

IMO it is time for some of the experienced players to go that are not best 28 on list going forward

- Shaw
- Hallahan
- Currie (unless Nicholls gets traded)
- Grant
- Willis (rookie him)
- Rischatelli (can you rookie him if we need to open up a list spot to bring in a senior player via trade?)

Players that may leave via trade:

- Ablett
- Matera (if we decide to sell high/ his asking price is too high)

I hope Lonergan and McKenzie if he can play more than 10 games get new contracts this year but

I'm not as familiar with the rookies performances. The players I would consider turning over are:

- Ryan Davis (was good last year but at his age (28 in June) if you are not top 28 on list you are in danger)
- Brooksby (is helped in that he is so versatile to fill in weaknesses down back and in the ruck and is consistent with his NEAFL performances)
- Loersch (is a tall forward so needs time but is there enough there to keep persisting with? especially if we end up drafting another key forward)

I would consider upgrading Darcy MacPherson if his good performances continue

Assuming we lose 6 off the senior list and a net of 2 off the rookies list I would look to:

- Draft 3 players in national draft (including Crossley) using top 30 picks
- Trade in 2 senior players (e.g. 3rd tall forward and 3rd tall back)
- Upgrade MacPherson
- Rookie 1 senior players with AFL experience (e.g. Brandon Ah Chee) and a local kid (e.g. Dawson)

Mark Stevens Drops An Update On The Steven May Contract Situation
(Image: Getty)

Mark Stevens has said his mail is that Gold Coast co-captain Steven May is likely to remain at the Suns beyond this season.

The star defender is yet to sign a deal with the Suns beyond 2017 and has commanded plenty of interest.

"Yeah, Steven May is the other big one," Stevens said on Triple M's pre-game coverage of Port Adelaide/Hawthorn on Thursday.

"(He) hasn't signed, of course, (and he's) out of contract at the end of the year.

"Bit of talk about St Kilda and Collingwood (chasing him)."

Despite that, Stevo suggested the Suns are confident May will stay.

"My mail is that Gold Coast are pretty comfortable that they'll keep him," he said.

"He's got a few issues off the park family-wise that he's just sorting through. Once that's done I think he will stay a Sun - and they really need him to stay, because he's a ripping guy (and) a good leader of that footy club.

Great news thanks for that

Shame it's probably going to be a rough divorce then.

Sad situation for him but we're clearly ****** if we just take another hit. He has been well-compensated, don't think the club owes him anything.

If he rips up the final year of his contract then it shouldn't be too messy. I don't expect to get much in return. It will be up to him signing on at Geelong on a lot less.

If Ablett was to rip his contract up. I would have no issue with him heading out the door. However, if he wants to play on, I don't want to be paying his wages to play down in Geelong.
This.
I actually don't have an issue if he really decides he needs to go home. We need to learn to play without him anyway. Just don't expect us to pay your contract if you aren't going to honour it yourself.

Make him see out his contract, we get nothing for him from the Cats and he will potentially win them a flag along with Danger and ducker Selwood.
Why should we help out the Cats we already gave them Smith for nothing and to give Ablett his fairy tale for nothing in return would be the height of stupidity.

If they want him and he wants them then make it worth our while or **** right off
