Surely our training ground needs to be reviewed.

If it persists across multiple high performance teams, then something is wrong.

I don't have the facts, but it feels like a lot of our injuries don't happen on gameday.
They did review it and found nothing but they’re resurfacing the entire thing out of an abundance of caution.

It has been reviewed twice and one of the ovals has been resurfaced and is yet to be used so far this pre season.
As far as injuries not happening in games.
Edwards ACL game
Bryan ACL game
Martin ACL game
Draper achilleas . ame
Ridley has gone down a few times in games.
Langford soft tissue. Game.
Cox concussion. Game.
Hayes ACL. Game.
Reid hamstring. Game.
A few had repeat injuries at training but nearly all the injuries have their origin in games.
I must have misremembered

Well it is outside the realms of possibility. The programs are run through with all the heads in the football department.
You can take that to 5 banks.
The rest is not circle work. It is actually fact.
One bloke with a history of soft tissue injuries is injured and another maybe has an issue.
When you're repeating yourself, it's circle work.

Then there is this
Sorry to intrude, but it is possible that Inness is following the same method as when he commenced with us. Pushing them (the players) hard to build durability and resilience. Our perma injured stayed that way to start with (picking up injuries/having setbacks in the preseason), but once they got back onto the park, there was some improvement through 2024 and we had a really good year this year with not many soft tissue injuries at all.

He knows his stuff… but will be rough going for a while, especially with the media gleefully reporting on every ailment.

Am disappointed we have lost him (Inness) (shakes fist! 😆).

All the best. They’ll come good 👍

Think I read on social media from a Hawks supporter that the first year Innes was on board, they had a seriously long injury list but in the second year came good and by year three was one of the better injury prevention programs.

It soundsl ike 2026 might be a tough year for guys like Ridley and Langford but 2027, once the S&C team have figured out the work loads they can manage then perhaps, just maybe they can have some fulfilling years.

The one off or impact injuries lets take a breath as just shit luck. Nothing you can do except hindsight revisionist bullshit we're all guilty of wanting to do as a coping mechanism,

One post above. Look up.;)

re you really shocked Ridley or Langford are injured ?
Innes does not have a magic wand.
No and it does sound like getting them to do the work, so they are more durable....some will get injured in the process.
we don't need to nurse them through the season now.

Ridley and Langford and parish have been in a injury comeback injury loop for a while.
Touch wood Parish is over his calf issues.

My best guess right now re injured/managed players its something like this;-

Martin - season
Hayes/Jones - 6 weeks
Edwards/Setters/Kako - 4 weeks

Bryan/Ridley/Perkins/Robey - 2 - 3 weeks

Am I missing anyone?

Not too bad considering 90% are carry overs from last year.

With a ‘minor’ hamstring you would expect Kako to get a couple of weeks of solid training leading into round 1. With 5 on the bench and the standard of his preseason you’d fully expect he should be in the round 1 team.

Being an explosive style of player, I wouldn't want him back until he's 100% fit and able to hit top speeds without concern. We've been bitten with poor injury management for too long to risk it IMO

Well, unless it is a EFC Hamstring!! they're normally 8-10!!

Hence why I’ve gone out of my way to say ‘’minor’’. If it’s truly ‘minor’ he will be fine. If it’s Essendon ‘minor’, he’s done for the year.

Have I missed something with Jones. Still out for six weeks?

eth-dog Setterfield as TBC. You must be fuming.
I mean, it's not as if many people predicted that this would be the case.

The thing is we could have signed him right up until yesterday at 5. We didn't need to bring him in in December without looking at other options.

We had 2 and a bit months to sign him from when we did until the (admittedly pushed back) deadline. Just to see where he was tracking for the entire pre-season.

I was at the Bombers dinner yesterday so I actually have some inside information to contribute.

Ridley is still walking with a limp so I think the timeline that was circulated for his return is underselling how long he'll be out.

Kako wasn't as firm as I'd hoped when it came to how he was feeling physically. If I was a betting man I'd still say he'll get up for round one, but it's not as much of a lock as the board seems to think.

Those are the main two non long-term injuries to best 22 players at the moment I think.

Edit: they actually released the Kako information. Didn't see the update in this thread. Still think based on limping this long after the injury that the Ridley timeline is fairly off the mark.

Edwards, setterfield were avoidable as signed early. I still dont understand why. Choosing to go into a season down 2 spots for fringe afl standard players is confusing. What's the best case scenario with either.

Ridley i get as his upside is significant but we also could have bitten the bullet. At least 2 of our injury list this year has nothing to do with high performance/s and c.
