Not a lot of love for the defenders in Alex Pearce, Liam Jones and Steven May who have all been very good for a very long time.

If we are listing Tim Kelly, we probably should also include Maurice Rioli and Polly Farmer.

If listing at their best right now - anyone who watched Kossie Pickett this week would have him at number one. Problem is we have no idea what he will do next week = and how long the suspension will be.
Are we talking peak ability or consistently good performance? The two are different. Kossie at his best is really good, but just isn't consistently enough. Can rely on someone like Ah Chee most weeks.

Pickett isn't consistent on a game to game basis but I'd say he's pretty consistent on a yearly basis. He's kicked more than 35 goals in each of his past 4 seasons. That's pretty good for a small forward who isn't even 24 yet.

In no particular order.
Rankine
NWM
JHF
Bobby
Kozy

Then maybe the likes of May, Kelly, Bolton, ect.
Lawson Humphries coming with a bullet. Like his game very much.

Top 3 i think are fair to have over Shai. Bobby i would argue strongly and Kosi is 50/50 but probably Kosi as his pace and ability to go into the midfield probably separates him.

Current May and current Kelly, no way.

On current form I'd have:

1. Rankine
2. NWM
3. JHF
4. Long
5. Simpkin

Honourable mentions to Bobby, Amon, Pearce, Humphries.
No ****ing way would I have Simpkin ahead of Amon.

He was the very reason we almost snatched the game yesterday.

Yes he's having a fine season Amon

Every time he got ball half back I'd wince because he's so perfect with his.passing
Barely rates a mention amongst Hawks supporters, but he’s a such a good user.

I'd swap it around after the Easter Monday game. Amon was electric in the last quarter.

He was one of the very few players on the ground for either side who could consistently hit a target.

Simpkin has been great this season though. Probably one of the very few Norf players who have actually improved rather than regressed in 2025. Has made a good fist of that half forward role.

Simkin also had a great Indigenous All Stars game.

So with JHF added into the list now, for me the new grouping would be
1. Rankine
2. NWM and JHF
4. Kelly and Simkin.

With regards to Kelly and all the players I have listed, their careers in totality count towards their ranking.
If Buddy was still playing I would have him in there as well, even though the end couple of years wernt at the same level as his peak. Buddy is still Buddy.

Was thinking who would be the top 5 current day indigenous Lads playing today.
Not sure how it stacks up with previous generations, so might be worth comparing.
For me it's these lads.
1. Izak Rankine is the best. The others I have clumped in together. I think NWM is the closest on potential.
Jy Simpkin
NWM
Charlie Cameron
Tim Kelly (In Form)

With regards to where they sit compared to previous generations, we are a long way back.
Does Kozzie Pickett play Golf?

23 touches and 2.3 goals per game plus a truck load of defensive pressure.

Kossie was in the short list with Stengle. The problem small forwards have is that they generally arnt as consistent or have as much influence as a midfielder does.
Rankine is ahead of those two in my eyes as he is a better small forward than them if he soley played in that position, but he has also been dominating in the midfield as well. His ability to go into the centre bounces and also be an elite goal kicking forward puts him above everyone else.
I don't think anyone is taking either of those two above Rankine with a straight face.

stats suggest otherwise. Pickett has kicked significantly more goals than Rankine at every stage of their careers. Rankine has only played heavy midfield time this year.

Midfielders are dime a dozen. Jy Simpkin? Like what the actual. The guy is having a career season this season so respect to him for that but for many years he was barely AFL calibre. He was a plodder that had average skills and no point of difference.
