Current Top 5 Indigenous Players Today?

Looking for clarification, I don’t think it is clear at all and ambiguous. Who is a long way back? Compared in what way to previous generations?

Current crop compared to say McLeod, Goodes etc etc. Rankine and Pickett might get there, but there does seem a quality gap. That’s what I immediately thought the poster meant.

I think its silly to start a topic on the main board simply to talk up someone from your own team. You have a board dedicated to fappery like this.
The post was about not just him. The fact that he is the best is by the by.
I didn't know there was a rule that you could only start a thread on the main board if it doesn't involve your team or a player from your team.
If my post was to pump up Rankine, who doesn't need any pumping up from me, I would have titled it "Izak Rankine is the best indigenous player today" and left it at that.

There were people who didn't even have Izak in their top 5 and I didn't challenge them on their point of view.
It's subjective.

If you don't like any posts or threads that don't highlight Hawthorn, or Hawthorn players, maybe it's you that should stay off the main board?

So with JHF added into the list now, for me the new grouping would be
1. Rankine
2. NWM and JHF
4. Kelly and Simkin.

With regards to Kelly and all the players I have listed, their careers in totality count towards their ranking.
If Buddy was still playing I would have him in there as well, even though the end couple of years wernt at the same level as his peak. Buddy is still Buddy.
I don't think you have been watching West Coast.

Kelly has been so ordinary, he was dropped!

Would be lucky to make a top 10!

It's alright I'll talk up mine who would you rather Rankine or JHF?

Do I have to pick one? I dont know if I'd choose either. Rankine probably replaces MacDonald in our team but not Moore or Watson. JHF is replacing Nash because no chance he is better than Newcombe.

I probably enjoy watching NWM the most. The problem is his team is terrible so knowing his potential is tough. Its like comparing Sheezel in the worst team in the comp to Naicos in a team 8 or 10 spots better.

Karl Amon is the league leader for Meters Gained this year. In the age of dinky handpasses, and kicks backward, this is a very important stat.

Given his deadly left foot puts most of those kicks to a teammates advantage (as opposed to log bombs), he is safely on this list

So I take it Liam Ryan isn't that great?

Seen him miss 3 difficult(ish) kicks at the weekend, but would have thought he'd be in the debate. Though clips on youtube can be deceiving.

I cheated a little bit as ranking players against each other when they play such different roles seems impossible. I went through the All Star squad and picked 5 players to kick off a list build:

  • Jason Horne-Francis
  • Izak Rankine
  • Alex Pearce
  • Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera
  • Shai Bolton

Obviously I have a huge amount of love for Bobby Hill so he gets an honorable mention. Kozi Pickett and Lawson Humphries would both be very welcome.

Why are so many people putting Rankine at number 1? Flashy, skillful, potential potential potential, but the guy is 25 (today in fact), and the best he's achieved is 4th in a clubs best and fairest in always bottom 8 sides. He really doesn't have the runs on the board to be considered the best. Whilst I feel JHF aboriginal heritage seems tenuous, he is 3 years younger than Rankine, come runner up in the bnf in a top 4 side, polled 16 and 19 Brownlow votes in 2nd and 3rd season of league football. Whilst many see Rankine as the second coming of Eddie Betts and or Andrew Mcleod, he's done SFA to justify that. His best years are in front of him but he'd want to get a riggle on to legitamize the hype.

As I said, it's not on current form but the player himself.
If I made this list in the last year of Buddy's career I would have still had him as number 1.
If that’s the case Bolton as an AA and
Club leading goal kicker should be on your list
A couple flags with the tigs doesn’t hurt his case either.

Rankine averages more possessions, more goals, more tackles, more clearances, more marks and more contested possessions than Watson.
Watson is a great player, but Rankine has him covered on every line.

Huh? His season last year when he wasn't injured or suspended was top line. His season so far this year has also been top line.
He has gone from being a small forward to an elite genuine mid. The biggest issue the club has with him is he is so valuable as a forward, and a mid, that they don't know how best to utilise him. The fact that we need two of him, or even three if we could, says everything.

He'll light up in the Showdown now you've said that.

Rankine was elite last year and had a better season than JHF. If you're talking future than JHF is the obvious choice, but nothing wrong with Rankine leading currently.

I think the more egregious JHF disrespect in this thread was the Hawks fan saying that there’s no way in which JHF is better than Newcombe
