Rankine averages more possessions, more goals, more tackles, more clearances, more marks and more contested possessions than Watson.
Watson is a great player, but Rankine has him covered on every line.

A guy 6 years old does a better job? Unheard of. Compare the same stage of careers and Watson is miles ahead.

Then you can't compare a player playing in what was a poor team like GC under Dew with injuries interpreting his ability to train and play, to one playing football in a good Hawthorn side with no injury setbacks.
If you want to go that far back, let's compare their Jr careers as well. Rankine was the youngest player to ever play seniors in the SANFL.
Rankine was twice AA in the U18 National Champs and was the only under ager in his first year.
Watson was only AA once.
As it stands today, Izak is the better player with the added ability to also play in the midfield as well.
You said that Rankine wouldn't take Watson's spot, and as it stands today, Izak is putting out the better stats.
2025, Izak has more Disposals, more marks, and has kicked 7 goals 6 points, while Watson has kicked 8 goals and 5 points.
So Rankine has had as many scoring shots when playing the majority of his time in the midfield.

Rankine was elite last year and had a better season than JHF. If you're talking future than JHF is the obvious choice, but nothing wrong with Rankine leading currently.

Honestly you would he happy with either.

When playing Port, the 2 players i worry about are JHF & Butters.
