Should some games in the VFL be curtain raisers for AFL games?

As someone who doesn't go to many VFL games, but watches them as often as i can on ABC, i reckon it would be great exposure for these players to play in curtain raisers before AFL games.

Opinions??

There are curtain raisers, A few Geelong games have been curtain raisers to AFL games, and I think there was a Tasmania game as a curtain raiser to the Hawthorn v Kangaroos game in Tassie. But still I agree there should be more.

no no no no curtain raisers are not a good idea, the perception of the vfl just being a reserves comp would be enforced if there were more curtain raisers as vfl games. maybe some geelong games could be when the afl team plays at skilled but i think its a bad idea for otehr games as the teams have their own separate grounds and supporters and history. can u imagine sandy not playing at trevor barker beach oval for a home game against port at the G or the dome? no way.

I don't like the idea, but I think it would be the best way to increase the leagues popularity would be curtain raisers, better media coverage and increased salaray cap. An overhaul of the teams and structure would be nice also.

Thats pretty good.

What would you suggest as the best options for overhauling the teams and structure.

Well we should make it more like the SANFL - Every team has a reserves and under 18 side. Have each AFL team with 1 alignment with 12/10 rule. Have a few more stand alone teams, with maybe a Gippsland team, a team in the Murray River region, another Tassie side maybe and a couple more from Melbourne.

Can't say I dissadgree with much of that.

The U18 system has current alignments, but I agree that a better process would be to strip it out completely, and put the money in to the VFL and play as an Under 19 (preferably) competition with a proper process.

Yeah and allowing the under 18/19 players to play seniors and reserves to get them some game time against older and stronger blokes, which effectively gives them a slight head start in terms of their devolpment.
