Cushy uni jobs for scungey uni students

Seriously consider working at crown if you need a job. The hours might be odd, depending on your 'swing cycle, but it's super easy to get a job. I was a roulette croupier for 6 months first year out of school. I had enough fun doing it and training is paid. They'll also feed you two meals per shift once you hit the floor.

If you can speak English you're almost guaranteed a job. Staff turnover is so high they're always hiring but the intake is maybe only monthly or 6 weeks.

My experience was some years ago now though

Very interested in this, have applied through Crown Careers website. Any place where you can apply in person, if you can?

Interesting, but must be hard to take when you're seeing the same faces or the absolute pissheads coming in and throwing it all away. I could imagine walking out of those bright lights and yellowness into 5am darkness to be weird too... oddly serene though... What was the roster system like?

I liked the bright lights and noises that came alogn with working at the casino tbh. You become friendly with some of the regulars and I had not guilt taking peoples money. they know full well what they are getting in to. It was never really an issue for me driving home after all that either, just another night shift. at the time we had 2 month rosters. 1200-2000 and 2000-0400.

in person i'm not sure. i did it online and then probably didnt get a call back for 4-6 weeks saying come for an interview in another 2 weeks. then i did the interview and probabyl started training a few weeks after that. it was a long process but you get a job with at least 3-4 8+ hour shifts a week. seems good for a uni student i would have thought.

having said all that, my exp was 5-10 years ago. i don't think it will have changed too drastically though.

working in a bar isn't too bad, unlike the restaurant side of hospitality people are generally more courteous when it comes to their drinks. Pay is decent, and you can clock up some big hours over the weekend if you don't mind giving up an occasional friday or saturday night. Learning how to mix cocktails is probably the most difficult part, and even then that's good fun. Stocktake and drunk people can be a pain, but pretty cruisy most the time.

Not sure how many others have done it. But a couple of mates did warehouse/forklifting, think a forklift ticket is around 450.

I've just started full time uni again this year, and realised it goes swimmingly with my cushy full time job. And my boss is being really accommodating, making my job cushier, and I'm studying at work. While getting paid. And earning like... a lot. And I get a student card to get discounts everywhere. I feel like such a cheat.

Jobs at the likes of Woolies/Coles are absolute gold mines if you can land them. Had a battle doing other scrappy jobs for a while.

The penalty rate loss is in a couple months will lower things but still tremendous pay especially if your over 18

That's awesome
What are you studying and what sort of work do you do ?

I'm studying law, doing a Juris Doctor. And I work in training in aviation.
That's really cool (and an interesting combination!) , all the best :)
Working full-time whilst studying (I did medicine) wasn't an option for me, but can't complain as I had a scholarship/lived at home anyway (so the money I got from casual work/tutoring was more than enough to cover my expenses/lifestyle)

It's a ridiculous workload that I've got, but I moved out of home plenty of years ago, so I need to pay a lot of expenses along the way.

Grats on the scholarship! That would be sooooo nice at the moment but I found there wasn't many around for postgrad law stuff.
