Yes IPS are closing the gap in regards to the GTG response time (ghosting), but as a general rule TN are better for gaming for a novice making a first time monitor choice.
Most TN panels range from 2ms to 7ms with probably 75% rated at 5ms.
IPS panels range from 5ms out to 16ms+ with probably 75% rated at 5ms.
Better picture is debatable. Resolution is the same, pixel pitch is the same, pixel density is the same, colour reproduction and viewing angle is the only advantage. Read more reviews and see how many times an IPS anti glare coating is mentioned as a con.....
It is simply not wise to say IPS is definitively better than TN period. Each has a place.
I'm not saying they are unsuitable, as each option has pros and cons. There is every chance that I will be gaming on a 2560x1440 IPS panel in the next 18-24 months, graphics horsepower allowing.....

Hey guys, got a bit of a dilemma that I'm sure the smart guys here in BF land can provide advice with
I need to upgrade my Mobo, the only problem is that my CPU is LGA 1156 (which is now obsolete). The annoying thing is that my processor still works fine (Intel Quad core i7 860 @2.8ghz).
So basically I'm left with two options here;
1. Buy a new motherboard but that also means i'll need to fork out for a new processor.
2. Try and find an old LGA1156 Mobo somewhere like Ebay, but that will only last so long but I'm thinking I'm probably better off just getting the upgrade over with now..?
If you have the money then you may as well upgrade both (bear in mind you'll probably need new RAM too). But if you don't have much of a budget and you're happy with your CPU then ebay would be your best bet, I'd suggest the overclockers.com.au classifieds forum but you need to be a member for 90 days before you get access.
