I disagree with that, given Zuthrie is taking over from Stewart. Cam was never even close to being a Stewart type player when he was in the backline. He could lockdown on players or be more of a Touhy/Duncan style neat rebounder. But he wasn't an aerial/contested interceptor.

Exactly. Aerial ability was about as far from Cam's thing as anything. Surprised to hear the idea that in his prime he could do the role Zach does currently.

Im so impressed by Zac Guthrie and I'll put my hand up as one who wasn't convinced early days but I'm still surprised at this comparison.

I suppose it depends on how you're assessing it. If Zuthrie continues being the dependable performer that he currently is, then maybe you'd argue he had the more consistent career but the best of Cam is better than Zac.

Both became into fabulous players for us after a long development. Cam showed much more potential earlier but was erratic, particularly in confidence with disposal. Zach was the more amazing transformation- was almost ‘overnight’, with that game in Tassie (in 2021?) where went from showing few attributes to almost BOG, including with 5 or 6 intercept marks.

C guthrie was like Samson, as soon as he chopped his mane he lost his strength. He went from looking like a wild man to a junior accountant and lost all aura.

Zach returns this week to the ground where he made his debut - a draw with GWS at Sydney Showgrounds in 2017. Has come a long way since then.
