I'd rather Crawford. Cousins wont be the same.. mark my words. He is messed up.

2 absolute stars of the game that would have been regarded a lot closer to Buckley, Voss, Hird if not for how they behaved off the field. They both set the standard for hard running and preperation and reaped the benefits with 11 Top 10 Brownlow finishes between them.

Voted for Crawf simply for the fact that for a long time he was playing a lone hand in the Hawthorn midfield. For many years the WC midfield was regarded as the best, where Hawthorns was held together single handedly by Crawf yet he only ever had 3 years where he didn't average 20+ disposals for the year (and 1 was his debut year)

Not really, Cousins most of his career wasnt in a great team.

Cousins by the customary country mile. Watched him week in week out since his first game with the blue and gold. Awesome skills backed up with a massive heart for the game and never say die thirst for winning. He would run his guts out, puke, then get straight back out there and run some more.

Gonna break my heart to see that bloke run around in someone else's colours.

i'd take crawf any day of the week. his best was just as good and he kept it going longer. the only thing going against him is that his best was at a time when his club was crap and cuzz was at his prime when his team was the best in the land and had the best ruckman. even if they are level on playing ability, crawf being the heart and soul of the club along with his off-field attitude and ability to never get in trouble (apart from when he's having a bit of fun on TFS) makes him a much better servant to an afl club than cousins imo.

cuzzy because he puts his heart in the game(not to say crawf doesnt), and runs and works harder on the field than any other player.

You started off well, but the truth is that aside from '02 - '06, Cousins played in an ordinary side as well. In fact, by the time he was 20 he was more or less the Eagles' best player, and was winning games off his own boot thereafter as a lone hand in the midfield.

Besides, this has little bearing on how good they actually are. Leigh Mathews was better than Paul Kelly, though Paul Kelly's team was worse... Cousins playing well in the Eagles midfield is not a case of Cam Mooney looking like a good player with the Geelong midfield kicking the ball to him.

lol, off course you would, you're a Hawthorn supporter.

And you're the second Hawthorn supporter to argue the line that Crawf had it harder. Firstly, you're wrong. And secondly, it has little bearing when we are discussing players of this calibre. I might argue that Crawf looked better than he was because he stood out.

And another thing; Crawf might have played more games, but it doesn't mean he has been better for longer. Cousins has 6 AAs and Crawf has 4. Cousins would have had 7 mind you if he hadn't been suspended for having a drug problem. And in my humble opinion, Crawf hasn't played as well as he did in the 90s, over the course of an entire season in the '00s. In fact, for the last 3 or 4 years, he's been nothing like what he was before and up to the point when he won his brownlow.

For non-Hawthorn supporters, this poll is a no brainer.

At their peak it has to be Crawford.

Everyones saying Cousins because his peak season was in 2005.

Anyone old enough to remember 1999 with any clarity would say Crawford, he was awesome.

It is so obvious to know who was too young to remember 1999 because it is all the clowns saying cousins easily.

And in regards to all-australians, Crawford missed out on one in 2003 after finishing second in the brownlow, which still pisses me off.

Factor in Crawfords longevity and his positive influence on the club and imo he wins.

No, at their peak Cousins is equal if not better. He killed it in 05.

Cousins has been playing at an elite level for a long time, he won his first AA in 98 and his last (to date) in 06.

Crawford was good in 99, doesn't make him a better player. Over his (shorter) career, Cousins has been better clearly.

Positive influence on the club counts for precisely zero. Carey had a very negative influence on his club also.

Crawford's longevity? Cousins has played 70 less games but has achieved more.

7 times top 10 in the Brownlow, 6 AA jumpers, 4 club B&Fs, and he will still play for a few more years yet.

I always think this is a tough one. They're bloody difficult to split IMO. I probably lean toward Crawford.

Both champions.

LOL, you can talk yourself into it all you like by weighting irrelevant criteria such as having a positive influence on a club, and selectively remembering certain events - such as the '99 season; but at the end of the day mate, you're just another Hawthorn supporter on this thread that is voting for a Hawthorn player, despite the fact that he is losing the poll badly.

And to say "anyone who remembers the '99 season would say Crawford, because he was awesome", is completely ridiculous!! To extrapolate your reasoning to the extreme, I'll argue that Woewodin had a great season, once, a long time ago... Clearly a different case, but the principle stands.

Cousins has been a gun for a long time. His Brownlow win was far more recent than Crawf's, but he has had many seasons equally as good prior to this point. In fact, he was West Coast best player more or less from the age of 20, when he would win games off his own boot in an ordinary team. Though I guess you've forgotten that, eh? Isn't is just unforgiveable how people forget things eh Hawkas_01?

Cousins by some way on field. Crawford by some way off it.
Cousins is a freak of a player. Would be talked about in the same sentences as Hird, Bucks and Voss had he played in Melbourne.

There are a couple of things stopping us accurately comparing this;).

Both champions and both 'actually' nice guys off it. Yes, cocky, but still willing to give people the time of day. And they both like to have a 'good time'!!! Cousins for me.

love this bit.

Cousins also missed all australian that year and got the exact amount of votes as crawford. :thumbsu:

On the footy show I remember sam newman having a go at the aa team saying cousins should have got a spot.

Benny Cuz is pretty much the best the game has seen when at his peak. He beats Crawf by miles although Crawf is still a gun. Cousins is so good though I've been tempted to do something weird over some of his youtube videos.

Give in to temptation mate, it feels SO right.

Hmm, Crawf isnt even anywhere close in the poll.. does he really have what it takes to continue in '09? Just wondering.
