IMO a small fee and license number on the bike if it is used to ride around the streets is fine. Would mean cyclists would have some accountability if they ran red lights etc.

Apart from the jealous drivers stuck in peak hour traffic this affects nobody.

They are a ****ing nuisance.

If you want to use roads, follow the rules, its in everybody's best interest, its safer for them.
They should have to get a license allowing them to share the roads with cars and if they don't follow the road laws they face the same consequences as car drivers.

Couldn't agree more.

This was the point I was trying to make earlier.

We do face the same laws as motorists, but like most motorists we occasionally get away with breaking the law. Because there aren't enough cops and cameras.

Funny how motorists routinely speed and engage in acts of dangerous driving themselves, but become all holier-than-thou when a cyclist runs a red light at an empty pedestrian crossing

lol, why does anyone care when a cyclist goes through a red light at an empty crossing? It has exactly zero impact on you or anyone else.

The reason you hate it is you would rather cyclists were not on the roads at all so you could halve your concentration whilst driving.

The shit we put up with from cars is 400 times more than what cars and pedestrians put up with from cyclists.:rolleyes:

All road users - cars, trucks, buses, cyclists, pedestrians etc - are all guilty of stupid and dangerous behaviour. The majority do the right thing, but the small minority ruin it for everyone. I hate being behind trucks and vans because you can't see around them and this makes it hard to anticipate what is happening ahead. Pedestrians are just as bad as cyclists - they regularly cross roads without looking, when the light is not green for them, or ducking in between traffic but if a car or cyclists runs into them, the driver or rider will be in the wrong.

The only thing about cyclists that annoys me is police are catching drivers etc for doing the wrong thing but cyclists are ignored. Cyclists are not registered, and often don't carry an ID so police can't do anything to enforce the rules they should be obeying. As usual, the majority do the right thing but the ones who do the wrong thing give the rest a bad reputation.

Thats because you are a nuisance to all other road users

a nuisance to selfish people like you who would rather dominate the roads, swerve from lane to lane without checking blindspots or indicating etc. Sit in no standing lanes during peak hour traffic talking on their phones.

If you were a good driver then cyclists shouldn't bother you, unless, they do something stupid. But the majority of cyclists don't do stupid things because staying alive is in their best interests.

Ha, unfortunately the majority do, making the minority who do the right thing look bad as a result.

It's the Lance Armstrong wannabes that give me the shits. Particularly when they choose to ignore the perfectly good cycle paths on West Coast Highway that have been put there for their benefit and decide to ride 3-5 abreast on the road instead.

turn it up.

means the whole queue of cars needs to merge again to overtake them whilst they scoot up the inside and run red lights.

Try being in Adelaide in January. They ALL think they could be in the Tour Down Under.

I was driving down South Road in the morning and these three morons were doing their best - riding as hard as they could, I mean - to sit right on the arse of this truck. If the lorry had to suddenly stop these three absolute idiots would have gone right under the truck and probably been killed. The **** were they thinking?

If cyclists want the same rights as drivers and use the same roads they should adhere to the same laws as motorcyclists, or get off the road.

Is that because you run red lights and overtake stationary cars?

I only overtake the stationary cars as they are gridlocked. :D

If you must know I stopped for a GREEN light this morning and nearly got cleaned up from behind. All due to a cop car with the flashing lights on turning on a red arrow. Five cars went through infront of me.

But no car drivers ever break the law. They are registered.

Re:

There was this case in sydney where a group of 20 or so cyclists were hogging 2-3 lanes of the M5 at about 7am on a saturday morning. This pisses drivers right off every week and so one day this guy overtakes them and slams on his brakes creating absolute carnage behind him.

He was taken to court and everything but was let off... although his counterclaim regarding the cyclists paying for the damage to his rear bumper was also dismissed, which I thought was a kick in the teeth

Actually he was found guilty of not keeping wholly within the lane, negligent driving and not supplying particulars after an accident.

I don't particularly care if drivers like me or hate me on my bike. But to take it to the next step and use a car as a weapon is a low blow.

Ahh ok.

Well the bloke said his car backfired and he accidentally put it into park, causing his car to come screaming to a halt. The reason he drove away was because the mob of angry cyclists was surrounding his car.

"The magistrate, Chris Clisdell, gave Bakr the benefit of the doubt yesterday, fining him $1200 after finding him guilty of failing to stay within his lane, negligent driving and failing to supply particulars at an accident. Mr Clisdell said that on Bakr's version of events the level of negligence was low."

So it was a bit of a slap on the wrist.

Q. An at fault cyclist slams into my car and causes a reasonable amount of damage, does his third party insurance cover me?

Stop whingeing about imaginary things.

Just whinge about things that actually happen.

Every time anyone whines about cyclists they have to mention all the imaginary stuff that has never happened

Alot of cyclists have 3rd party insurance through membership of their state cycling body. Not compulsory, but the option is there.

I do also appreciate the arguments against the Lance Armstrong wannabes, arguments can also be made for the Schumacher wannabes of the world too, that doesn't make all drivers evil.

Exactally what happened to a friend of mine, cyclist pulling up at a red light lost thier balance and hit the side of her SS, Major damage to 2 panels, Door and front panel anyway with marks on bonet. Guess what, no (cyclist) insuro, she luckily caught up with the cyclist at the next couple of traffic lights and fronted him. It's being persued now by the insurance company.
