No one is saying delist him. Just that he is massively overrated. Like Johnny Depp.
Sounds more like he is underrated is you're saying he is overrated, given his performances which are outstanding both this year and over his career.

77% efficiency with such a high contested ball ratio is particularly amazing, especially since Rioli plays in the forward third of the ground. I don't think there are many football fans who appreciate this stat combination, too fixated on kicks, marks and handballs.

I can honestly say that Hodge, Mitchell, Roughead, Burgoyne, Breust, Birchall, Gibson, Lake, Lewis, Gunston and Hale are all significantly more valuable players than Rioli.
You've got to be joking. Those guys are good but in terms of their value to the side almost none of them compare to Rioli. He's won us about three games this year. Out of the guys you listed I'd say Mitchell and probably Hodge add more to the side in terms of raw value, Gibson's absence is felt more because we lack those defenders, and Gunston has the potential to be more valuable but hasn't reached it yet. Other than that they're all replaceable.

You can't replace the ability to snag goals out of nothing, take high marks, chase down any player and tackle guys like Dustin Martin to the ground. You watch Cyril play and his presence alone stops the run of the opposition because they know he's the hardest player in the comp to take on. Hawthorn win without him because we're a good team, but we're a much better side with him in it.

The best contested players average nearly as many contested possessions per game as Rioli-Depp averages in total disposals

That has nothing to do with what I said, which was the combination of high contested ratios and elite ball use in the forward third of the ground. That combination is elite, is not singular in the competiton.

There's a bunch of guys averaging more contested touches than Rioli this year who are going at around 77% or better. Plus Rioli doesn't spend ALL his time in forward 50 and therefore isn't getting ALL his contested ball in the forward 50.

Irrelevant, was discussing the combination of contested possession ratios. These are what determines how much of a player's total possession count are contested, and what ultimately can affect disposal effective percentages.

Plus Rioli doesn't spend ALL his time in forward 50 .
Big deal, he's a forward third player about 90% of the time. Stop grasping at straws.

Yeah but if you have 10 possessions and 5 are contested it sounds good to say you had 50% contested possession but the reality is still that you had 5 contested possessions. There's multiple guys who get far more contested ball than Rioli and do it with the same/better efficiency.

He spends 90% of his time in the forward 50? You must be thinking of Milne. He retired.
