Just read that he has lead the Devils to their longest losing streak ever. Also, I heard that he is not the most popular bloke in Tassie football circles for off-field reasons, and from his press conferences, it seems he is unwilling to take any blame for the team whatsoever.

Personally, I am glad that we did not pick him up as a senior coach at the end of last year. Unless he can turn round the Devils form, I can't see him getting a senior coaching job in the near future.

We were at the cross roads, and we could've chosen to go left or right. I'm glad we chose the path we did...

yeah the local feedback is he's been a bit of an arrogant arse to kids and their parents who are just asking for a john Hancock, or even just saying hello.

has done nothing with a decent lineup (Koularitis and Thurley are in there of course) couldnt be trusted with the senior role at GFC.

Heard similar things when he was at brisbane for a year or two (i.e. he had off-field issues with some members of the club).

Just waiting for DBAHO to pump him up now as he constantly did last year :D

And his misses thought Geelong was too cold, off he goes to Tassie.....brrrrrrrrr.

But seriously we dodged a bullet there. Life is funny, this time last year I was a firm GROT advocate, now I want BT to sign on for another 3 years. Oh the irony. :D

Cresswell is egotistical and not a pleasant person to have to work for or with. As for Bomber - he enraged me last year and I would have had Cresswell or anyone else but he has won me over this year - because he has learned from his glaring mistakes and I respect that. He might even regain the popularity he enjoyed when he first arrived at Geelong after Hairdo's terrible reign.

Was never a fan of Cresswell - why would you want someone back who walked out of your club. But the Tassie problems are not just his fault. Apparently they train in 3 different locations, Hobart, Launceston etc so can't be easy. They want to join the SANFL instead of the VFL - the SANFL can have them as far as I'm concerned.

I always admired Scarlo for his comments, they may not have come out the right way, but all he was doing was sticking up for his coach.

he was still a better midfield assistant then andy lovell.

Going on everything thats written in here he's definately not senior coaching material.

I remember the general gist of what Scarlett said, but has anybody got a link to the exact quotes of what he said?

Has to be an attitude problem, which has obviously rubbed players the wrong way..

I can't think how we would have gone if we had lost Bomba..

I recall speaking to Steve Thompson last year when the review was happening and was adamant that I wanted Bomba to stay. You can't go through this much and not be able to see it through, not when you have the potential to be so successful.

Can you imagine how bad things would be if we had gone down an alternative path... :(

And Norths involvment with the Devils apparently didn't help.

Huh??

The NTFL stays as far away from AFL Tasmania as possible, and with good reason with Scott Wade around, there is no involvement, unless that's what you were getting at.

We have Plapp coaching a few in the North West at Ulverstone one night a week usually I think for selection.

Creswell is an arse though apparently. Doesnt communicate at all with players. Players out drinking all the time, no punishment, no reporting. Very strange. The Devils are a shambles but I THINK, well I know the NTFL is pretty healthy as a league, except East DEvonport but they're financially fine, and I think the SFL travels alright.

Just got completely off track there, rambling on. :o

Anyway I think Creswell has 3 years left, three long years.

You made the right choice. :thumbsu:

I think the previous poster was referring to the Kangaroos allignment rather than any input from N Tasmanian football. :thumbsu:

I can't believe that Darryn Cresswell is like that aw well Geelong are better off without him if he is like that :thumbsd:

Top Cats want Bomber to stay
07 September 2006 Herald-Sun
EXCLUSIVE Mike Sheahan

GEELONG'S leadership group has thrown its weight behind embattled coach Mark Thompson.

Matthew Scarlett, the club's full-back and best player, told the Herald Sun last night the overwhelming majority of players wanted Thompson to continue next year.

"He's the only man we want and we need him to coach next year," Scarlett said.

He warned he would quit the club if Thompson was dumped and replaced by Daryn Cresswell, who has been linked to the Cats since the announcement this week of his sudden departure from the Brisbane Lions.

"If Bomber got the arse and Daryn Cresswell came back, I'd be the first one to walk out," Scarlett said. "There's many others who would do the same thing, but I'm not prepared to name names."

Cresswell is a former assistant to Thompson at Geelong.

"We (the leadership group) are sick of all the stuff about not supporting Bomber. It's not true," Scarlett said.

The leadership group comprises Scarlett, Steven King, Cameron Ling, Tom Harley, Joel Corey, Paul Chapman and Cameron Mooney.

Scarlett said the players accepted responsibility for the embarrassing 61-point loss to Hawthorn at Telstra Dome on Sunday.

"It can't be a reflection on the coach," he said. "We played and we should cop the heat. We do need him and hopefully he's here next year."

Thompson's future is in the hands of chief executive Brian Cook, who is reviewing the club's operations for a comprehensive report and recommendation to the board.

Thompson is under contract for one more year, but his stocks were seen to dive on the back of Sunday's dismal effort.

The Cats have missed the final eight after finishing an unlucky fifth in 2005.

They finished 10th with 10 wins and a draw.
