I realize that asgardian wrote another thread on Jars before but without stealing his thunder i would like to pay my own tribute in a new thread from a victorian supporter.
Darren Jarman simply (with no disrespect to Andrew Mcleod) turned the tide of the 1997 and 1998 Grand Finals with his freakish goals, as a neutral supporter i was in awe of his will to win in the games which matter the most. With Jars at the helm and St.Kilda spent by half time in 1997 i had a feeling that the game would be broken in the 3rd quarter and I was right. Dunstall was right, Jars was one of the greats of all time, yet due to his laconic style to life i suspect that he could have become an even greater player, but that was Jars style. I don't know him personally but he seems to me to be a quiet, retiring type, preferring to let his brother Andrew live it up in the media. I doubt if he'll ever coach at any level (except at junior level) and he has a wife and 3 kids to take care off so i assume he will be looking foward to spending more time with them on the weekends. It was the right time for him to go (unlike Garry Hocking who really was a spent force 2 years ago)
I know that what i've written doesn't really serve the man justice but i just want to say
Jars thanks for the memories.
