D. Kellaway's jumper

Can someone please explain to me why the hell there was a huge jumper with number 3 on it draped across 50 tiers on the top level of the new stand at the G? Has he retired?? Did he get hit by a bus??? WTF? I can't understand this.

I believe the builders from Grocon put it up there.

Nothing to do with D. Kellaway IITB. Duncan was alive and well at yesterday's Coburg game

It was there in the Round 1 game as well but on the the top tier of the Olympic stand

Yes but why???? What's the reason? He's done sweet FA over the last 3 years.

It's an old style jumper with a sash and white number on the back so probably just for decoration.
If it signifies anything it might be the number of days a week or hours a day the construction crews work.

Can't see the point. They should put KB's number on the back so he's reminded about how much the club wants him to end his childish stance.

I've received an explanation about the significance of the #3 jumper.

Given Richmond FC has lost its home rooms as part of the redevelopment at
the MCG they asked the MCC for their assistance to help signal that it is
our home game. It is a small way to Tiger-ise the MCG and will be up for
our home games through 2004.

By way of background, the jumper itself was used in a recent AFL Grand
Final when the Flea was admitted to the AFL Hall of Fame, hence the number
3.

Doesn't matter what the club say - to me it's a constant reminder that we still have Duncan on our list when we could be having a kid. I hope Duncan appreciates the efforts of the club to keep him on the list in the hope he might eventually play another senior game.

Yep, good on Jakovich. He actually stated one of the reasons he was retiring was that so some up and coming kid could have a go. Full credit to him for thinking of the kids and the club.

I can't confirm the fact, but I've heard that DK was going to retire at the end of 2003 but didn't because the club asked him to stay on. Hardly selfish if true.
Rogers had a big preseason and was primed for a good year. I don't think he is getting injured on purpose. If his body is not holding up at the end of the year then your call for him to retire would be warranted.
If either retires now I don't think a rookie would be allowed to be promoted so we would just have a reduced playing list. They are both great servants of the club and should be afforded some support and respect in what is undoubtedly their final year.

Sorry fishy but im really frustrated with this. If this is true then the club needs a barrell. Why the hell would they ask him to go on when it's clearly obvious his body has given up? They can still have him at the club as an assistant if he's valued that much. To keep him on the list is an injustice and deprives a kid an opportunity. As for Roger??? Should have gone 2 years ago. Agreed both great servants to the club but playing days were over a long time ago. We're effectively down 2 men now as it is anyway.

Know where you're coming from. I'm probably looking through rose coloured glasses but I'm sure it's everything to do with list management, perhaps with a touch of loyalty and sentimentality thrown in. Every other team would also have players on their list that the same questions are asked about. I have little doubt that regulations and financial restraints are the reason many are still listed but I hope there is still some loyalty involved because some players are as important to a club off the field as on it.
I'll shoot an email off to the club about Duncan to see if there's any substance to what I heard.

If the club asked him to play on, they should be shot for keeping this guy on our list. He is injured all the time. He may get up to play a game ONE DAY, but probably will get injured YET AGAIN. Even if he manages to get into the seniors, what's his form going to be like.

I give up. Maybe Kel will get a game with a more professional club and i wish him luck.

He had a bad year with osteo last year i think - so maybe they thought that might hinder him this year. Consequently, i don't think he showed much in the 2s last year and they may have been justified in not putting him on the list.

All the same, is very frustrating watching not only Dunc, but Rogers getting injuries and not out on the field.

And you hear varied reports about how well he's gone - i got no idea, cos i haven't seen him.

Even if either of them retire now, I don't think we can elevate a rookie. We can only do so if we get a long term injury. If they retired, it would just be reducing our list (but not our TPP).

And unlike Jakovich, neither is keeping a young player out of the side at the moment because neither is in the side. (Although Kellaway did play for Coburg reserves on the weekend).

They will go at the end of this year. Maybe they should have gone last year, but they didn't and nothing can be done about that now.
