Rumour D Mac

Mackay has had 11 games with 25 or more touches. He's kicked 56 goals.

Atkins had had 16 games with 25+ touches but has kicked only 33 goals

Of course Mackay has played 3x as many games

Yes, but youre not taking into account his non statistical role in team, thats where he smashes everyone. :drunk:

:p

You are a moron. All 3 you mentioned are having great years. DMac is the one you can afford to lose. Otten yes is only a top up. Great depth. Douglas is in you top 5 for the bnf. He is having a great year

The one “you” can’t afford??? If you were a crows fan you would have said “we”.

Just not having DMacs salary on our books would free us up to get McGovern once Sloane goes.
Otten, Cheney, DMac, Sloane, Lynch out. McGovern in.
Throw in an aggressive pursuit of Will Hayward ... i would put 2 mill over 4 years to him .
It may seem a little overs at the moment but he has genuine star ability and that contract will seem cheap within 12-18 months .

But seriously folks - I have no idea how credible this "rumour" is, but it's plausible. Looking at it objectively, and putting aside any love/hate/disdain for DMac:

He's 29. We have good yoof coming through. His place in the first 22 is not a certainty any more. Unless the club completely loses the plot, they're not going to give him a long term / high paid contract. (Yes, I know everyone thinks the club lost the plot 4 years ago, and they'll just do it again, but really, things have changed.) 2 years max.

On the other hand, he could be a valuable player for a Melbourne club that needs some experienced input from a decent player. (St Kilda etc) And such a club might well be willing to give him 3 years, and just a touch more $. Which is a win for him, so why wouldn't he be thinking about such a thing? And why wouldn't there be a club that's interested?

I think it's plausible. I just don't know if we'd get any great value out of a deal. (Yes, I know he's a UFA)

Tough crowd, he was fantastic that day and from what I recall was every bit as impressive as Sloane. In any case I'm not here to fly the flag for him. I think he's copped a bit more heat than he deserves at times but he's never been a world beater and certainly should have been in and out of the side a lot more over the years.

He has copped the exact amount of heat he has deserved because he has been below AFL level for all but 20-25 games of his career .
And in every big game or when things are not going our way he is completely impotent .

Not quite sure about all of this carry on about career best form for this season either . In the losses to Port and Essendon he was very bad and didn't do much against the Pies either . He has gone off inured twice and missed 2 games . We did not miss him when we beat the Swans .

So in 7 games i have him playing very well last week and good game against the Saints and a pretty good effort in another easy win vs the Suns .
He has provided nice enough run from the backline so i am not rubbishing him but has been in our best 6-7 once this season .

We will not miss him , especially when the big games come around .

He's GWS is he not...

Every ounce of this bloke screams troll. GWS supporters don't even exist ffs.
I will barrack and be a fan for GWS if they take Mackay off of our hands ... they can have he and our first rounder for Tim Taranto

I think he sees himself doing a Bernie Vince, wouldn’t you do a dash for cash if you were in the twilight of your career ? GWS or GC or Brisbane would pay top dollar for 3 years - finally he can afford that ivory back scratcher he is seeking.

Is it plausible that the club has suggested he explore free agency because he is not really in our plans going forward with the likes of Junior, Seed, Gooch improving, and of course the upcoming return of Smithers?

Doing a Bernie Vince? We pushed Bernie out the door when he wanted to stay.

Are free agency compensation picks cumulative or is each one treated separately?

e.g. If we lost Sloane, Mackay and Douglas, would we secure 3 x picks in various bands or would Mackay/Douglas bump up our one pick received for Sloane?

I was surprised when reading about past best and fairests that he has NEVER had a top 10 finish... I dont have the stats for all placings during his career, wonder where he has finished. Pretty damning when he has been a regular in the side for the last 10 years.

Your logic is so skewed. If he finished 11th every year of his career would that make him a poor and underperforming player?
