I think he's copped a bit more heat than he deserves at times but he's never been a world beater and certainly should have been in and out of the side a lot more over the years.

Throw in an aggressive pursuit of Will Hayward ... i would put 2 mill over 4 years to him .
It may seem a little overs at the moment but he has genuine star ability and that contract will seem cheap within 12-18 months .

Sure, but depends on how many big fish they can land. All I’m saying is there may well be room for a medium fish, and for a club with an inexperienced list he may offer some value.

He was young then though; he should've continued to develop. Usually we are blood incredible at developing players but not with David.

Sometimes everything aligns for a player and they produce an outstanding season when they otherwise shouldn't have. The best players can back it up and Mackay has resoundingly proven he cannot.

That’s how they tend to set everything up isn’t it - Free agency compensation, father/son, rules of the game, draft sanctions, performance enhancing drugs policy...

It suits them perfectly, because they can just make it up on the fly.

Sydney seemed pretty rapt for him to extend his contract until the end 2020 .

Then became training track champion. Leader of the pack in all preseason running activities. Pride self on preparation rather than onfield performance (club enables this culture by glorifying training track stars).

Limited attention paid to improving own skills. More focus on the influence they can have on the whole playing group as mentor and becoming a leader at meetings, at training.

Individual game decays.
