With all due respect to my old mate HBP, we didn't do a great deal of recruiting for the 2008 season at Hampton Rovers. We lost more than we gained. Oakleigh also went up to C with us and with minimal recruiting missed out on B Section by 2 points.
I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest any side coming up will do well in C Grade if they prepare themselves. A good coach and belief in your group can take you a long way.

Micky, HR, OC and Oakleigh were always going to progress with your D-Grade lists. Everyone thought the same with Rupo (and maybe Weribee?), they still are in the best position to prove me wrong.....but there's gonna be 2 good sides coming down from B, and 2 good sides who miss promotion. (I think the standard of C grade has improved). Successful may be finishing around 6-7?

Re: D1 2009

It appears the jump to "B" grade is tougher than "d" to "c" in spite of bulleen and OG's struggles this year. I doubt they are putting on a team as good as 2008. Injuries and overseas travel are the biggest hinderance to any teams quest for a premiership. Aquinas , Leos and SMD sound like they have had years like we did last year, it is very difficult. Our best side this year would be competititive in "C" Grade this year, we are between 6-12 goal better side than 2008.

Re: D1 2009

t payne the key position players vary from club to club...for example we played the roys a few weeks back, i played 2's and this bloke no. 7 (j. beech according to the record) would easily slot into our 1's down the spine and alot of other clubs ive seen this year...could play that kid....so i think its just different from club to club regardless of grade until you get to the better b grade sides and the a grade teams.....

How could you be playing D1 reserves when your entire posting history shows you play in C section, most likely for Melbourne High? Howzit?

I think all 4 teams vying for promotion would be very pleased to finish 6 or 7 in first year back up in c grade

Re: D1 2009

Not sure what the Ammos history is like with switching finals, but if Friars remain 2nd in the ressies and Fitzroy do not make the finals, would they switch the reserve finals around? Especially if you ended up with Rupo v Werribee in reserves it would be strange to have them miles away from the same game in the seniors

Had an email today from a friend mine and it said Tim Spears going to beauy next year as he was spotted in fitzroy st with his mates from old mentonians, but a few beauy boys walked past then later jumped in a cab with them to the casino for a few beverages and bit of cards.
This is a massive loss to the panthers as they have already lost few players to various clubs.

Heard from a mate of mine at Edithvale-Aspendale that Snips/bazza01 are going to sign up there together with the OMs reserves hack David "Babydoll" Bardoel for 2010. Apparently his massive rampant ego will come across too as an additional bonus.

I understand everyone involved on Big Footy have applauded the move as hopefully it will mean we no longer have to read about his stupid in-jokes and self-absorbed rubbish.

Harsh, but fair.

I hear its going be a sad day at panther land tomorow as there have been a few retirements and departures announced during the week as bazza was sneaking round the inner sanctum
the departures are:David Bardoel(beauy or powerhouse and permantley retired)
Tim Spears (beauy or singing career album due next year)

All the best

Unless my calculator is mistaken, the scores just through on the SMS mean Aquinas and South Melbourne have stayed up by thumping ESL and Prahran respectively. Ducks and drakes at BSO and Friar Park today with all four sides focused more on getting through unscathed than getting any psychological advantage. Still the top 2 both won on the road and fully deserve the double chance.

It was a little bit more willing than i hoped Frase, possibly not a bad thing. We come out unscathed and given a good week on the track will go in the game pretty happy with the selection dilemmas that face the coaches. Didn't see you today, you didn't play your 2's missed yourself and Mappa. We had a better two's side in today and will be even better next week.

Yeah sorry I dashed off to 'forward scout' after trying to help out assisting the coach from the sidelines. Mappa's calf injury in rd 16 was followed by my hammy last week. Neither of us were any chance to play next week even if we had won today. Good luck to Rupo for finals. Hopefully we can face off again in 3 weeks time.

terrific effort from the sth lads, who lookd down and out a long way out from Rd 18.

i would imagine its as good as winning a GF ?

D1 again in 2010, great efforts boys.:thumbsu:

Eddie I can't see the friendly folk at the VAFA changing games around to allow ressies and seniors to play at the same venue. Mostly because if they did swap the games, the extra day break would be given to the 3rd or 4th team rather than the loser of 1 v 2

Well done to the friars boys on a 5 point victory and look forward to pumping the gutless club at frair park latter in the year.

- Kruezer

there was definetly some pumping going on in that game kruezer :D

Phew! We dodged a bullet with SMD stamped on it through some serious hard work and commitment so I must say a big well done to our boys. I'm sure our players are now fully aware of the level of intensity we need to show all year to avoid this situation again.

As good as is felt on Saturday night it wasn't like winning a flag, when the relief of staying in the grade passes all at the club will look at another 7th position finish with only 5 wins and agree we need to LIFT!

Good luck to those still playing, commiserations to Prahran and ESL. Enjoy the off season lads!

For the record, Rupertswood vs Fitzroy GF with the woodsman to salute.

Good work by the Tiges.

Fair effort by Aquinas and SMD to escape.

I didnt see that coming!

Finals Series looks to be a cracker with any of the 4 on thier day good enough to win it.

word im hearing is that the ressies game / ground switch has happened,

rupo / friars would be happy having their twos play before them i would imagine.:thumbsu:

How are werribee tracking...

If they are promoted this year, to C grade, can any1 see them being competetive?

Just want to set the record straight after reading a few posts suggesting that the OMs have been stacking their 2s leading up to finals.

The absolute opposite has been happening. With many injuries in the 1s side, the 2s have lost several players due to promotion. The thing that most will find very interesting, on the weekend during the must win 2s game against NOBS, one of the best players for the 2s was told to sit out the second half by senior coaching staff, as a 1s player pulled out late. It did annoy quite a few players in the 2s, but the OMs managed to come away with a good win and a finals berth.

So for the record - OMs have never stacked the 2s this year.

fantastic win by the om ressies who beat a respectable opponent in rupertswood. can someone tell me why tony bournon isnt playin a grade?

As I understand it, they have erected these signs at all a-grade grounds :D

Panda - can you give me some feed back on werribee....

I live in the area and know a few of the boys down at the club but you dont here much about the club around the traps....

With the team they have now, will it be competetive if promoted to c grade?
