would be a handy spine if thats the case
hosking
clement

brady/tonkin
J.barker
kewon/ M.barker

Average age of those highlighted = 33.5 years.

I seriously doubt if Clement or the Barkers will play any footy at all in 2009.

If they did, it would serve to stifle the development of many of the younger players on their list. Just another Old Haileybury - 'cept the D grade version thereof.

Won't go close to happening chaps.

Newly appointed assistant coach at Geelong, Nigel Lappin, has promised NOBSPC 6 games for the season - as he has become friendly with Brendan McCartney

may i ask where you got your info from? sounds like it will be an allstar lineup with clement barker and lappin if they all play
cheers

Does that mean that Nigel will also play a few games for Werribee, because Macca was a teacher of mine at school. C'mon Robbo, seriously, you have got to come up with some more believable crap than that.

First of all, love your work as skipper Grum. Big fan. Though didn't you leave dirty Durban for lovely Cape Town? Or have you moved again?

Kudos on a reasonable guess on the ages. Actually 31.5, but point noted.

However I'd venture to suggest playing with those guys is helping the development of O'Halloran, Ford, Ronan, Adams, Poulter, Renton, Punton & co. You need a mix of young and old to be successful.

Much like how old hands such as McKenzie and Boucher compliment the youngsters in the side like Duminy and Steyn, wouldn't you say.

Any that you would rate as a massive loss? You dont like to lose players but just at the moment Rupo is tracking well, the training has been excellent and the vibe is very positive.

Not a negative comment. I'm just surprised that people who have been treated so well over many years can be so disloyal when everyone should be pitching in and making a positive contribution to turn things around after last year. It was very frustrating for a lot of loyal Rupo u19s to be pushed aside last year for a bunch of guys who didn't want to play senior footy and decided another year at under level suited their plans.

cameo king what's your opinion on the clement/lappin talks that seems to be happening over at NOBSPC - all crap?? surely?

Clement has been down to nobs training probably 3 times, but havent seen him since.
I have heard whispers about lappin, but i highly doubt it's true. Cameo King is far more in the know than myself.

Can anyone tell me what kind of supps they are paying at their clubs? Do you pay in one lump sum or by the game?

I noticed in the weekend Age Old Xavs is pestering Nathan Buckley to play claiming a contractual agreement. Seeing he's a Salesian College old boy maybe a couple of games for Rupo wouldn't go astray. How about it KB? I've heard you in action and I reckon you could talk him into it. Just promise him we won't bench him this time.

KB, how are the boys going at this stage of pre season compared to previous years ?

Have they ajusted to the new coaches style ?, have they had their prime movers on the park ? and big losses, any big gains ?

Dont give me dribble, what can we expect from the Ruppo boys in 09 ?

And any word on what the price for a blonde will be on game day ?

My market for 09

Friars - $3.60
Ruppo - $4.50
Nobs - $6.00
Om's- $8.00
Bees - $10.00
Reds - $13.50
Swans - $18.00
Aquinas - $25.00
Leo's - $31.00
Two Blues - $51.00

My assessment:
We are in a rebuilding phase, will put on alot of young guys this year i think
We will be awesome some weeks, average others.
The pre-season has been fantastic, the boys are very fit.
We do have injury concerns with some prime movers.
We will be on the small side as we have always been.
Barring injury we will be very quick. (Cannot afford too many injuries).
Would be aiming to make finals, then re-assess.
We have many players keen to prove themselves
The players are responding terrific to the new coach
We are ahead of last year at this time.
You may consider this dribble, i know the club has a great respect for D1 as last time we were there we we were beaten by ST LEOS who got relegated and beat them at home by the skin of our teeth after being 4 goals down early in the last quarter. We will respect all teams.

SMD have had a set back with Matthew Bellinghams clearence being refused. Hopefully this will get sorted out soon. Was a massive coup for us getting him and to potentially lose him before the season begins would be dissapointing.

What are clubs thoughts on refusing clearences?

The clearance rules are pretty clear Keals, if the player owes his old club any money for property or subs or is in possession of club property ie. a jumper then you can knock back a clearance request. We couldn't sign Villa, Burridge or Jewell last year until these types of issues were resolved. Matty's request should be sorted by the end of the week and he will play at SMD this year, unless Clarky can talk him into staying at the colts.

Well its been discussed to death on WRFL board and I think Mattys made his intentions nice and clear.
Great news for us, look forward to kicking it to him leading out from Full Forward. Could mean we can release Cheevo to play the everywhere role.

Been very quiet on here the last week. Has Rupo been closed for the week? Whats the latest from Prahran, they have been very quiet. As have Leos. Lets get thios board into action.

Not too much to report from Fitzroy save for us finally being able to train on a real ground twice a week and the numbers as training being healthy. As expected, the boys are coming out of the woodwork now, and the frustrations of late Jan/early Feb are but a distant memory.

Not many losses off the list from end of 2008, but they should be covered by the expected gains. Hopefully we'll have a bit more key position and midfield depth. Frankly, those who have done a full pre-season thus far are pretty keen to get into the practice match phase - in order to get that elusive 'footy fitness' under the belt.

Pity our nominated home ground still looks more like the Simpson Desert than a safe venue to play footy. I fear unless we get a fair bit of rain in the next 5 1/2 weeks it's doubtful we'll be hosting Prahran in rd 1 as fixtured (unless we can swing it over to Victoria Park).

Whilst we haven't had too much info floating back to Kingsmead this week about D1, it's probably a safe bet that the 'old boy' clubs will have a distinct advantage at the start of the season over their suburban rivals.

Should play into the hands of Rupo, Aquinas, ESL, Friars and OMs if they have all been able to use their superior school based resources to compensate for lack of ground access.

This would mean NOBSPC, Fitzroy, Prahran, Werribee and SMD may start slower in the first month.

If you have these teams lined up in your first few rounds, you can expect to get off to a flyer - a bit like those southpaws at the top of the Australian top order over h'yar.

Based on the above, look for OMs, Friars and Aquinas particularly to fire early - they'll have a distinct advantage over their opponents re: preparation.

Time for my hand surgery chaps. :D

Getting rid of the social cricket, soccer, frisbee and gaelic football groups that seem to have free run of the ground whenever they want would be helpful too !!

Werribee have 3/4 use of their ground. Just the centre wicket that will be used for cricket finals this weekend and possible next weekend. Otherwise lush as always at this time of year and will be in fine form for round 1.

NOBSPC have been training on the Alec Gillon Oval for the past month and a half - although probably not quite up to playing conditions is not too far off with more than a month until hosting Old Mentone.

Look out for Fish L'Hullier who has left the successful club of StBMT and signed on with OM's along side Kinsella and Hecker. Does this mean his older sibling Ryan will be pulling on the boots? Lets hope not but you never know.

The Fish has been guarantened a seniors birth each game hence why he has signed on with them. Classy young onballer who knows how to kick goals.

SMD have had full use of Oval 11 (Lindsay Hassett) until the forced relocation we have every year because of the GP. We're off to AT Aaneson Oval at Murphy's Reserve in Port Melbourne while the cars go around so no major disruption for us. Oval 11 is in good knick now, we'll have to wait and see how the GP corp hand it back.

If anyone wants to buy some cheap 4 day general admission passes to the GP please PM me and we can talk turkey...
