A new sane Monash voice for 2010 as Les Argen has always been a dodgy character. Did anyone play praccy games over easter and who have you got in the final praccy match? Monash had the week off after good hit outs previously with Friars & Peninsula. We are playing South Melb districts on the 10th..

Welcome aboard Trev, hope you have plenty to offer. Bit concerned that you purport to be both sane and a Monash supporter - surely not possible to be both!!!

Looking forward to the season, my sources tell me Powelly has a few surprises ready to roll out. If we can get some support for the excellent young blokes we have then we might be OK.

Hard to know who the teams to beat are going to be - maybe Werribee, maybe OMs and don't forget BT touched us up twice last year!

Business End of the pre-season and I guess we are all wondering what our respective teams fortunes are for 2010. Well at least we will have decent venues to play at thanks to the rain. May be interesting though that the weather men are predicting a wet winter, that'd be different and may just catch some teams out.

Hard to guess ladder placings but I will try and update my earlier predictions, with absolutely no knowledge except for tidbits here and there!

Werribee
Monash
Aquinas - Has any club ever recruited as many+quality??
Friars
NOBS
Peninsula
BT
Willy
OM
SMD

Sorry to bottom 6 but someone had to go there!

If they remain fit Aquinas would have to be red hot favourites. Cultrera, Krakouer, Toovey alone would suggest that, let alone other strong recruits.

40 of those players would be U18/19s,other 15 senior players of varying quality, with the 3 you mentioned the standouts.

Come off it #34 you guys are on the biggest roll of all time getting players back from the EFL!! Don't hide the Bloods light under a bushell, there must be enormous expectation for the year ahead!

Anyway it may all be in vein as the Tigers with their in's and not many outs MUST be read hot faves!

The mighty Friars will hold their own and be amongst the action this year!!!!!

Bloods beat Therry/Penola by 8 or 9 goals today, looking forward to getting into the real stuff next week against Monash.

Monash beat SMD but hard to get much of a line on it as SMD appeared to have only about 40 blokes for the 2 games, with several players playing ressies and then seniors and being stuffed at the end.

Trevor's Tips for Round 1

Firstly admit to having no idea so purely having fun guessing based on very limited information.

NOBs v SMD - Think home ground advantage will be quite significant in D1 this year given all the travel involved and expect NOBs to win this one. It seems they have a bigger list and more depth which might also help.

Aquinas v Monash - A very interesting match this one, but I am biased, so just hoping rather than tipping here!

Werribee v Bull/Temp - I will go for the home side here but will be interesting to see how fellow relegatees BT go.

Whitefriars v Peninsula - We played both these sides in praccy games and hard to separate them. Fair home ground advantage out at the Friars ground but I'm going for Peninsula (just) in what some may consider an upset

Old Mentone v Williamstown - no idea at all, so home side.

What do others think?

Jack, I see my man Dwayne Kelly was named 2nd best for Nth Ringwood in his first game back (behind ex-Saint Brett Moyle). Still think he's no loss?

We have a nominee for tool of the week, and its only Monday....

Yeah Ed that's a long bow - credit where credit is due Werribee are a good team and I can't see BT getting hear them, tough trip for first game coming back down!

HBP - Dwayne Kelly was always going to be a big loss all I said was that he had a stop start year last year and I don't think we saw the best of him, hopefully we may see him back at Friars in the futureas I believe he left under very amicable circumstances.

My Guesses this week

NOBS 50 points
Monash 22 points (may take a bit of time for the bloods to pull together but watch out when they do)
Werribee 38 points
Friars 20 points
OM's 8 points

It's great to have the footy back!!

agreed. Footy is back! fantastic

NOBS v SMD - 12 points

NOBS By 36
Aquinas By 22
Werribee by 42
Friars By 18
Willy By 13

Nobs by 8pts
Bloods by 1pt
Werribee will hit the ground running 60pts
Friars by 8 goals
Willy to upset Mentone 4 goals

Like NOBs by 8 majors
Werribee by 30pts but BT will win the return match at Ajani
Monash to topple Aquinas (may have to bring back Spider to fix up Cultrera like old times!!)
Friars by 8pts in the tight one
Toss the coin and go for OM by 25 pts

Good time to have a crack at how things will unfold for the year:
Real contenders: Bees, Ashes, Bloods
Maybes: Friars, BT
Doubtful but possible: OM, Peninsula, NOBs
Unlikely: SMD, Willy

Best of luck to all no matter who you follow. Make a special effort to look after the umpires this weekend as you enjoy the games. Love Les.

I think I agree with your initial statement Trev, you have no idea. Kick longer with the breeze.
