From the horses mouth when he came down to training a few nights back. Is a great clubman like you've said and has been down a fair bit during the pre season to have a chat to a few of the boys. Wasn't a great way to go out being the clubman that he was, but that's what the coaching staff decided. He had a long chat with them before the prelim and thats what was sorted out. Not that i agree with what was decided but when your not a coach, what can you do. Care to elaborate where your info is comin from?

haven't seen matty keogh down at the club thus far have we? has he had a run around in the clubbies yet?

First crack at posting so i hope it goes alright!

NOBS by 30 points, purely on home ground.
MONASH by 20 points. been a lot of talk about Aquinas but i think Monash will come through here. Would like to truly hedge my bets, sit on the fence and say i wouldnt be surprised if Aquinas win. Very early to say but this game could tell us a lot. Are Aquinas the real deal? will they take time to gel and but lose a few too many early before they do? Are Monash going to be a force and bounce straight back up? always hard with monash as they seem to change quite a bit each year depending on which randoms turn up or leave due to uni
WERRIBEE by 98 points. i think eddiesmith got the margin right but the team wrong!
FRIARS by 50 points. think they'll go alright this year and they play their ground well.
WILLIAMSTOWN by 30 points. very biased. OM are meant to be pretty good on their home turf and we'll get a good chance to see where we're at and if we can make the grade - cant wait!

early season predictions:

flag: Williamstown (although i think that werribee and surprise packet aquinas will be up there)

league b&f: Snow (OM) or Cultrera (Aquinas), i believe snow has won it before so why not again, and cultrera could tear this grade apart if his ageing body holds up

leading goal kicker: uglidermie (in his heyday) but perhaps more realistically a werribee player if they can get their free flowing big scoring game going - although they like to share it round a bit. not sure of any other big gun forwards.....any going round?

Les, Cults was in his first years of senior footy when spider used to tag him, different player now, Cults would kick 10 on spider these days.

I'm sure he is a different and better player these days, still doubt he'd kick a bag on the Spiderman any day!!

Looking forward to Saturday, big night to launch the season for the Ashes down at the Nott last night with 120+ partaking of chicken parmas. Good young side picked, tough and hard midfield though.

Really disappointing that Parkdale forfeited the Under 19s in Round 1 = no game for our boys. Whats going on????

Playing HHF at Ajani tomorrow at 11.40 in the thirds..... or so the text message at 11am this morning said.... must be there to provide defensive pressure and extra on-ball rotations.....

Having spent the pre-season sharpening your elbows, "providing defensive pressure" could be about all your good for tomorrow Dean.:D

Terrible effort by Whitefriars today, failed to convert as usual in the 1st qtr and were smashed around in the 2nd, nearly stole it in the end going down by 2 points but really they should have won comfortably
Monash too good at Aquinas today, if they kicked straight it could of been by a lot more than 3 goals.

Trevor's Tips for Round 1

Firstly admit to having no idea so purely having fun guessing based on very limited information.

NOBs v SMD - Think home ground advantage will be quite significant in D1 this year given all the travel involved and expect NOBs to win this one. It seems they have a bigger list and more depth which might also help.

Aquinas v Monash - A very interesting match this one, but I am biased, so just hoping rather than tipping here!

Werribee v Bull/Temp - I will go for the home side here but will be interesting to see how fellow relegatees BT go.

Whitefriars v Peninsula - We played both these sides in praccy games and hard to separate them. Fair home ground advantage out at the Friars ground but I'm going for Peninsula (just) in what some may consider an upset

Old Mentone v Williamstown - no idea at all, so home side.

What do others think?

Outstanding tipping Trevor, looks like you're on the ball in 2010.

Good day for Monash out at Ringwood (couldn't be there as I got my hair cut in the morning and met with my biographer in the afternoon before meeting friends for dinner) with a big Ressies win and a solid effort in the seniors. Long time since we had such a result in the twos - hopefully a good sign.

Bit surprised by the size of the wins of OMs and Werribee....

What can I say, Les? Beginner's luck - but I did tip a volcano to pop up in Iceland too so not a bad week.

Happy to see a Monash win but woeful kicking for goal meant the game was alive all day. Cultrera played out of the goal square all day and he will certainly be a handful in 2010. Every time he gets it he either kicks a goal or sets one up - luckily he didn't get it too often! Would tip 70+ goals if he plays that role all year.

Werribee, NOBS and OMs must be pretty happy with their efforts and I guess Bulleen Temp, SMD and Willy are licking their wounds.

What was news of note in the other matches?

Forgetting my other horror predictions, can you believe NOBS won by 68?

One lousy point!

Look out for the mighty cobbers!!

With the other tips, I wouldnt have brought this to anyones attention. Just should have sat in the corner and hoped no one noticed.

Good luck with your round 2 tips!!

I believed all the hype about Aquinas too...

Also started to believe the hype out of Aquinas. What happened? Had some good young kids there last year, + new EFL recruits was looking for a big start to the year. Were Monash too good or did all the new players not gel together?

Great start to the year for the tiges. BT put up a fight for the first 30-35mins but it all went down hill from there. Could have been a lot worse with 24 points and some easy shots missed from inside 25m. Anyone from BT care to let us know what happened?

certainly not my best work, only 3 out of 5!
boys were very disappointed with the game. we we're blown away in the second quarter. perhaps if we'd kicked straighter in the first we would have gained a bit of confidence and made a bit more of a game out of it. good to see where we need to be though if we want to make the grade. OM's look the goods, cant see them losing too many at home. got some big talls and classy smalls at their feet. although we nearly scored 100 points which would normally get you close to a win, we never really got going. expect us to bounce back next week though! as a side note, very surprised by the friars/penin result.

Round 1 and now you dont believe? and this is also taking a lot away from Monash who have 3 sides and still have players miss out1!! they were a well drilled side and yes kicking kept us in the game but we also had the opportunities late in the game to get within a kick!!

Pretty good standard of footy too!! If the standard in D1 is similar to last yr i would think Monash will be giving themselves a red hot crack at going straight back up to C grade, they are bl00dy quick through the midfield!!!

Monash have enough strong experienced players and good kids to be around the mark, but for me the team to watch is Werribee. BT beat Monash twice last year and for them to get smashed by the Bees tells old Lester that the team way out West are the pacesetters....

The amount of scoring shots they had compared to Aquinas (who are a 5 goal better side at home) is enough evidence for me to hop off the bandwagon!

This is no disrespect to Monash. This is about Aquinas spruiking thier recruits and announcing themselves on this forum & then falling flat on thier face. Im sure Monash can play, becasue if Aquinas have improved on last year, they should be a decent team.
