No Cultrera last week for Aquinas I noticed. Any time he plays and is fit they have a chance to sneak a win. Anyone know why he was out?...
Injured? Movie career...?

we all seem to be pumping him up like he is a god amongst men.....perhaps we should all get over him and start talking about other good players in the comp as well. think lee, florence etc might be getting a bit annoyed!

tips for this week:

tipping a clean sweep for all the home teams

btw, les who is gregory? never heard of him

Les

Benny Goodman has declared a special umpires appreciation weekend for Rd 5 so no doubt you can form your own guard of honour for the umps as they walk out and practise yelling 'good decision ump.' Christian Gregory - a blast from the past, last seen crowd surfing with Loin Groin - no doubt could have an impact in D1 if he had any interest and rumours of his demise are premature but no fairy tale return this weekend I believe.

How old would he be?...32-33? would have no impact whatsoever.
What ever happened to his partner in crime (can't remember his name), big fella who played CHF? Hollaway maybe?

So you're saying no one over the age of 31 can have an impact?

A couple of old blokes that used to wear 13 and 23 at BT would probably disagree, and have a premiership medal or two to prove it.

Dustin Fletcher has just taken offence to this, as has Richo.

completely different Boris...DT and DM are (were!!) absolute superstars of the Ammo's, both with 300 Senior Games to their names... Gregory was a good player in his day...when did he last play? hard to get back into it after a lay-off at that age.

I disagree, if Christian has had (as I understand it) 4 or 5 years off footy, then his body is less likely to be as well worn as most 31 years olds who have continued to play.

If anything, he could be refreshed. I also think he was good enough to be a B&F winner at Monash and pretty handy Rep player.

I disagree with the notion that ALL those playing in the VAFA over 31 are past it (though I concede I am probably a shining example of the theory that most of us are). :)

Short memories HBP......C. Gregory is and was always good enough to have an impact at this level. Could easily have been an A Grade star if things had been different. Check with AJAX to see if they rate the man.

Holloway was the big boy at CHF, very good player now in WA. Your memory good on this point!!

Even I might struggle to be a one man guard of honour! Might need your assistance. Just spreading the good word of umpy appreciation.

If CG is fit enough to crowd surf then he'd be OK to lurk in a pocket...great rumour, even better if a grain of truth attached.

Bigfooty ban implemented by Aquinas??

Haven't heard from Marcou or Bloods22 in a while!
Enjoying the banter directed at the bloods.Haven't had much to say because theres not much to talk about except excuses when your losing, all I'll say is the season is a long one.As for Cults he's back tomorrow so look out Friars.

Nice and wet outside too - could be some good old-fashioned head over the footy stuff tomorrow like they used to play when CG, the Aquinas Colt, and Scribe were boys many many years ago...hoping to see some new cult heroes emerge down at Mt Eliza tomorrow. Re guard of honour Les we could put you on one side and a large mirror on the other. While the umps pass through at least you would have something impressive to look at.

Pirates bit too good on the day for Monash. Less than a kick in it most of the day and Ashes had their chances but couldn't kick a winning score. Both defences well on top all day. Nice set up down there in Mt Eliza!
Also looking fwd to being at home next week after 3 roadtrips early.

All 5 home sides have a win and Werribee confirm that they look well and truly the side to beat with another big win. Bulleen Temp on a roll with 3 wins on the trot. Friars can get back on the wagon but no doubt there will be quiet coming out of Ringwood...

Good to see another player on the wrong side of 30 play a dominant game on the weekend. Number 5 (Teasa I think) for the Old Mentonians looked closer to 40 than 30 and still managed to snag 7 big ones.

Trevor's crystal ball

Trying to stir up some comment - this is how I see it at the half way mark!

At the half way mark

1 werribee(16 now, 36 then) pumping everyone - who will stop them?
2 peninsula(16, 32) good even side - hard to toss at home and play some other contenders at home in 1st half
3 monash(12, 24) hard to beat at home but may drop a few close ones away
4 bull/temp(12, 24) in good form and will depend on a few key away games

5 NOBs(8, 20) also need to pull a few away wins against likely ladder rivals - sure to be in mix
6 Friars(4, 16) don't think their form is as bad as ladder suggests and big home ground advantage. Will pick up
7 Old Ment(8, 12) seems harsh but jury still out and may surprise but waiting to see if they can mix it with the top sides
8 Willmstwn(4, 12) haven't shown much yet so based on that they will find it hard away and get a few at home
9 Aquinas(0, 4) surely will pinch a few but can't have them on current form
10 SMD(0, 0) something needs to change

Great win to the tigers on the weekend.......playing sensational football.

Hoping they can maintain it and not get ahead of themselves too much (as happened last year quite a bit.)

Keep it up tiges :thumbsu:

good work trev, although im not sure about a few things:

1 williamstown and friars have both won 1 game, yet your predicting 3 wins from 5 games for friars and only 2 wins for willy. especially surprising considering we play friars at home in two weeks.

2 OM have 2 wins already (so seemingly better form than friars and they beat us convincingly) yet that only warrants another 1 win from 5 starts according to you.

3 also, cant see werribee going through undefeated, im not going to suggest when or where they will come unstuck, but i think that a strong team (perhaps monash) with a home ground advantage might get over the line.

4 conversely, cant see SMD not winning a game through the first half, will surely win one at home, perhaps against aquinas in a couple of weeks.

seems to be a very even comp when werribee and SMD are taken out of the equation.

as a side note the relative abilities of teams might really not be known until the end of the season (yes i know this sounds blatantly obvious) and before hand might be pure guesswork as home ground advantage seems to be so big ie can we assume peninsula are better than monash based on last week or will monash smash peninsula on the return leg.....

mmm that worked well....
will try again in English in a minute...

Good to see your University education coming to the fore there Trev.

Whats with your sudden love for the Friars? Like men in black? You must be seeing something that everyone else is missing.....

Agree with the call that it is unlikely for both bottom and top to go through without a win (or a loss).....

Yes WILL I AM - I agree I have been harsh on OMs but they have only beaten you guys away (and you're not travelling well at this stage) and SMD (which is nearly like the bye at the moment.) They copped it from Peninsula and got done by NOBS reasonably easily who are teams in the mix for the four - hence I rate them lower half now. But openly admit I have no idea about them.

LESTER - What have Friars done wrong except lose close ones to Pen and Bt who are BOTH in the four, they smacked Aquinas by more than anyone else and got whacked by Werribee like everyone else. You could argue they are in finals type form - time will tell.
