Interesting comments. Glen eira won't be the worst running around. They had a handful of very good players. Their problem will be if they get injuries to their better players as they don't have much depth.

St Marys looked even and well drilled without being outstanding while Parade were disappointing on Saturday but still have a handful of players who can cause damage and maybe some players from the Northern league to come in.

Unless they have injuries and unavailability, South were missing a lot of their better players from last year on Saturday which could be a problem for them. No Chivers, Hampton, McNamara and there's one or two others as well.

But to state the bleeding obvious, it's very early and hard to get a guage on things for another round or two.

So for st marys to win by 100+ points and not be outstanding, does that mean they will only get better? or parade were just that bad?

St johns must of put on an absolute show to win by that much at south?

And have kew got better from last year? or Elsternwick got worse?

As for the relegation battle, i think its far too early to be trying to judge that, so much can happen between now and the end of the season.

St Marys may be an or the outstanding side in D2 this year but are not an outstanding side compared to other sides I've seen over the years if that makes more sense. They should get better as all teams should as they get more touch.

Parade were in the general play and were just hanging in there a bit before half time and St Marys got a couple of late ones from turnovers. Parade didn't look particularly fit wheras St Marys looked very even, fit and well drilled and a good side so it was no surprise that they went away.

According to the results St Johns were at doveton but it's still a good win either way.

Round 2 results will give a better lay of the land.

Fair enough, hopefully GE can prove you wrong this Saturday.

One team I do rate is Ivanhoes Reserves. They moved the ball very well and would have beaten any of the D1 reserve sides from 2013.

Seems to be a big gap between the best and the worst in the reserves here. Expecting some massive scores throughout the year.
 
Glen Eira over the Gryphons - 15 points
SMS to smash Elsternwick - 67 points
Ivanhoe in a close one over OP's - 10 points
St Johns at home over the Turtles in the game of the round as I believe these two will feature late in the year - 20 points
Kew too strong for South - 39 points

An interesting round of football, i was surprised to see parade get over ivanhoe, but even more surprised to see Eltham beat St Johns! it must have been a good game. Eltham must of improved on last year to have won that?

Well done to your boys on the weekend rosejam. Ran over the top of us in the last when it was goal for goal in the first three Q's. Hope your injured players have pulled up ok.

A few of your tips are unexpected. You really dont rate Ivanhoe do you?

Thanks mate.

They should be good.

My tip against Ivanhoe is more a nod to the two opponents Elsternwick has had so far, having said that if they lose this one I'll really be battling to tip Elsternwick for the rest of the year.

I tipped against us because it was a 50-50 and I was trying to remove my bias. Truthfully I expect us to win.

MATCH OF THE ROUND - Eltham over SMS by 4 goals (eltham more settled side and very good at home, SMS still working out there best team with lots of youngsters and players returning)

TIPS:
eltham v sms - im tipping a draw, eltham has improved on last year, sms had them all 3 times last year, but i just cant split them at this stage.

elsternwick v ivanhoe - ivanhoe by 2 goals

south v monash - south by 6 goals

parade v glen eira - parade by 8 goals

st johns v kew - im going to go with st johns by a goal, they will try to intimidate the smaller side. great test for kew to see just how good they will be in D2.

should be a great round of footy, good luck to all.

Yeah it is.

Eltham a 5-10 goal better side at home.

Does look like the top 4 are pretty even though.
