D2 2015

That might explain why their reserves were so good in the first few weeks. Senior players playing both games? Would also explain the upset of OP.

Gary March under the pump, he knows how to pick his teams to be involved with!
One more forfeit and the club is suspended for the year and banished to Club 18 next year.

Whilst I understand that may be the 'rules', I would be hopeful of serious consultation, understanding and support for SMD before any action was officially taken. They have a strong junior program in action I am lead to believe, the ONLY lifeblood for District clubs, and hopefully the club is not forced into a situation that could prove to be MORE damaging in the long term.

Not sure what the answer is without an insight into the clubs situation, but could we consider a presence in the seniors with the reserves to have a bye round in D2?

That said, we had 16 players for our Reserves game in D2 last year against the Joc's away - so things can turn around pretty quickly. I hope it was only the one week and that they can stay in D2 for season 2015.

Chump.

They have good juniors, but they now from private schools, not like the old days from South Tec and St Joey's and they were tough.

In some respects that is true however a good number of South juniors go to CBC or St Michaels who don’t have an old boys club. Right or wrong perhaps the reality is that they don’t want to play at that level when they are surrounded by clubs that offer the opportunity to play a much higher standard.

Really hope they can survive but not sure what the answer is. Maybe a merge with Albert Park (or maybe even Powerhouse). Three clubs within spitting distance all battling away in the lower grades. One district club representing the surrounding suburbs might be the answer.

Suggesting a merger with the other district clubs on the lake is absolute crap. Souths are a very proud club with a long history. You want to wipe 100 years of history on the back of being short some players this season? It's great that Souths invest in a junior program where so many others have taken the easy route and going to a lower grade or comp. I am pretty sure Powerhouse and Albert Park would prefer to keep their clubs intact rather than merge.

Round 3 is very early to have a lack of players add to that 3 poor ones by the seniors!! Does seem to follow a certain people around just ask another club who were in B when he landed there and are now in D2...... I real trouble

No hope of going to a pack of arseholes in Albert Park. South will survive as there are too many good people behind the scenes, they will maybe go down and then find their right level

Given the gap between the Top and Bottom around the lake - It maybe worth looking into?? Both PH and AP have struggled for many years and now SMD?

Having said that the same could be said for RC, OG and MHSOB both RC and OG seem to be on the improve and have actually started to take players from the stronger clubs around them like SKOB etc.

I don’t want to do anything, let alone wipe 100 years of history but if nothing is done it seems that the history will be wiped all on its own. They are one forfeit away from being consigned to clubbies next year and it is long way back from there, especially if you are surrounded by other clubs.

I'm simply making a suggestion. I don’t claim to know much about them other than knowing a few people along the journey who have been involved at SD. As someone involved with the Ammos for many years I naturally want to see them prosper and believe there is place for suburban club in that area but they are obviously in some strife. To be this short of players in April is a real worry. How are they going to manage come June and July once injuries and the impacts of a few floggings kick in?

So what’s your solution then? They have a had a junior club on there doorstep forever and if as you claim, they re investing in juniors then they are not getting much for their investment.

Not sure what you mean by other clubs taking the easy route and going to lower grades. I don’t think SFX really wanted to play in Club XVIII this year but an inability to guarantee a reserves team left them with no other option.

(Not 100% sure but thought Albert Park were a already a merged entity?)

Anyone liking the idea of the South and North league idea?

It must be hard for South Melbourne getting players when they travel to Eltham, Parade, Ivanhoe, St Marys ect.. All pretty far away.
You're kidding right? Ivanhoe is 20mins from South Melb. Try point cook to south mornington for size.

Geographical alignment was floated by the VAFA and overwhelmingly rejected by the clubs. Participating in competitive matches is seen as far more important than any inconvenience caused by travel.

How does VAFA calculate the 'scores' if a team forfeits?
They average the winning scores from that section (if it is a reserves game, they only look at the other reserves matches on that round in that division). Not the winning margin, the actual scores of the other winners. That average is given to the non-forfeiting team and obviously the forfeiting team get zero.
