Eltham v MHSOB - Wont believe it until it happens again, Eltham by plenty at home
Parade v Monash - Monash maybe be improving slowly but given the sting that Parade felt from last week expect them to win this
SMD v RC - It's at SM and there is some rain expected so it may bring the margin under 100 RC by plenty
Wick v StJohns - StJohns by 10 goals just be too good for the Wicks
Blues v Hoes - Blues are a different outfit at home, will get home by a few goals

Interesting round, the next two weeks will be make or break of the mid range side for the rest of the yea. I think the only thing that is sure is that SMD will finish bottom having said that they have played the three top sides so anything could sill happen

While i tend to agree NB plays their ground well, i wouldnt go against the Hoes yet, they seem to be clicking, however, its a great chance for NB to leave their mark and make a statement for people to take notice

Geographical alignment was floated by the VAFA and overwhelmingly rejected by the clubs. Participating in competitive matches is seen as far more important than any inconvenience caused by travel.

I have been in the VAFA for ages and NEVER had an issue - and we have traveled from Ivanhoe to Mt Eliza, Sunbury and Werribee in those years. That said, always thought that something could be worked out. Just not sure what

As a conversation starter:

Prem A
Prem B
Prem C
Normal relegation/promotion system - (may need some more thought if two sides from Prem C who get relegated are from the same side of town)

South 1
North 1
South 2
North 2
1 x team up to higher division North/South
1 x team down to lower division North/South

The two premiers in higher division North/South go up to Prem C as part of promotion and to play in higher grades you don't get separated byt geographical splits.

Maybe have similar system and have only Prem A and North/South divisions 1, 2 and 3? with alterations to the relegation/promotion system to get the right numbers in each division each year?

Chump.

Good plan however, results will complicate this division as it progresses.

ROUND 4.
ELTHAM v MHSOB. I don't anticipate any surprises here.

OLD PARADIANS v Monash Gryphons. Tough journey for the East Caulfield students.

Sth. Melbourne Districts v RICHMOND. Business as usual. The Bloods will be stinging from last week. Tough draw to date for the club on their home ground at last.
(Let's hope the Bloods reserves can turn up. The Snakes can relate to a ressies forfeit.)

Elsternwick vST JOHNS. The boys from Dandy are running well at the moment. This will be interesting.

Northern Blues v IVANHOE. The talk around the leafy boulevard is pretty chirpy at the moment. Match of the round.

4/5 last week 9/10 total.
This week -
Eltham over Ivanhoe in the match of the round.
Parade to make it 3 on the trot over MHSOB
Richmond to chalk up their first win for the year over the Gryphons
St Johns to compile Sth Melbourne's misery with a comfortable win
Northern Blues to open their account in a thriller over the Wicks
3/5 this week 12/15 total.
This week

Eltham over MHSOB
Parade to bounce back and beat Monash comfortably
Richmond too strong for Souths
St. John's travelling well and will be too good against Elsternwick
Ivanhoe the team to beat this year, can't see them dropping one against the blues in the match of the round

Some interesting games this weekend

Ones:
Eltham v MHSOB- the turtles to bounce back this week on the big open ground, but the Unicorns finding a little more recently so may be a bit closer than some may think. Turtles by 20 points.
Parade v Monash - home ground again to play a role and the Raiders to get the job done - 25 points.
Richmond v Souths - The Snakes to make it 2 form 2 and inflict some more pain on the Districts this week. - Snakes by 80+
St. John's v Elsternwick - the Jocs are a very good team and I believe the ones to beat. Think they will win well here and Thornton to kick a few against his old mob. Jocs by 40 points.
Ivanhoe v Northern blues - should be a cracking game and we are looking forward to the big challenge that NB on their ground holds. Looks like they comfortable in this level and have had a tough draw to start with. Hoes by a point.

Reserves:
Eltham v MHSOB- Unicorns in this one by 35 points.
Parade v Monash - Monash too good - 23 points.
Richmond v Souths - alot, if Souths can get a team together.
St. John's v Elsternwick - Jocs by 38 points.
Ivanhoe v Northern blues - a few injuries at the club to test the depth of our twos - Hoes by 2 points.

Good luck all, Chump.

P.S. Boundy has done a quad :)

Looks a reasonably predictable list of matches this round.

Elsternwick vs St Johns
Old Eltham
vs MHSOB
Old Paradians vs Monash Gryphons
South Melbourne vs Richmond
Northern Blues vs Ivanhoe

Oh, and any chance that the scribe in the Amateur Footballer can give us previews of the week's games in his column that appears on the very slow VAFA website rather than rehashing what we all know has happened from the previous week?

5/5 this week, much happier. 7/10 so far.

This week
Seniors
Elsternwick
vs Northern Blues- Elsty to bounce back
Ivanhoe vs Eltham- first big test for Eltham after two home games. Still tipping them
Richmond vs Monash
MHSOB vs Parade- Boundy too good
St Johns vs South- this could get ugly

Reserves
Elsternwick vs Northern Blues- Elsty lack depth
Ivanhoe vs Eltham- Hoes looking like a GF side in the twos
Richmond vs Monash
MHSOB
vs Parade- Good depth at the unicorns
St Johns vs South- this could get ugly

1/5 last week. 8/15 so far.

This week

Seniors
Elsternwick vs St Johns- For once it looks like the preseason hype around St Johns was true
Old Eltham vs MHSOB- Home ground
Old Paradians vs Monash Gryphons
South Melbourne vs Richmond- South seem to be in big trouble
Northern Blues vs Ivanhoe- Hoes flag fav for mine

Reserves
Elsternwick vs St Johns- Elsternwick twos no good
Old Eltham vs MHSOB- Not sure why, but MHSOB twos seem as strong as their ones
Old Paradians vs Monash Gryphons
South Melbourne vs Richmond- South seem to be in big trouble
Northern Blues vs Ivanhoe- Hoes flag fav for mine

Some interesting results from yesterday
St Johns proving they are premiership contenders
Parade seems to be consistently getting the job done, however, never do so comfortably
Richmond has developed some confidence after 3 good games, all which were winnable
And NB and Ivanhoe battled out what seemed to be a great game at NB's ground, i'm sure it would of been tense as Ivanhoe stormed home
Looks like the Blues could of blown them out with straight kicking though
Hopefully South Melbourne can string some wins together this year for the sake of the club

Hoes not good enough yesterday and full credit to Northern Blues who were the better side for more of the game. They play their home ground very well and in windy conditions many of their mosquito fleet got to the contested ground ball better than us. Out worked, out hunted and a bit cleaner with the ball for most of the day and looking at other results could get on a bit of a run over the coming weeks.

As for us, a few lessons from the senior game we can learn after our first look at their game style and encouraging signs in relation to our depth with the reserves continuing its strong form. Need to work hard this week on the track and get ready for another test on Saturday.

If they did call it off at 3/4 time it must have been a fair old punch on...... The return match at Doveton could get sold out on pay per view!

Chump
According to the comment below the VAFA website it was "called off in the 3rd quarter due to excessive melees".

Surely a team undefeated and on top of the ladder wouldn't engage in this sort of rubbish. Then again, they're from Doveton.

Suggesting a merger with the other district clubs on the lake is absolute crap. Souths are a very proud club with a long history. You want to wipe 100 years of history on the back of being short some players this season? It's great that Souths invest in a junior program where so many others have taken the easy route and going to a lower grade or comp. I am pretty sure Powerhouse and Albert Park would prefer to keep their clubs intact rather than merge.

The Club needs a call to arms from all past players, a little bit of advertising i.e.(footy show) involvement from the AFL and improve the public awareness of the history of the club. The Port Colts are struggling as well with very strong rumours that they could be leaving the WRFL and heading back to the Southern League. If that happens it won't be long before they will playing in the Ammos.

Souths fielded a reserves side this weekend. They've been undermanned for a few years so it will take a tremendous effort to right this ship.

All will become obvious in the fullness of time. ;)

Not very clever to do it at the Head Office of the VAFA. Terrible look for the code and the Ammos; after all this type of behaviour is expected at the 'other' competitions where alcohol is flowing from 11am. One expects steep contribution to the VAFA Executives end of season fact finding fund.

I had heard that two Elsternwick players were reported in the first half.

And yet nothing on the tribunal page of the vafa.

http://www.vafa.com.au/fixtures-results/tribunal/

interesting.
"Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see." All will become obvious in the fullness of time. The old adage, the player retaliating usually gets booked.;)

And yet in this case it seems no one got booked... Or are we managing the situation on the down low.
