Eltham were a bit disappointing at home. They also got smashed in the reserves. Eltham at Richmond should be a cracker next Saturday.
At this stage:
it seems st johns will finish on top with ivanhoe second- may swap during the year but St. Johns are looking real good
third is up for grabs between NB, Eltham and Parade
NB are winning against good teams (except st johns) and not smashing bad sides which is odd
Eltham look like they have potential to be up there but aren't consistent enough
Parade are seem good enough will being overly great

Thats who will fight for the top 4
Then RC, MHSOB are the next lot and seem good, but not consistently

Finalsperformer, I picked St. John's to win. I was surprised nobody else did as Eltham's four wins are against the four bottom teams.

On another note, being 2nd after Round 18 is just as good as top. Finals are played on neutral venues so no difference.

They've got the blues in round 9 (Eltham). Lose that and they are playing catch up.

First or second means nothing. U've created the same chance to get into a GF

Agree that technically you get the same chance, but surely the results of the two times you have met throughout the year give an indication of how each side is tracking against that opposition?

On another note - stoked we could get a strong win over OP's yesterday. We have struggled to get over the line against them in the last few years (think they have won the last 6 before Saturday) and so VERY happy to run away in the last 1/4 and score a good win away. #GoHoes

Or do the results give the side that's lost twice more info to work with and improve

What if the sides go 1 each?

Kew finished top after beating SMS twice last year and lost the first final. Were obviously good enough to win the flag.

depends how evenly matched the sides are, sometimes you can learn more from a loss than a win

It will come down to which team (out of the top three) is fit and peaking come finals time. Depth crucial as Chump pointed out, which is one of the many reasons why I like Ivanhoe.

Given the weakness of the bottom three teams, the top teams will be able to rest players as required to have them firing in September.

Eltham lose this week, I don't think they can make finals with Johns the following week they could find themselves 1-2 games out of final in 3 weeks time - HUGE game this week!!

You mean the Blues, away... either way, its a tough couple of games for them. Parade have 2 of the bottom three, so they should consolidate their spot in the 4. After round 9 I expect the top 4 will be a game clear of 5th.

Just to create some chat in this otherwise quiet forum.
Who are your tips to take the flag home on the last game of the year?
And who wins the league b n f? Thinking we are close to half way through the year, surely there are some standout performers and potential underdogs.

Ivanhoe v Blues in seniors.
MHSOB v Richmond/Ivanhoe in reserves.

No idea about best players.

I'm with you on those predictions.
Ivanhoe v Blues seniors
MHSOB v Richmond reserves for mine.
I'm struggling to pick one for the league medal also. The reason I wrote this post, would love to know everyone's tips and see who's playing good footy

5/5 last week 25/30 total. Bit easier to tip last week. This week :
Eltham over St. John's in the match of the round
The Blues too good for the gryphons, 10 goals
Richmond over Elsternwick by 6 goals
Ivanhoe in a tight one against Parade in the other match of the round
Souths desperate for a win but can't see it happening this week, the unicorns by 5 goals
4/5 last week 29/35 total. Missed out on us, we were poor and StJohns were very good. They don't have any stars but play as a team and are well drilled. All 22 contributed whereas we left it to too few.
This week I'm tipping us to bounce back against Richmond.
St. John's too strong for Monash
Parade comfortably at home against South
Ivanhoe too good for Elsternwick
Blues in a tight one over the Unicorns

Monash Gryphons v St Johns - Easy
Old Parade v Sth Melb Dist - As Above
Ivanhoe v Elsternwick - As aove
Richmond v Eltham - At Home just
MHSOB v Nthn Blues - Easy

Getting boring really St Jonhs win the lot vs IH maybe OP, NB or RC (if they can sort out the consistency issue), then the race for relegation between MG and EW.

Round 08.

Monash Gryphons vs St Johns.
Old Paradians vs South Melbourne.
Ivanhoe vs Elsternwick.
Richmond vs Old Eltham.
MHSOB vs Northern Blues.

Had a great day at Ivanhoe Park yesterday. Attended the life members luncheon and watched our thirds get up by a few points, The seconds by almost 200 points and the seniors by almost 100 points. Good atmosphere to enjoy with free pizza and live music after the game to top off the fun.

Round 6: Richmond led by 8 at 3/4 time and lost by 32
speaking of NB, surely they have to address their goal kicking, i guarantee it will end up costing them a finals spot or a final
they lost would should of been winnable game with very poor kicking, and by looking at the breakdown, they could've had the game done and dusted at 1/4 time
Maybe im not giving MHSOB enough credit for their pressure

Some interesting stuff coming from Dudley Street last weekend. Lots of hits to the back of the head and some hustling of a couple of slabs after the game. Real community spirit coming out of this match. The hub cap stealers up to their old tricks! Let's go to the video.
