4/5 last week 65/80 total. This week -
Cracking round of footy which will have a big effect on the final four.
Match of the round number one at Hoe Park. Think Ivanhoe will be too good. Have plenty to choose from by the sounds of it and will be looking to get their best 22 chosen for finals. St John's have a solid 22 but seem to taper away after that. Hoes by only a couple.
Match of the round number two at the Garvey. Think that Parade have the game plan to stop the Blues. The Raiders in a low scoring affair.
Last week was probably our best performance for the year. We really choked the Blues in defence and played some exciting football the other way. Need to bring that heat again this week and I'm tipping us to get the job done.
Snakes too strong and should seal the wicks fate in d3 next year.
Monash to have a win and cement their spot in D2 next year
4/5 last week (just for something different) 69/85 total. This week -
Match of the round up at the turtle dome. Pretty simple, we win we play finals. We've been playing some good footy the last few weeks but will take our best to beat the ladder leaders. We're confident we can get the job done and not have to rely on other results.
Should be a cracking game at KB Reserve between two evenly matched teams. Think if the Unicorns can stop Munro then they win. Not by much though.
St. John's easily over Elsternwick
Parade should bounce back and account for South Melbourne
Northern Blues too strong for Monash.

I'm with Arthur ...... Go Turtles.

Ok seriously
Hoe's by 7 points in a cracker - as said previously, never beaten the Turtles at their home ground that I can recall, they are in-form and a big ground. So, a great hit out for us before finals that we will want to win.
Snakes to finish off the year with a win over the unicorns - 18 points.
Raiders to win by 36 over SMD and keep fingers crossed
Blues over Monash by 21 points and to have fingers AND toes crossed.

My interest is in what should be an easy victory for the Joc's over Elsternwick. Last time these guys met the game was abandoned so real interest in this to see if they can complete a whole game this time around? Clearly no love lost between these two teams and the 'Thornton factor' keeps the tension at a premium. The Wicks were VERY open about their 'rivalry' when we chatted after the game when we played them and as such i would imagine a physical contest right to the end.

Good luck all - no injuries.

Cheers, Chump.

Final round and still plenty to play for at the top of the tree. Whoever misses the finals, and I think it will be the Northern Blues, will be very unlucky and rue one or two costly/unexpected losses. Good luck to those that make it to the finals and enjoy the summer to the rest.

Old Eltham vs Ivanhoe
Richmond vs MHSOB
South Melbourne vs Old Paradians
St Johns
vs Elsternwick
Northern Blues vs Monash Gryphons

Blues made it to finals. Job well done. Eltham will rue the loss to Elsternwick more though. "Dame Complacency" showed up on that fateful day all those rounds ago.
Who can stop Ivanhoe? No one, in my book. Congrasts to the minor premiers.

Ivanhoe definitely well deserving of the favourites title, been the side to beat all year. Eltham will be rueing that one loss against elsternwick and possible inaccurate kicking today. NB may consider themselves lucky also as they nearly didnt get the job done and are probably in the finals due to poor execution in front of goal, or because of some good ivanhoe pressure

Would agree Heslop - early on the turtles jumped out of the blocks and really should have been a few up at 1/4 time - must have hit the post on at least 4 occasions. We were a bit flat today and met a team that wanted it a lot more in the first half. Coach Harris reminded the guys at the main break that 3-4 back next week and we played some better running footy from then on. Still rate the turtles much better than fourth, but that's how it ended.

On behalf of the IAFC, thank you for the after match and kind words of encouragement for our club in the up and coming finals. We will give it our best crack.

To separate them from NB is tough for sure
it depends how you look at it, Eltham showed up NB twice throughout the year, giving them a case for being a more deserving finals team
however, NB has beaten all of the top 3 at least once while eltham didnt beat any of them through the year
Interesting to see who deserved it more depending on how you look at it

Any updates on the grounds the teams are playing on and their condition
You'd assume St.Bernards ground would be in good nick due to being a Prem A ground, not sure about Highgate, is that even a VAFA ground
Additionally, its interesting that Ivanhoe is the only club that had a team making both the ressies and senior finals

I'm tipping an Ivanhoe v Blues grand final, which would make 3 GFs in a row for the Blues. I expect Ivanhoe to win that game by 10 goals though, they've been the best club in the comp by a fair way this season.

Fingers crossed the RC reserves can sneak into their GF as well :)

Our Colts team played at St Bernards two weeks ago and the ground is in great nick apparently. It's a good size ground and the forecast is 15 and sunny for sunday, so should be perfect finals footy opportunity.

The other ground is/was the Richmond FC training facility out at Craigieburn. The ground is in excellent nick, BIG, but it can get very windy out there. Played a few finals there over the past few years.

what were our thoughts on team of the year, who was unlucky to miss or if we are brave enough, lucky to make it
who's our pick for the comp medal

Highgate is a tad better than most VAFA grounds. It's the home ground of the TAC Cup Calder Cannons and, whilst prone to the elements and a northerly wind is almost inevitable, the facilities and ground condition will be excellent.

I have been looking through the vafa website for the team of the year, can't find it anywhere. Someone care to help?
With the comp medal, I'm not exactly sure who, but I'm guessing someone that no one expects!

Well here we go ....D2 finals have arrived!

On Saturday we have the 'finals professionals' in NB taking on the OP's out at a big ground that will be in great condition. With some slight rain about, I think it supports OP's a little more, but not enough to pinch the win. I think that the Blues will win this one by a few goals and advance to the Preliminary the following week. NB by 19points

Sunday we head to the 'snakepit' and look forward to a tight and tough contest. Both times the teams have played this year have seen them without key players - even two weeks ago - and as such it will be a very interesting tussle with both at basically 'full strength' you would imagine. The Hoes would want to start a bit better than they have recently (first 10 minutes) as good sides will eventually put you away early if you start a little sluggishly. I think the Hoes will prevail in a tight game by 11 points.

Reserves:

Snakes V Turtles - snakes to win this one I think.
Hoes V MHSOB - alot of movement in and out of the twos in recent weeks for MHSOB, so will be interesting to see who plays - Hoes still to win by 1 point.

Good luck all, no injuries.

Elation and heartbreak weekend ahead of us and two great matchups.

Old Paradians vs Northern Blues OPS have had heartbreak at this stage in the past years but may just sneak past heir local rivals.
Ivanhoe vs St Johns The Hoes have been strong all season and can finally advance up a grade.
