Gifted - Yes we at Packer park are travelling ok at this stage. Having the benefit from having a reasonably stable pre season with the one venue and nights at the beach to break it up. We are looking forward to the practice matches in the next few weeks (grounds permitting). Picked up a couple and one or two have returned from self imposed exiles.
In regards to Salesian it would be disappointing for them to drop away as they did have a pretty good 2006 without really looking like being promoted. They have a new coach who is from Chelsea Heights and the mail I get is that he will be a playing coach (Key defender). So that maybe he will be able to cover the retirement of Bobetic.
I am expecting Werribee to be better as a team as most of the playing list is familar with Kirk and his methods. Not much really coming out of Doveton or Burwood. Aquinas have reported heaps of number according to their web site. It will be interesting to see how the Aquinas coach adapts to the more intense manning up this year compared to the start of last season.
Sloth Out.

RFS if they only loose bobotic n gain a key defender they may not still have a good year ? Have they lost any others ? I think aquinas will be the team to beat, great numbers on the track early, solid group of 19's..Werribee have a good bunch of youngsters so they too will be keen for a big year..Willi were close in a lot of games last year, if wheels plays and taylor and co stay injury free they may upset a few teams..The boys at packer park will be solid all year, is steve vamvakis training/playing this year ? Have a great w/e lads

Good to see you back online SB. Its about time we started talking about footy. It makes a nice change from all the banter from down Duncans Road. I believe that Salesian havealso lost Singh to Croydon and some others have moved on. But I am not 100% sure who. Also I saw in the clearances that Buckle has moved up to Qld. He will leave a big hole for the Animals. Finally in regards to Vamvakas he is in limbo at the moment. So we will have to see what he does. The ball is in his court what he wants to do.

A lot of good players like Buckle move upto qld, guess the grass would be greener, good lifestyle playing footy over theeree..How are the younger players at Packer Park progressing RFS ? Had some real athletic kids from a game i saw. Season starting on time or no word out yet ? :thumbsu:

Well made the trek down to Soldiers last night and i must admit the numbers on the track look promising for the Tigers. Skills were pretty sharp for this time of the year. A lot of encouragement at the end of each drill when they got called in by the coach and by the looks of things his assistants. Skills tapered off a bit towards the end of training but it look like a good mix of young athletic players with the older experienced players.

GB, SB, T7 and Champ, how does everyone get along with Kirk?

Kirk has a lot of respect at the club and around Werribee. I know what he is like from him being captain / coach of the cricket club. I have no doubt he will help the club immensley in its pursuit for on field and off field success.

GB - I saw on the WRFL Forum that you guys are playing Deer Park in Practice match. Are you playing this at Soliders or at Deer Park. What day is it scheduled for ?

Cheers, RFS

RFS - We play them on 24/3. We have definitely two practice matches and third one to be decided on who we are playing. All at Soldiers as it is probably in the best condition out of all the grounds going around.

Things have quietend down of late, any recent news ? Standout performers on the track ? Are most clubs getting to the end of there recrutiting with most players committing one way or another ? :thumbsu:

Well guys I can tell you all the bentleigh are one of the youngest teams and smallest teams i have ever seen. However most of there small blokes can play but boy the look young. However they do have a couple oldies down there in Dave Martin who makes a comeback at 38 after 4 years off (won 8 league best & fairests in his day) & Chris Sharp aka Sharpie!! Wait to see see this bloke, bald, toothless, 39 yrs old but kicked 130 goals in D3. Rumor has it he will play down back this eyar though, my sources tell me.

Paul Dimmitina might have a run with these guys again this year, he dominated in the games he played last year. They need experience as most of them look like they have just come up from 19's in the past couple years.

Needle has been a standout performer on the track down @ Tigerland.....

I have heard that Aquinas are flying. 40-50 blokes at training every night. Look like they will start as flag favorites. I would have willy, glen eira and south melbourne in the 4 also. I know at this time of year every team will think that they are finals contenders but from what i saw last year none of the other teams (unless some huge name recruits) will play finals this year. I know this will upset som people but its just my opinion. What are other peoples thoughts? Flag: Aquinas. B and F: Den Braber back to back. Goalkicking: Wheeler. Relegation: St Johns. Lets get some odds going!

I have heard there has been 40-50 blokes @ Willi and Tigerland every night and that training has been reasonably good. The flag is as open a race as a hookers legs!!!!

The top 4 will be somerthing similar to Aquanas, Willi, Werribee and Glen Eira.

Flag:Werribee
Goal Kicking:Wheeler
B & F: Reece Baker
Relegation:Who ever has the most injuries.

Is there an echo in here?...........Good work Ricky Bobby, general consenses is that Aquinas is starting the season favourites, personally haven't seen them play before but have only heard good things. Spoke to one of their assistant coaches who was quietly confident of a good year. We're drawn to play them in round 1 so that game should let us know if the districts will be around the mark this year.

Having won promotion from D3 last year it's all a bit hard to speculate on clubs I haven't seen play but from past seasons and going by memory I would expect Werribee to be strong and I can't remember SMD beating St Johns too often so I might have to put them out of the relegation zone untill proven otherwise. Bentleigh's chances hinge on getting a senior coach, they have a stack of talented kids as well as some top old codjers but without a coach? ? ?

I'll post my predicted ladder the week before round 1 untill then I look forward to hearing some banter between all the D2 clubs, all of which I'll be taking with a grain of salt.

Lets be serious here, the goal kicking would shorly go to the guy from Bentleigh, they call him shooter, chris sharp i think his name is... or is he not playing this season... also i think bentleigh do have a senior coach, was on their website, its their reserves/assitant coach from last year, adam laxton.

Sorry lfk haven't looked at Bentleigh's website, the VAFA site still has an ad up for a senior coach.
I agree, shooter will win the goal kicking without a doubt. The guy is a class act who always scores bags of goals but an earlier post claims he will play down back, if he does line up south of centre Bentleigh are gone! Well we can only hope;)

Yep, Adam Laxton is coach of the 1s this year. And yes, Shooter is playing, but I don't think he'll be put down back....pretty sure you'll see him up forward again...

Adam Laxton is coach & the mail is that Bentleigh have great numbers but will be fielding a mosquito squadron this year. Look for the forward line to include Dave 'The Freak' Martin (surely the greatest player ever to pull on a Bentleigh jumper) whi is super fit & even at 38 yrs of age could not be ruled out from winning a 9th competition B&F

surely reece baker would hav 2 b in werribee's team of the centry. Along with the likes of redman, looch, ringo(definatly would b captin) just 2 name a few. Did i mention that would b werribees team of *******s of the centry
