My tips:

Aquinas over Bentleigh - interesting to see who lines up on robertson. He will win the league best and fairest.

SMD to get the 4 pts @ Willy by 10 goals - I think the districts were fantastic last week and look they showed how good they can be, i think they will win pretty comfortably against willy who are missing a key player/good bloke in craig taylor.

Werribee to win but only by a goal or two - Salesian have improved a lot in the 2nd half of the year winning a couple with some younger players standing up.

Glen Eira - Glen Eira are on a roll and will win today at home against St John's, i don;t think they will be able to contain steve vamvakas up foward, and through the midfield they will be a little to good..interesting to see who lines up on Pattie (#1), if he kicks 5 or 6 the joc's could get home..But Glen Eira by 4-5 goals.

Finally, St Leos by 6 goals to get back into that early season form. :D:thumbsu:

Had a look at Aquinas V Bentleigh. Sharp and Robbo both went off (sharp early and Robbo late). Will both or either ruturn this year? Big loss if not.

Banyule's win over St Leo's makes 4th a very interesting battle. SL have GE and the Werribee; while Banyule have Aquinas and GE. Both have a tough couple of weeks ahead. Who will play finals? I think SL will scrape in.

Really big game at Packer Park, convincing win by GE. Best effort of the day was, believe it or not, by the man in white. Arrives at the ground laid low by the flu only to discover that he had to run the game solo. Had no detrimental effect on either team, and apprantly was still in his late teens. Really pleasing to see a very large number of St Johns personell enjoying the hospitality in the rooms post game after what must have been a very dissapointing result for them, but full credit to the GE boys for their great effort on the day. Watch out SL and Banyule:):):)

was wondering if any1 from Bentleigh knows how the bloke who went off on the stretcher in the ressies is?

Was near the incident and it didnt look good (was his own team mate who accidently got him in the head). Hopefully everything is alright and he makes a sppedy recovery!!

Not sure how he is yet....gonna call him later today...
The problem was that he was knocked out last week...so with it happening again he just had to go to hospital...
didn't sound good at all....hope he's ok too

Have to agree, the umpire did a fantastic job on his own. How things can change in a week, as I would love umpire Stubbs to have witnessed what a good umpire is.

He is still in the Alfred for more precautionary scans tomorrow but everything appears fine apart from some residual soreness in the neck. Looks like it might be curtains for his footy though as he has been knocked out at least 6 times in his brief career & the docs reckon thats enough.

Thanks again to the Aquinas training staff for their assistance until the Ambulance arrived.

Agree Gongy but you know what. St Johns are an ordinary club. No boundary umpire in the reserves but had 3 waterboys. Total disregard for VAFA rules by not wearing a different strip because of a jumper clash. I spoke to some of the GE players who said they had to wear an alternate strip at St Johns and when they played at Doveton not only did STJ not supply a boundary but failed to supply a field ump and then continuously had a go at the GE ump.

The evenness of the division is astounding as well, I asked our 1's coach Gez what he thought the main difference between D3 and D2 is and he commented that every team can beat you in D2 if you're slightly off where we had it a little easier last year in D3.

Where have all the Werribee blokes gone today? bit quiet around here without 'em
Harper, can you please explain the result in the 2's on the weekend?? I'm a little puzzled:confused:

werribees ground is a disgrace!!!!!!
- no grass
- the centre is concrete and has chunks missing
- the goalsquares are full of some black crap
- the goals at either end dont line up
- they have to have the centre bounces on the wing

they do play the ground very well though, definately the hardest road trip in the league!

how does the league allow games to be played on it??????

Have not been to the bees ground for a while Kella, but it was in great nic at the start of the year. Please tell me if i'm incorrect but I beleive they are the only team in our div, to have full use of a home ground from the start of pre season (if not then, then well before others). Maybe the council made the wrong call in giving it to them that early??

After a dry week last week, the turf wicket area gets pretty hard. Cant do much about that, you have either got a turf wicket, or a synthetic wicket (mound of soil/sand) on most grounds. Both hurt when you go down on them if its dry. We have been having centre bounces on the wing for most of the year at most away grounds.
Grass dies off and is dormant in the winter. Keeps the ground flat & dry.
Goals dont line up? Salesian kicked 13.3, cant be too bad???? Never noticed it myself.
Black stuff is ground up rubber to stop the goal squares turning into slop.

Good to see so many Salesian boys having a can after the game. :thumbsu:

OK thanks Javo, but early Feb is still alot earlier than most of the others. Bent still cant train on theirs properly, South always have trouble, Glen Eira couldn't get on until Round 7 or 8, Salesians and Willy had to move, St Johns were not sure if they had a ground.

All of these grounds will benefit in the long term.

can anyone confirm that Slappers from SMD had been sounded out about a lucrative coaching job in the southern suburbs ...would be bigger than Barassi going to Carlton from Melbourne if it comes off

played against werribee for 10 yrs now and the goals have always been like that and find it surprising that the ground is that bad it has been pretty good but has had a lot of footy played on it this year and with the goal squares a lot of grounds have that rubber stuff

Looks like car-pooling arrangements might have to change for the SMD boys for the rest of the year.

THE son of World Vision Australia chief Tim Costello pleaded guilty today to drink-driving.

Martin Costello, 21, blew 0.153 after trying to avoid a booze bus in South Melbourne on March 3 this year, Melbourne Magistrates Court was told.
Costello, the nephew of Treasurer Peter Costello, had only recently graduated to his full licence.
He did a U-turn to escape the booze bus because he panicked, the court was told.
Magistrate Belinda Wallington fined Costello $500 and cancelled his licence for 16 months.
She said the penalty was slightly greater than the minimum because Costello had been "sneaky".
Costello was supported in court by his mother and two friends.

Whats that got to do with footy? No need to bring off field things onto this forum. Or are you a saint and never been in any trouble. He may not be able to drive but he will still kick 6 every week.

Hahaha....you'd have to say that most of this forum is about off-field stuff....
what the pies are like at the canteen.....who's fat, who's fit....who got ******* on the weekend....

It's like a red head getting yelled at on the field.....got nothing to do with footy....but he sure as hell will cop it from the opposition when he plays.......as will Costello I'd imagine...

i have to agree with black mamba. Off field stuff is definitely valid in this forum.

Marty stuffed up and he has copped it on the chin. Like he did on the weekend. Williamstown should be thankful as well. He got knocked out with a few minutes to go in the first having kicked four genuinely earned goals from contested marks. wasnt seen again for the day.

one of the most damaging players running round in the comp.
