Judging by the clearances there seems to be a mass exodus out of Old Westbourne. Whats happening out at the Windy City

Guru Out!

I believe the standard of d2 will be ordinary this season. You have 4 sides who are going to struggle.

Sth Melb - have they got a coach
Aquinas - lost over 25 players
Old Westbourne - lost over 25 players including Connors, Johns, Hunter, etc
Eltham - still haven't had more than 20 at a training session.

It will be a raffle between these 4 clubs to see who gets relegated.

I believe South Melb have a new coach but i can not confirm the name any one from south on the forum if so lets us know how you club is traverling
also not sure if there were 25 player from each if the other clubs as there was not that many in the VAFA transfer list unless the the new clubs have not put in the transfer request as yet

It is true that Hunter, Johns and Connors have left the club. Critta Hudson is overseas this year as well, although he may be back mid year.

We have a lost a number of other players as well, as seen in the clearance list. We have also managed to pick up a few players over the off season, although their clearances have not been put in yet.

I'm not even gonna bother responding to sidewinders comment....

Interesting news from other camps. Especially Eltham - what is going on down there?

I see Etham are really trying to drum up support with a nice little plug on the RUsh hour last night with Billy and James Brayshaw plugging what a great club and fantastice facilities it has...................... Must be battling to still be pushing so hard only a couple of weeks out from praccy matches!

Crookes to be a big loss but might add a little bit of discipline to the side that he clearly lacked over past few seasons.

Crooksy was in the Leadership group for the last 4 seasons out of his 6 years at the Turtles and was one of the more respected and liked players in the group, he was sent off once last season for swearing...and that came from frustration. I would not call that a lack of discipline, would you? We wish him well at Lower Plenty and hope he may return too the Turtles one day soon.

I think the turtles plugging the club on the rush hour is a great idea, everything the plug said was true. The facilities are second too none in the whole armatures comp let alone d2.

AS for this season, yes they have lost some guns, but they still have a good core with your Galvin's/Richardson/Ogilvy/Foo's/Mizzis/Hargraves ( Andrew is in the best nick of his life from what I have been told ) etc

Time will tell I guess, I hope they get together a side that can compete in season 2011.

Thoughts?

think you need to check out some of the other divisions. Just quickly i can think of Old Trinity, OMs, Old Camberwell(with their new rooms)St bernards, Old Carey, Latrobe(though ground very large) who all have claims to better facilities.

As a previous player & coach of the Turtles, It's disappointing to see the numbers dropping and the loss of great blokes like Crooks & Dillon, but the 1's squad is still full of many quality players. From what I've heard the issue is that the depth is the problem & filling the 2 sides, not how competitive will the seniors be?, so the promo on TripleM was great for just that.

The overall facillities are a far lot better than anything else in that area including La Trobe & If you want a fun game of footy then I'd strongly recommend anyone to go play there. I don't know of any other grounds with a better surface, viewing area & a swimming pool that you can walk straight into after a game & warm down in?? So if you want a run, head down to Research asap.

Hopefully they can get some good numbers together for the 2's & have a successful season?

I tend to agree that the ground is one of the better ones going around and its great to play on a ground thats a decent size. Our home ground the postage stamp (SMS) is tiny like the majority of ovals in melb so good to get a bit of room to move.

A couple of large losses there for both Eltham and Westbourne.

You still having a run around somewhere these days Hollywood?

Coach have you been on la trobe uni ground of late the surface is spot on as is your ground
Div two is lucky to have two good size grounds with good surfaces to play on in the northen suburbs

yeah def who doesnt love getting changed in a b ball stadium toilet 500m and across a road away from the ground you play on . built brand new clubrooms without change rooms not too many building planners coming out of eltham college.

By the time you walk over the road at half time its time to walk back. You call this second to none. Also no seating around the ground. Do you have training lights at turtle land yet?

Good luck to dillion he's a gun but should have had a crack at a lot better standard than D1, he's a huge talent that could play A grade imo.

Crooks has also left, pretty sure that hornskull is crooks judging by his previous posts, interesting that... Good luck to him aswell he has gone to a strong club that should get the silverware this year in Div 2 NFL.

Pretty hard to replace these two but the club is strong and it will in the long run unify the club!!

Apart from the strong rumors that theres pretty much an open cheque book down at banyule under brockwell's reign! No matter what anyone on here says i believe that things down there are as shifty as you can get...

If you read some of my older posts you would know that I am not crooks you fool, I'm a mate of his and many down and just a supporter of the College!!! I know for a Fact not many if any of the Turtle boys are Members on this website. That would be evident, when you read previous threads and see the lack of info coming out of the college, when it comes too preseason and during the season.

Thanks

I agree with you Port man fc, that H.Dillon could be playing a higher level than D1 ammos. he is a talent that has not reached his potential yet and it would be a shame if he does not play a higher level of footy one day.

Are you playing this season Port man?

Last time I checked the club was promoting themselves to recruit players, and the training facilities as well as match day facilities are, yes, second to none! A pool for warm downs, rehab and cross training, indoor facilities for training, club rooms that are superb for viewing the match from and fresh air!!
The walk across the road is a great time to get yourselves primed for the game, the turtles have been doing it for years. Use the time to have a think about your game.
I have played at some pretty average grounds, and I believe that the change rooms, whilst still across the road are superior to many. Heck we even gave the opposition teams luke warm water, which is more than a few clubs offered.;)
Crooksy has flown the coop? Shame, but there is always someone to fill the void. Maybe he can still trek up the hill for a few past players functions when he has hung up the boots.

I have read some dumb things on big footy and thats up there. There is plenty of room around the back of the rooms for 2 change rooms but no it was designed for viewing behiend the massive glass window, Question do you get many blokes watching 3rd grade cricket from behiend there this season?
Seriously if the grades were done on facilites and grouds you wouldnt even be in premier division

Harden up pea heart! Seriously if a short walk to the ground makes your heart beat too fast then maybe lawn bowls is up your ally! Would you like an umbrella to carry around so you don't get wet on the field??
You question the playing surface (or grouds??)? Wow you must be used to an extrememly high standard of playing field then as many on here, and in other divisions would rate the playing surface as one of the best they have run out onto.
